Current speakers Klipsch Ref. 3 series center/rears and ref 3 II floor speakers (37hz low) and DIY subwoofer tuned very low but is 6.5 cu ft. Our new old farm house is SMALL and the sub is to big.
My budget is <$450 (WAF) shipped.
Room size is 1800 cu ft w/ two open doorways.
Needs to be small, approx 2 cu ft.
80% ht / 20 music
Playing level is not very loud unless the wife and kids leave. Kids room is right next door so being able to put in night mode would be great.
Will be placed in a corner behind a chair or the entertainment center

Unfortunately HSU and SVS subs do not fit within my size and money restraints

The two subwoofers I have found that fit are the Mirage Prestige S10 ($400) (1.9cu ft) and Klipsch RSW10-D ($450) (1.9 cu ft)
I am leaning towards the RSW10-d cuz I like the presets and the remote. I am lazy and have 3 kids under 5 years so convenience is high on my list also.

Any other sub suggestions and why would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you consider DIY infinite baffle? You might be able to scavenge the sub from the DIY and add a second?

i looked into that when i built the first sub. in the other house it would not work. It may work in this house. W/ an IB will you feel/sense/hear the bass thru out the house if i put it in the common attic above all the rooms?

My old house is lathe and plaster w/ 6" thick walls. The walls are dead compared to a new home but i still am concerned about waking the kids

80 views and only one suggestion for IB. I know these two subs have discussed alot but I could not find a discussion of an either/or between the two. I know it has not been long but i was hoping to order before the weekend so my wife does not have time to change her mind.......lol

I'm interested too. My budget is about 500 and I'm looking for a sub for my condo that is tight and accurate with a bit of low end to it, but I can't piss off my neighbors or play it loud after wife goes to bed so I also like the idea of night mode...

pne123-If you could squeeze out about $25 more, take a look at the eD A3-300. Shipped free via Fedex if you're in the lower 48 states. I'm not sure if it would fit your size requirements, but if it's too big they have other subs to look at that are smaller and less expensive. Good luck.

That eD is to big but the A3 - 250 Subwoofer might work.. 2.5cuft. which 25% bigger than i wanted. It would be a very tight fit.....so i guess i have 3 to choose from

rsw10-d w/ orange driver, mirage s10 and the A3 - 250. Great, I am goign the wrong way. lol

1 Oaudio 500w plate amplifier
21Hz F3 with 105db at 20hz without room gain...all for less than $500..with some sweat of course. LOL

I do not have the time to build one. kids and work....not for awhile anyway. The one i have now is great but it is way to big

This is the sub I'm thinking about getting too, it'll fit perfectly under my TV stand too, but everyone seems to prefer the 12" A2-300. I'd like to hear people's opinions on the a3-250 as it seems like it'd be a tight, clean 10" sub!

I couldn't help but notice that "gem" of a TV in a couple of the pics of your DIY sub in progress. You should put that in the living room where the whole family can enjoy it.

There is no way you can determine if any particular sub is going to be "tight and clean", simply because it has a 10 inch driver rather than a 12 inch driver.

These days, people who are really serious about sound quality have gravitated to sealed subs, rather than ported subs.

Of course, there are some great ported subs also, like the SVS PB-13 Ultra.

Without professional test results, and some objective listening, you are just going to get the opinion of people who already bought and paid for one of the ten inch models.

The only "professional" test of the A2-300 provided half-baked measurements.

"In my room, there were bass bumps at 80 Hz and 63 Hz, (+2, minus 3 db, compared to 100 Hz), while the bass response fell off gradually and smoothly below that, down to 31.5 Hz. The levels at 25 HZ and 20 HZ were noticeably lower, both to the meter and to my ears. It's my feeling that the A2-300 would offer more extension in a bigger room."

Not only did the sub not measure very well, but the tester thinks that a ported sub will go deeper in a bigger room. Sealed subs may go deeper in Smaller rooms, but ported subs do NOT go deeper in bigger rooms.

Thank you very much!!!!. That tv was the one i got w/ my commodore 64 in 6th grade. It did not make the move.....

back to the original post....i pulled the trigger on the rsw10-d. $449 delivered. If it does not impress i will return it. THere was only one left at that price and i did not want to miss it. The other subs were not discounted so i will not miss out on those prices if i change my mind. besides i wanted to get it ordered before my wife came to her senses...
