I have the same model and called three days ago also to be told that my set was not covered. I too asked for escalation and the "executive rep" responded that she would take care of it. I got a call from a tech on the 24th that the would be out before the end of the year. I applaud Samsung for stepping up and fixing. I have 9 Samsung products in our house and I would have hated to write them off my "buy" list over this issue. Moral of the story; escalate no matter how shy you may be.......

The DropIO service has been discontunied does anyone have a copy of the manuals they could send me? id even be willing to host he manuals on my site for people to download in the future

Wow, what a resource this thread is! I have been reading it for what seems weeks now. Allot of good stuff here. Thanks everyone! I have a HL-T6176SX/XAA, version - PH01. Any ideas if the info here transfers over to my set? Its sometimes hard to tell if the dots on you guy's sets are bigger than what I'm seeing on mine, or if its just the photos playing games with my eyes. Either way I am deffinitly having issues with the white and black dots. I think I have located the DMD chip I need for my TV but I have the info saved on my work computer that I dont have access too right now. Please let me know if you are aware of this issue with these sets also and if all the info here transfers. And BTW Pez (and there are afew others who's names I cant remember), you are a saint for sticking with this thread for all this time and helping all these people out. My hat is off too you all!!

SAME problem, but my T.V is different. It is similar to yours though. It's an HL-T6176S. I called Samsung and they told me it was not covered, but I read posts from people that called Samsung support and was told it wasn't covered, but then called the ECR line and then told it was covered. So all in all, I have no clue what Samsung is doing. Is there even a list made PUBLIC by samsung on which models they cover? Have you heard from Samsung since?

Just an FYI~

I currently own 3 Samsung DLP sets. My last set I though I was purchasing their "top of the line" 67" DLP with the LED light engine (HL67A750). This set is now having the notorious white dot problem as many other have experienced from an defective DMD chip. Samsung has refused to cover the cost to replace the defective chip yet covers the repair on other models. Samsung says my model is not covered. Same problem as the others but a different model so they say too bad. I contacted Samsung 3 separate times and was refused. I contacted the BBB and Samsung refused.

According to our files, Samsung has contacted the customer regarding the customer's unit model # HL67A750A1FXZA. Samsung advised the customer Samsung will not be replacing the chip free of charge as it is a different part and does not have an inherent defect. Samsung has offered to cover the parts fee for the customer as a courtesy but the customer has declined that offer. There are no further accommodations Samsung can offer the customer. We apologize for any inconveniences the customer may have experienced with this case. For further inquiries, please contact Samsung at 888-480-5675 and refer to case # 3000638517. Thank you.

All I can say is I am really surprised by Samsung's response.
My set is a different model yet displays the exact same defect (white dots) as several other sets which is from a defective DMD chip. Samsung refused to provide me with the chip. Instead they require me to go through a Samsung authorized repair center and pay them to come install it. Samsung or their authorized repair center both could not offer a fixed cost for this gracious service they offered.
After hearing of others having the repair covered I only wished for the same treatment.
I have zero complaints against Samsung products until now. I own 3 DLP sets, several LCD flat panel computer displays and various Samsung electronics. I replaced a color wheel, projection bulb and case fan in my first DLP set from normal usage. My second set is still issue free with a great picture. My last set (the one with the white dots) is the biggest and newest and is the one with problems. How Samsung can say with a straight face "it's not an inherent defect" when my DMD chip has failed the exact same way is amazing. I would call it an outright lie personally.


All I can say is from this point forward I will never purchase any Samsung made products ever again and I hope a class action suit emerges at some point.

Wow what a thread! I have the white dot problem with my almost-4-year-old Samsung HLS4676. I do not plan to pay for repairs. Can someone please tell me the concensus as to whether Samsung is likely to compensate me anything? If unknown, can you point me to the appropriate number to call at Samsung? Many thanks.

I have a HLS4265WX and the person i talked to yesterday said they stopped repairing TV's with the white dot defect, what did you say to your rep?

i am trying to get my dad's hl5086w fixed

replaced the lamp on my own and that worked for 5 months
then tried the ballast but it just blinks Lamp

took it to a shop and was told it's a board... i have a email in to find out if it's the DMD board

is samsung only covering spots? what about total blackness?

guess i need to call them and find out

Can you give examples of what problems you are experiencings with the TV that you need possible guidance on?

Does it not power on? What lights stay on when you attempt to power on? Are you getting video with pixelation? Your feedback will narrow down the choices of what may need replaced.

No Samsung rarely offers free sets, they will baffle you though for hours til you buy a new one from another manufacturer . This is after you have poured hundreds into the TV on self repair work (which btw is easy as the components are accessable to the average techie)

Ok. So after SEVERAL (3-5) attempts at the 1-800-samsung customer service phone number (being escalated to an "executive rep" each time) and 1 or 2 attempts at the web chat on their website and trying different ways of asking/pleading I finally tried the "Samsung Executive customer service" phone number (1-800-522-7341). Not ten minutes into the call and the rep had agreed for a one time repair for the white dot issue on my HLT6176SX/XAA with me only having to pay "diagnosis" for the repair. A service ticket was made and e-mailed to me. I called the repair shop the same day, they were able to find the repair ticket and the "diagnosis" was completed over the phone!! For no charge!! Parts are ordered, and my set should be repaired by the end of next week! Sweet, Samsung finally stepped up and did the right thing. I asked the Rep what the difference between the normal customer service phone line and this one was and she basically said that they are able to authorize more than the other customer service lines. I HIGHLY recommend anyone having problems to call this number.
I'll update as things progress, but the outlook is good.

so samsung is now telling me that they will not reimburse me for the part cause i had already fixed it.

hi i have a 50 inch samsung dlp tv model no HLN5065W. when i turn it on it will stay on just fine for anywhere from 2mins-3hours then the screen some what goes black and its got white like sratch lines through the screen and the screen freezes black and white pixles can you help me determen the problem.

Fixed!! Samsung fixed my set on the one time repair. Only out of pocket cost was 75$ for "diagnostic" charge from the TV repair shop. Finally, this is behind me and I can move on. Good luck to everyone with the white dot issue. I cannot suggest any stronger to call the executive customer service line (see my previous posts about this). If I hadn't my set would still be broken.

Wow - what an amazing and ugly adventure this has been. Thank you all for your amazing input and research. I own a bit older set HLN56W and don't have the dots many of you have but have something just as frustrating as you can see in the images below. I should mention that about a year and a half ago I had a specialist from Magnolia Hi-FI come out and replace the color wheel, and do a full service on the unit before it went out of the extended warranty.





Would you say this is also a DMD board (DLP Chip) issue? or perhaps something else? Before I call Samsung to plead for assistance I wanted to be as specific as possible in knowing what my problem was.

I have had my DLP Chip replaced 3 times and each time I have had the white circles/smudges on the screen in different places each time. Now they are wanting me to trade in my tv for a LCD. I did not have the issue before the DLP chip was replaced.

Pez, I am having the darndest time finding the correct part number for the dlp chip to fix my white dots (or pretty stars as i like to call them to keep from pushing my foot throught the front of the unit) on my HLT5075SX/XAA PD01. Can you please help me with this?

And where can I get a manual?

I replaced my DLP chip this past weekend. Pretty easy job and my set is like new again. Now if I can get Samsung to cover the cost of the chip ($150 on Ebay).

No more white dots and no thanks to Samsung either.....

Wow, I called Samsung yesterday around 4pm on my white dot issue and a tech came out and fixed it by noon today...less than 24 hours!

Samsung is still replacing these chips for free.....on a 5 year old TV!

After reading tons of threads, my strategy was to call the direct line to the Samsung ECR desk instead of the script reading reps at 1-800-Samsung.

All the rep needed was the model and serial number and told me it was covered (never asked for anything else). He set up an appointment, they came today, replaced the chip turned it on and tested it and it only took 30 minutes. Looks like an brand new friggen TV.

My model is a T5075

...and for those of you with models not covered. I watched the entire repair, If you know how to plug in a toaster you can do this. The only tool he used was a screw driver, it took 30 minutes, probably would have been 20 but we did a lot of BS'ing during the repair.

And for those that get a blurry picture after a chip replacement, I asked the tech guy about this, and he said it was all about torquing the spring loaded screws correctly.

YES, you are correct i also 3 days ago got samsung to come out and fix this white dot problem free of charge. I was told No many times over the phone (5 times i think) but when i called the Escalated Call Center they agreed within minutes to come fix my T.V. even tho it was not one of the models covered and if they try to deny just do like i did ask for there fax number and tell u would like to fax them over proof (i copied tons of info off this forum of people getting it fixed and some not getting it fixed) tell them that u know they are still fixing these T.V.'s. ----GOOD LUCK AND DONT TAKE NO FOR A ANSWER!!! model # is HLT5676SX/XAA on my T.V.

I seem to be lucky to have gotten 4 years out of my HLS4676 without the white spots.

The DLP chip replacement was not too difficult and took care of the problem.

This forum has been very helpful.

Now, I have a dark line across the bottom and appears the tilt is out of adjustment.

Could someone walk me through this adjustment?

I started getting these white dots few weeks ago. googled the info and found this site .. i just called the 1800 ( Samsung ) number and spoke with samsung rep.

She told me that samsung will repair white dot issue free of charge. i just schedule a repair for this friday.

I followed your suggestion of calling the 800# for the executive customer service line. My tv's model# was not included in the models that have already been reported and included in the "service bulletin". The rep I spoke with said she'll set me up with a service center to diagnose and confirm the "white dot" issue and when it's confirmed, she'll extend the warranty offer to fix my tv.

She was very pleasant unlike the two previous reps i spoke with when I called the 800-samsung #. One rep I spoke with last year told me "well, you're outside the warranty so i guess you're SOL." Those were his exact words. LOL.

Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction. I have been plagued with these white dots since July 2010. I started with one and my last count about 10 minutes ago it was 213. My tv's model # HLT5076SX/XAA

i am having the same issue with the white dots and i called samsung yesterday but they told me my tv was not covered...Any advice to not paying this defective hardware?

Aj, What model are you having the issue with...If it is within the models specified, I would call again, until you get satisfaction.
I have a Tech out today. I received 1 dot approximately 2 weeks ago. As of last night, there were 19. ( My 5 Year-old has been counting them every day...) Tech is now dealing with Samsung support...The set will not power up after the DMD replacement...nice.
