oh dear i just read something i didnt know. i was about to order the xbox pro bundle at dell but as i was reading reviews one of them said you cannot use optical for audio and hdmi cable for video without some sort of adapter that costs $50?

is this true?

i plan to use hdmi for video and my receiver has only optical and coax for audio, no hdmi.

willt he elite work for my situation?

elite comes with dongle. i havent opened mines yet, been using hdmi only.

the hdmi and the video output are too close together for them to both be used at the same time. if you're willing to try this:

The Pro will work as well, but you have to pry the casing apart on the component video dongle. Simple process with plenty of guides by searching this forum or google.

i would actually like to do the arcade bundle by dell $170 plus the xbox.com 20G and 3 month live deal for $30. that would add up to a little over $200 total after taxes.
the games that come with the pro i would sell on ebay anyway, so thats just hassle.

question regarding the arcade bundle. To use hdmi video and optical audio, would i need to buy a HDMI digital AV cable which is not included in the arcade? or can i just hook up hdmi cable from back of arcade to tv, and optical from back of arcade to receiver?

that hdmi av cable would be an extra $40

any hdmi cable would work. a lot of people here and I recommend monoprice dawt com.
the "hack" i posted is really just removing the junk plastic around the components.
when you buy the arcade system you'll get the AV cable that has an optical audio jack and both component video (the 3 colored video cables) plus the standard audio video cables (the yellow one) along with the 2 red and white cables. they're all on that one cable assy. for you to get hdmi video out with the optical audio out you only need to remove the plastic housing surrounding the included cable. then use any hdmi cable you have.

I don't have one myself, but I thought I read that the Arcade does not ship with the optical output on the dongle. The Arcade only ships with the SD composite cable (yellow/red/white) instead of the component with optical.

^ i just double checked and you are correct. the arcade only comes with the yellow red and white connector and lacks the optical audio out.

Amazon has 12+1 cards for $30, currently in stock and eligible for Prime.

The price on these fluctuates and stock comes and goes -- that link might might not be the sale price or out of stock depending on when you click. I paid $40 for one of these a couple months ago.

The new Arcades I think are not eligable for the HDD upgrade because there is aparantly a larger internal cache for the NXE update. Don't buy the arcade and assume you will be eligiable, there is a chance you may not be.

Yep, most sales from retail stores such as Best Buy, Target, Circuit City (R.I.P.) run from Sunday through Saturday. You can find the deals about a week or so early by reading cheapassgamer.com video game deal forum sticky.
