Hello,

Last week I purchased a SV472XVT from my local Sam's Club.
After it was calibrated I was blown away from the pq.
Can somebody tell me what is the current firmware version of the TV?

I was cleaning my kids fingerprints off my 551 and noticed the screen seemed loose. Can anyone confirm that this is a screen protector? It seems too loose to be the actual screen. My kids put a small scratch and if it is a protector, then I can probably buy a replacement.

It seems to happen more on certain stations. I especially get this effect on USA Network and the SyFy Channel.

Since yestarday I am getting a message that the batteries in my remote control are low. I called tech support and they guide me to clear the TV memory and perform hard reset. That didn't fix the problem so they are sending me a new remote. Does anybody else have the same problem.
What is the latest firmware version, mine is 1.31.05, is there a newer one?
The guys at the tech support couldn't give me an answer on that question.

well a tech came out changed the main board, no go, still the same effect.. but saw that the tv is made from lg components. the board even shows lg. hmmm lg firmware???

They sent a technician to fix my problem and they replaced two wires coming from the motherboard and the motherboard itself and I haven't had any other problems.

You can add backlight flicker to my list of problems with the 552. I have been really unhappy with the performance of this TV. The flicker started today and it does it on all inputs and no input. I'm calling Vizio Tuesday to talk to them about it. Still no firmware update on the ghosting. I can post a video of the flicker if someone wants to see it.

Received the 552 for my birthday and have been enjoying it. This morning however something strange happened.

My kid was watching a cartoon on OTA broadcast. Suddenly the picture freezes and all sound cuts out. A few seconds later the TV shuts down, then the VISIO logo on the bottom of the TV starts flashing from orange to white a few times. Finally, the the television simply turns itself back on.

Anyone else experience this? Did it just do a firmware upgrade and reboot possibly?

I believe that's what it did. That's the thing I dislike the most about the way Vizio is handling their FW updates. You have no option of if or when you want to install it.

I doubt it was an upgrade. Firmware updates have been downloaded in the background and applied next time you turn on the set.

I have seen this happen on weak OTA signals. I have also noticed that when scanning for new channels it will show no channels available, however if you unplug the power and restart the set and then do a full scan it will find all of the channels.

The Samsungs look promising, however, I think 3D is a gimmick. Tri-LED and dimming backlight is the best format for picture quality. However, apps are a hot button issue. They seem to be mutually exclusive to the most part. Hard drive support needs to be an important consideration, as we've amassed a ton of data over the years. If the TV makers think we are going to abandon it for Hulu or Netflix, no way.

What floats your boat?

I had the backlight flicker on my 551. Called Vizio - great help, if it took a while for them to get to the stage of replacing the tv. I had to upload photos etc, but no real hassle. They sent someone round to replace it. It was a refurb that I got as a replacement, with the newer smaller remote.

I have a 8 month old xvt472sv which is now showing some severe vertical banding. My first vizio ( a 47 lcd) had lots of clouding .........now this ,quite frankly I believe these tvs are cheap garbage and will never purchase or suggest that anyone buy one

472xvt and yes.7 months and so far so good. Also, for the price and the3 year warranty Costco includes, really no risk.

i'm looking to buy the 47" (xvt47xsv). I already have my xvt551sv and love it. I just need something that will fit in the bedroom. Costco does not seem to sell the 47" anymore. Is it just my costco?

Got my 552XVT in Jan 2010. Quickly noticed some vertical stains that were apparent under moving backgrounds. Tried to photo and send to Vizio but they claimed not to see it. Thankfully last week the bottom 25% of the backlight started flickering so I got a replacement. The refurb has no screen stain issues and I like it much better. It does have backlight bleed around the edges with a dark screen though and my old one didn't. This hasn't bothered me too much yet. Either way, probably the first and last Vizio TV for me. $2000 things shouldn't have so many problems. If my backlight gave out 3 monts later id be screwed.

I finally sent them a mp4 video file (of the world cup on cable on demand) with 3 7 second clips that show it fairly well. However Vizio support can't open mp4 files or access a youtube site where I can put them. So I just sent them an avi file which isn't as clear as the mp4 file. If they can't open that, I can send them a wmv file which is even less clear.

Can't figure out what to do to get a really clear shot of it as its faint against a still background.

I've even tried a suggestion from others on this forum of burning some white, red and gray backgrounds to a dvd and playing it on the screen, however its really faint against the white screen and almost impossible to get a shot of.

Any suggestions?

While difficult to demonstrate in a photo, I am certain (even had wife confirm it) that its the same 'stain' or 'smear' that has been identified by others in this forum. I just need to convince Vizio of it.

Wow, you just described the exact situation I was in. Exact stain, exact place on the TV, I was a VIP 552XVT buyer and Vizio also claimed not to see it after I complained. I eventually gave up until 9 months later the lower 25% of the backlight started flashing and I was able to finally get a replacement TV. I wish you luck. Nobody sees the damn spot until you point it out, Vizio wont admit to seeing it, and you will be staring at it everytime you watch the damn TV.

We made the switch to OTA only and I'm noticing with the built-in tuner on my 551 that I only have three aspect ratio choices when viewing HD content: Zoom 1, Zoom 2, and Stretch. Zoom 1 is the only tolerable option. Shouldn't I have a Full option as well? Is my picture getting cropped with Zoom 1? I don't think it is, but it's definitely odd.

I have the 551, and everything seems to be working fine except for one small issue. You know when you first turn the TV on, you hear a click, and the VISIO logo turns from amber to white and the TV turns on?

Sometimes I will turn mine on, hear the click, but the VISO logo stays amber, and then I hear another click, and the TV doesn't come on. I press the on button on the remote again, and the TV comes on just fine. This only happens occasionally, but I wonder why?

Here were my questions about similar happenings, and Vizio's reply ( in RED )for the "3" series. Think it they might apply to the "1" and "2" series as well.

"And our 553 is performing very well. But has restarted once by itself and did a lot of orange light blinking on the restart. Assume these restarts were due to the units rebooting due to an operation or system problem and they did what they were supposed to do, reboot?

The connected TV's update their firmware during this process.

Our 553's are not connected to the internet, so how could they "update their firmware"? Have OTA only. By the way, our firmware is: C1.2.14_RC1 Newer out of the box 553's have higher numbers as: C1.2.12._RC2


RESPONSE:
When the Vizio logo flashes between orange and white, it's simply scanning file systems and preparing to be powered on. ( basically the system polls itself to insure it has not crashed / gotten to a state where the user can do nothing. Ideally if the aforementioned were to occur, the system would power itself off, vizio logo would flash orange to white for up to 5 minutes, then power itself back on."

They refer to the above RESPONSE as the "watchdog" in the TV's op's system.

Your call to Vizio Tech Support could verify if one of the above or both is happening to your set.

Nodadeul - great to see I'm not crazy and at least someone else has had this problem. I completely agree with you on not buying another Vizio. $2k purchases shouldn't cause the frustration that this TV has caused. I gave up on trying to convince Vizio support of the issue after having sent them multiple videos and photos, its just too hard to get an image recorded of the stain/smear. At least it isn't bad enough that others would notice it except when I specifically point it out. I'm split on whether to be rooting for another problem to occur in the next few months to get an exchange, or just living with this.

By the way, I think I also have a 'backlight bleed' in top right corner of screen. Always noticed it but never bothered me enough to go through effort of a return over just that issue.

Definitely first and last Vizio I will ever buy which is unfortunate.
