It does not make sense that the 63b590 is available anytime soon. I along with others on this forum were told otherwise from samsung reps.

I checked our system at Best Buy today and found the 63B590. It is not on the website but it is now in our internal system for checking stock. I can't remember exactly but I believe the retail price was something like $3799. It has an in stock date of I believe around the end of this month. So it should be around soon, which is why people say they have already seen a couple in Best Buy. We tend to get TVs a couple weeks before their in stock date for display sometimes.

emelio,

Do tell:

Does this TV have Cinema smooth ?

Does this have TV Color Enhancer 2 or 3 ?

Does this TV have Ultra Filter Bright ?

Does this TV 1 or 2 screen sheets ?

Any info you could provide about this Tv would be appreciated !

I think the buzzing sounds are hit or miss. None of the Samsungs I have bought have ever even had a hint of buzzing. The few that I have seen buzz were able to be fixed on the spot by tightening up the back chassis panel or the addition of a small piece of vblock(dynamat)on the contact point of the chassis. People that complain about the buzzing dont realise how easy it is to remedy, regardless of who makes it, be it Pioneer, Panasonic of Samsung.

THe newest B series plasmas from Sammy all do very well with nice neutral greyscale tracking and a gamma curve thats almost spot on to the ideal of 2.2. The sets I have played with include the B560, B650, B860 and Im about to check out the lower end B550 and B450 this evening wityh some updates as well(like the single/double pane of glass issue).

Just a heads up as well. People keep asking about wide color enhancer 2 and 3. Guess what folks? One is NOT better than the other. They are both basically the same color engine, but one is "tuned" to work with the heavier "Ultrafilterbright" anti glare film while the other is tuned to work in accordance with the regular "filterbright" screen. Thats it in a nutshell.

Hey zippyBongHitsWee(love the name by the way, brings me back to my younger days)so cell light should be kept at 10 and greyscale -2. Movie mode warm 2 and colorspace native am I correct in that?

Here is a quote from someone that has touched a B590:
Quote:
My local store has a B590 on display. According to the small price tag which lists a few features, lists Ultra FilterBright (a Series 8 feature) instead of the regular FilterBright.

To check Cinema Smooth, I opened the menu and made following selections: Mode | Picture | Picture Options | Film Mode gives the options Off, Auto, and Cinema Smooth.

(from: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-13973_10...hreadID=342316)

I would assume that if it has Ultra Filter Bright, it has one sheet of glass.

The buzzing sound on my 650 was not fixable by tightening screws. The buzz is generated from electrical charges in the pixels. If the brightness of the screen change, the buzzing change too. For instance, when loading a blu-ray disc, the screen will basically be dark, and the player will flash the "Loading..." text. As the text get brighter, the buzz get louder with higher frequency, so it's clearly correlated to what's displayed on the screen. Few others have observed the same thing. I checked out a few plasmas in the stores, and all of them exhibit similar buzzing frequency as what I have at home. At the stores, I just could not tell whether they are as loud as the one I had at home because of the noises.

As a side note, my old 42" Samsung plasma buzz too, but I got to be at the back of the panel to hear that. Thus, that wasn't an issue at all. But for the 58B650, I can hear the buzz even if I'm 12' away at the front of the TV.

Take a look at this site, which has a section that talk about plasma buzzing.

http://samsungplasmatvfaq.com/index.php/Troubleshooting

I'm glad many people who own plasma tvs that does not buzz at all. I wished mine could behave like that.

Which screws? The ones readily accessable on the back or are you talking about taking it apart and tightening the circuit boards to the chassis?

I saw the one on display. In addition to checking for Cinema Smooth on the menu, I downloaded the user manual from the Samsung site for the B550 which covers the B560 and B590. If you search for Cinema, you will see it is listed, but only for the B560 and B590, not for the B550.

The store price tag indicated Ultra FilterBright, but they did not have any marketing literature to verify. Not sure about Color Enhancer 2 versus 3. I did not check to see if that could be determined from the user manual.

The big issue for me is Cinema Smooth. In the LA area, a few stores each have 1. Some have not opened the unit so still new in the box. The regional warehouse has 4, so I went ahead and bought one. It will be delivered tomorrow.

Although at $3799 the B590 is a few hundred dollars more than the B550 elsewhere, Best Buy is offering for expensive items like this 36 months interest free. Depending on how you calculate the interest, that is worth a few hundred dollars.

i have a 58b560 on the way from amazon. my current set is a Sony reprojection lcd. i usually will not turn the set off if i will be away for 20 min. or less, to save on the bulb.

does a plasma set have a similar time period when you should not turn the set off?

I don't know about your room, but I've seen the 850 in a brightly lit portion of best buy and the blacks looked LCD black. I was fooled into thinking it was a LED LCD at first with how punchy the entire image was. The ultra filter bright plus preserves contrast in brightly lit rooms extremely well. There was a panasonic g10 facing the same direction right next to the samsung and the store lights were just killing it.

I've been using it since day one to protect against IR with my black bars. See numerous boorish posts by me regarding this issue.

I keep colorspace set to AUTO. Everything else is correct for a good solid ballpark.

Honestly, Samsungs "antireflection" coating is OK. The 860 has the best Samsung has to offer and I think in bright rooms its OK, nothing special. It works, but dont expect miracles.

Then thats a power supply issue. But there are those who have buzzing that resonates through the back stamped steel chassis and it can be taken care of with a little Vblok. Or you could end up with one that has no buzzing. The 2B650's I have seen were dead quiet like my B560.

It honestly depends on the TV,and each one has been different, but I have been able to completely eliminate noise on a half dozen plasma screens(Samsung, Panasonic and Pioneer) through the chassis at various points. You just have to pinpoint and track down where the buzzing comes from and go from there.

Also on the A series when you would change the cell light from 0 to 10 there wasnt much change, on the B series I noticed a lot more change going from 0 to 10, is 10 still the best to keep it at? One more thing, sorry, I have the B450 and when the screen is pure black(like at the end of a movie for example with no credits being shown yet) the outside edge of my screen flickers. It only does this in movie mode, standard and dynamic dont exhib this. Any thoughts?

there is a color space option called "Native" i'm going to guess that this is like last years "Wide". if you read the instruction manual it states that native sets the color space wider than the source. i know it's not keeping the picture exactly like the source but i prefer it over the auto setting.

as for the rest of your questions, zippy could answer better.

Right. there is only so much a coating can do, period.

my 58B560 is less reflective than the 30" HD crt it replaced so it's fine with me. i don't have any direct sunlight coming into my room, but overhead lights and lamps are no issues to me.

I just called the local BB in New Jersey and they have one on display while the B590 will be coming in the warehouse in a couple of weeks. I wanted to know if this tv has been seen in any other store other then a BB. I called my guy at 6ave electronics and he has nothing in the system yet. His store has the 860 but no 590 yet.

I saw the 50B850 at Sears and was rather impressed. Looked like at very good picture to me (and I've been looking for awhile and been rather unimpressed with everything, but the Kuro). Anyone have any thoughts or reviews? Tks
post #1915 of 2836
If you access the service menu via (mute, 1, 8, 2, power) there is an option to turn 24x4 on. It is currently turned off. With this setting turned on the TV will display Cinema smooth. Hope this helps, as the 860 is $100.00 more.

Hi jae3cpa,

You might get it sooner. Not all Best Buys give the same information, or it could vary from employee to employee. The store closest to me said there were none in the warehouse and all stores had display units only. The same store said expected ship date is 4 weeks away. The other Best Buy, where I bought it, had a new one in the box, and determined the warehouse had 4 in stock. I later called the warehouse dispatch to confirm and they said they had several. Bottom line - don't accept what the first person tells you unless you are sure they really checked it out.

Comments on a couple of other posts:

I was told he 590 is the Best Buy specific model.

You might be able to turn on the Cinema Smooth menu item, but that does not, in itself, guarantee the chipset and firmware will support it. Unless you have other information, you might be taking a gamble instead of just paying the extra. If the units were out and the chipset and firmware was identified, the situation might be different.

Wow...I had a feeling that it would just be a matter of changing something in the service menu. I looked around in there the other day but couldn't see anything that looked like it would turn cinema smooth on. I can't believe I did not notice the 24Px4 option..hah.

It definitely worked it looks like, I now have the Cinema Smooth option in my Menu under Film Mode on my 850

I am curious though, The info still says 24hz when I am watching the Blu-Ray, is that correct or should it say 96hz? Anyone seen what it says on the 860s? Do the Pioneers say 72Hz when playing a Blu Ray or just 24Hz and we are to assume it is playing it back at 72?

Thanks again for the info Foxdii!

Wow, that's huge! I guess all it comes down to now whether Ultra Filterbright Plus is worth $100.
