Missed the $40 Amazon/Best Buy 12 month cards, best price I'm finding now is $48.99 for digital code via Newegg. Similar price via Whale-Mart. I'm coming due at the beginning of February, this a good enough price or are other $40 type deals likely to come around? Thanks,
This afternoon Amazon had 12 month codes for $53.99, and physical cards in the mail for $44.23. No taxes or shipping. Makes absolutely no sense but I jumped on the card.
Just to clarify my earlier statement. I do not mean everyone should jump on the Buy.com deal, but this is usually a signal that all of these 12 month card deals are coming so look forward to seeing deals from Amazon, Best Busy, etc over the next two or three weeks. At least that has been my experience in the past.
Amazon has 12 month Xbox Live for $39.99. I have read at Cheap Ass Gamer that Best Buy will have have it on Sunday for $35, but that may or may not pan out.

Amazon collects tax on Californians now. Since September, actually.
It maybe a state by state thing, but when I picked up my XBL 12 month card I did not have to pay sales tax. On another note if anyone is a rewards member, and your membership is not about to expire you might want to hold off to see if their is a XBL renewal deal next month.

It is. The bigger states with more revenue to recoup have been going after Amazon to collect it. Amazon made a two-year delaying action deal when CA came after them, but it's expired now. I expect all states that collect sales tax to follow suit eventually. Amazon is so big that's it's a chunk of change worth pursuing for the states.

Amazon has a location of some sort in California, do they not?

KY has had an Amazon distribution center for years. I have always paid taxes on most things, but I did not have to pay sales taxes for the 12 month card last year. I do not think this kind of item gets a sales tax on them at least in KY.

I believe the agreement between California and Amazon was that California would relent on the sales tax thing for those two years and Amazon would agree to build distribution facilities within California. Not sure if it all played out yet though.
A huge center was built in San Bernardino. hired a thousand people. jobs, taxes. good for the health of California. bad for those looking to save a few bucks.
