Given what STBs came out at CES I thought it was pretty bland.

can we use any standard universal remote? or do we have to use the supplied "mouse" remote gayness?

Do you guys suspect there will be any lag when stearming video content to your PC using the sling feature?

No. The Slingbox functionality doesn't use the DVR's CPU; it uses a different chip so there's no impact on DVR responsiveness.

What about tuners? Rumors have abounded that this box is being touted as a turnkey solution for cablecos that want to offer "TV Anywhere" (e.g. Sling functionality) capability without investing in the R&D themselves. Seems that would require a QAM tuner, or at least an optional module. It would be awesome if one of these could be purchased separately and connected to whatever provider you wanted. Any truth to it?

There is no truth to that regarding the ViP922.

Echostar offers a tru2way version of the 922 with very different internals. They are marketing it to cable companies as a tru2way product, but haven't had much success so far.

is there any new news on when this will be released?

I'm about to order new Dish service, but it looks like i'll have to go with the 722 ... the 922 still just says coming soon on the dish network website.

Very soon, maybe April 1. This is according to a Charlie Chat the other evening.

hmmm, now to convince my wife and kids to go without TV for a few more weeks after we move.

but even then, would I be guaranteed a 922 when I order?
If you are willing to pay more. They will probably charge $400 for the box (and you don't even own it).

yeah, I was trying to avoid that. I wonder if there's any chance that the 722s would get updated with that same 922 OS.
doubt it, the 922 will have slingbox inside, plus one of the remotes will have a touchpad like a laptop. Don't know if the old boxes will be able to handle all it is going to do.

Spoke with a tech last week. He said it should be available with in the 4 weeks. They will go for 200-400 bucks. He told me I would be on the low $200 end for an upgrade based on be a customer for so long.

The tech said he was one of the head tester of the unit and it will be "really cool". ha ha.

They are ready to go in the Dish LSC warehouses.

They have disabled the tv2 port on the back and will only ship with one 32.0 remote that is NOT a touch pad.

The second tuner that was disabled is now dedicated to the sling output. You can sling in HD on your home network and SD remotely. The 200 price point is correct. 600 for flex and DHA Too.

No chance in hell. However the 700u USB attachment for the 722k will have the same sling functionality as the 922. When it comes out and how much it is, well that's anyone's guess.

awesome, I am calling them NOW to see if I can order at midnight!! Stoked! Thanks a lot Hyabusha
post #80 of 159
I failed, the rep was able to see it in the system, but when she tried to order it the special accounts department said "call back during normal business hours"

We've been waiting a long time for this bad boy!
Just ordered mine. Will be here tomorrow!
Was the 700u or the multi-room extender released today as well? If so, I'm really curious how much they are?
At $400? No thanks.
looks like even for new customers it's $200.
Mine was $200, will be installed on Sunday! That is "leased price". If I want to own it outright then something crazy like $6XX.
I wouldn't call $600 for a DVR like the 922 "crazy."
I would actually get one if it would stream an mpeg feed to my WMC machine kinda like an HDHomerun for satellite.
I ordered it today, the technician should install in on Saturday and I'll post more info about it. Paid $200 but I was able to avoid the service fee by adding $6 to my monthly fee (which I plan to cancel immediately after the installation).

I know, but still cheaper than $90...
