Sony 2009 HDTV Lineup

I didn't see it posted any where else, so here it is.

The 2009 Sony HDTV lineup. There are six new HDTV ranges, with the top being the new XBR9 series.

There is also an "Eco" Bravia series called the Sony VE5, which uses 40% less power.


Edit: This contains all the current new product lines announced at CES 2009. Sony will add more product lines later this year, including higher LED models.

I feel Sony will be punched in the face by Samsung in 2009....HARD. All the new Sony models, including the XBR9 won't even be LED backlit. Serious Sony? Serious? Vizio is coming out with a LED backlit LCD. VIZIO!

sony usually doesn't introduce the top of their regular line at ces. even introducing the xbr9 (successor to the xbr6) is unusual and will come out in spring, while the xbr6 came out sept-oct this model year.

the new xbr10's and xbr11's (?) will be introduced later.

No; they just can't - or won't - manufacture their RGB LED backlights cheap enough to compete against all the sets with white LEDs coming out in 2009.

The Sony brand name is only going to go so far when they try to sell 52" CCLF LCDs for more than their competition is selling their 55" LED LCDs for. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony fall into the #4 spot for sales in larger size LCDs this year, unless they happen to be keeping an ace up their sleeve.

I agree, it is strange not to see any LED backlit models. For all the other manufacturers LED seems to be the new tech to push.

Last year Sony had "Triluminos RGB LED" on their XBR8, and so did the Sony X4500.

I'm thinking we might see some more sets added by Sony today. Or they are aiming to produce cheaper sets, due to the bad market times.

please do not post information that is completely wrong and doesnt exist.Sony is not abandoning LED and there will be LED series which will be announced later in the year,thats why they arent present in CES 2009.Same as last year,they didnt announce the hi end sets in CES but later

The information in the original link is 100% correct. It's the full list that Sony has released in CES, and so far this year.

I also agree that you are correct, and we will see more models, the higher end LED etc later in the year.

Remember that Stringer's keynote is today, and at least the OLED developments will be held back until after that. I wouldn't be surprised if there was another "regular" TV announcement or two... of course I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't either. They do have that additional event later in the year after all. For them in terms of competition, it's really more a matter of when the other players actually bring the LED sets to market in relation to themselves than it is when the things get announced.

yes this info is correct,the incorrect info is this that states sony cant make LED tv's anymore

Interesting line up of the 2009 XBR9 models.

You would think they would introduce an XBR9 in the 55" but no? So far i can only tell one upgrade which is the BE3. Anything else they've improved on other than styling?

As others have said this line up seems kind of bland.

until the LED models will be announced later,the upgrades are BE3(important for colours,scaling,and overall PQ),and the internet connectivity mainly as well as 240Hz(because the 52XBR7 is like it never released actually in US)

It's not that Sony won't have LED sets this year, it's just that LED has become mainstream for all other manufacturers. Sony as usually missed that message, for them LED seems to be only premium. I bet their LED sets when announces later this year will be ridiculously priced

the LED backlight sets that are getting all the attention are edge LED. they are more comparable to, and replacements for, CCFL backlighting. they are not comparable or replacements for the tri-color RGGB cluster backlights of sony's xbr8, which have decided advantages over edge LEDs, (such as local dimming).

edgeLED backlighting have several advantages over conventional CCFL, such as quick and complete on/off cycling, lower power consumption, environmental advanges (no mercury), and sexy marketing advantages. but they are not a clusterLED direct competitor.

You're confusing things here. Edge or non-edge LEDs have nothing to do with RGB vs white LEDs. It really matters little whether the LEDs are RGB for local dimming, Samsung white LEDs on the 950 and last years 81 have local dimming. Slim reasoning to keep the overpriced XBR8, but I'm sure Sony will keep propping it up as they didn't release anything on CES to compete with the new LED models from other manufacturers

XBR8 is here only until the LED sets will be announced.What I dont understand is why you have the certain faith that sony hasnt got the message that LED is the mainstream because they didnt announce their LED models in CES.From what I read here the problem is that sony didnt announce their LED models in CES.So having seen the LED models from sony for this year,a little patience wont do bad.its some months anyway,till we see sony's led offerings too
