BrownTown, Your not going to be able to say My Panny Frame Is Darker Than Your Frame if you own the Silver Z Series model, unless Pioneer comes in with a lighter color silver model.

Sorry to ask this stupid question but what is the benefits of the single sheet of glass?

+1, Has anyone seen the MSRP's on these snazzy hunks of glass?

The advantage to the single sheet is a reduction in ghosting at certain angles when the image reflects off of the back of the front sheet and back on to the front of the second sheet, there is also a very noticeable reduction in weight as well. However, on the PZ800/PZ850 you can still see a double image if you are off axis.

I am eagerly awaiting they prices on the S series, so far they seem like a great value, I just hope that the price matches that value. (I will be getting a 50 inch S series as soon as I can find one)

Thanks. I guess I don't care about that because I rarely watch TV off axis anyway. BTW, with a 5 and a 1.5 year old at home throwing toys around, I might as well add a third sheet of glass in front of the TV to protect it .

Is this just going to be through the contrast setting or will they have a "backlight" setting like lcds have to make it brighter?

Will "improved" brightness in the new Panny's mean we will see a better representation of a full white screen?

The only thing keeping me from buying a plasma display is the inability of any mfr's set (Panny, Pioneer, Sammy...)to successfully display a white screen without it being dimmed.

I went to a BB Magnolia yesterday to once again look at numerous displays. All the sets were displaying a Planet Earth Blu-ray...the Plasmas...particularly the Pioneer Elite looked incredible on a scene with light shimmering off waterfalls in a dark cave. Beautiful!

The scene then shifted to one of a hawk catching small birds in mid-air.
The bright sky background on that scene looked very poor compared to the higher end LCD's sitting nearby. On the LCD's you could make out blue sky and white clouds...on the plasmas (pioneer included) the sky took on a dullish gray appearance.

I'm hoping the new panny's "brightness" will help this.

Your thoughts?

The extra front glass shows ghost reflections when viewing from an angle.
The image is cleaning on my 5020 than on my Panasonic 657uy and on my brother's 50PZ85.

It is something I would like to see on my next 65 inch or greater panel.

It looks like it is silver on the bottom. I sure hope that is just the way the picture is taken. I hate any amount of silver (except maybe the logo).

The Euro's seem to like it though

Well, being a 'Euro' myself I can assure you that this is not the case: a lot of people I've spoken disliked the ugly silver bezel on the PZ800 series.

By the way: doesn't any of the new models feature something like last year's IFC function anymore? Or has this been 'renamed' to "Full-Time 1080 TV lines of motion resolution"?

Will Pioneer be the only Plasma to refresh at 72 or will Panasonic or Samsung join them?

My recommendation to anyone that views Blu-Ray is this--if you care enough to want Blu-Ray quality video and if you're willing to shell out thousands of dollars on a plasma set--

At least have the sense to buy one that refreshes at 72 and avoid flicker TV at 48!

Course if judder doesn't bother you then just watch SD all the time--it'll be OK with you, too!

If no one offers 72 refresh but Pioneer then make it to the Pioneer party where D-Nice and friends will be laughing!

Hey Chris...Confused here - the press releases give the "neopdp" distinction to what looks like most of the line. Are you saying the only "real" neopdp is the 54" v series?

Also can you comment on your impressions of black levels (with the comparison to the usual suspects) as well as brightness?

Well looks like from the CNET post mentioned a few posts earlier the 58 and 65 are not single pane.....

But 24 is perhaps fixed....

Okay, this is what I've learned so far from the press releases and numerous web sites:

All of Panasonic's 2009 plasma line-up -- Z series, V series, G series, and S series -- will incorporate the Neo PDP technology.

The only model NOT to incorporate Neo PDP tech is the 720p X series.

D-Nice or anybody that is knowledgeable in this section, are all the NEO PDPs using 5 lumens tech?

I just want a 58"- 60" plasma to replace my 6 yr old 51" Sony RPTV. Do you think the new V series will be better than getting a Pioneer 6020 quality wise? You can get a current 800u 58" panny for $2700 on Amazon. If these new ones will be at that price point Im down.

Also will the 58" V series look like the one in the V series pic or different?

I believe NeoPDP does not refer to the screen thickness but an overall overhaul of the technology (such as 5 lumen watt) that can allow thinner screens but not necessarily.

So, my interpretation is that all of the new lineup is NeoPDP, but only some of them are the super thin ones.

...With the exception of the 720p X1 series.

That is correct. NeoPDP and NeoLCD refer to the marketing concept, similar to Kuro and Pioneer.
