Folks at dvdtalk have reported that, if you place an order with steelbooks and call/email, they will manually adjust it for you. YMMV though.

Any early reviews out there?

I wonder what everybody around here is going to do when they stop producing the steelbook versions about halfway through the series' release on Blu-ray.

Amazon doesn't have them listed yet for the May pair of titles. After Best Buy and Amazon, will someone else get the steelbook exclusives this time?

(I vote for Circuit City, as they have had some pretty good prices lately...)

Blu-ray.com has their review up. It's a UK copy but should be basically identical to the one we'll get. They Gave it 4.5/5 for video and 5/5 for audio:

MGM is putting out the US version compared to Fox in the UK. The audio and video should be just as good if not better. The MGM Bond movies that already came out sound great with the 5.1 DTS-HD MA. Die Another Day sounded insane

Per the Blu-Ray.com review grain appears to be intact.

I am excited to get this on Blu-Ray. The theater I watched it at had horrible SQ. I am not sure if they were having issues with the film or their equipment, but the dialogue was very low, and the music and explosions, etc were super loud. I almost walked out of the theater, but I was too into the movie.

Solace's photography was significantly less grainy than Casino Royale to start, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue.
I thought the whole starting car chase was super grainy

Yeah I seem to recall it being a bit grainy. According to IMDB the production used a mix of HD digital and 35mm film, not sure which was used when, but it might explain it.

I'm really excited to get this to go with my copy of Casino Royale (since it forms a complete narrative) in a few weeks :-)

Fox distributes MGM films in the US.

I asked this earlier, but now that these discs are starting to see the light of day, has anyone established if different cuts exist for different parts of the world like they did with CASINO ROYALE?
It will be released here only a dvd(1 or 2 discs) tomorrow.

Watched this on blu-ray last night.

The plot, story points, pros and cons have been well-discussed so I won't rehash much of that here. I will say I agree with some complaints that the frequent jump-cutting and overuse of hand-held camera during many action scenes and the ultimately pretentious opera sequence along other quibbles contribute to make this direct sequel to Casino Royale a significantly lesser followup to that film. I also think The White Stripes opening credits tune/montage is one of the weakest in the entire series. Still, it's a very enjoyable film especially watched directly after it's predecessor.

Getting down to the movie quality itself on blu-ray, the video quality is *nearly* as good on disc as Casino Royale, which means this is pretty close to reference quality. The filming style and photography isn't quite as colorful and sharp, especially during some of the action sequences but whenever the camera is pretty much locked down shooting beautifully lit and designed interiors, the presentation looks fabulous. Some viewers may have issues with some occassional harshness in some scenes and edge ringing on high contrast scenes but I notice the same issues in the theater and I fully attribute that to the way this movie was shot and digitally processed in post production vs anything to do with the transfer to blu-ray.

The DTS HD 5.1 sound is also excellent. I thought the dialog in some scenes was mixed a bit low on the center channel but overall, I was quite happy with how well it sounded. The extra content is alright but frankly, I had little interest. Probably my biggest notch against this presentation is the onscreen menu page which at first had me thinking my monitor suddenly lost most of it's color satuaration as the background is a drab, washed out gray map graphic with the menu controls superimposed over it. And the menu control graphic when used while the movie is playing basically pops up and obscures 1/3rd of the side of the picture unlike most blu-ray menus which pop out from the bottom or side leaving most if not all the movie image intact in a much more elegant way.

I'm also interested to know this. Thanks!

I've heard that the UK version at least, was pre-cut in conjuction with advice from the BBFC. Whether or not this version was used as a template for all international versions, remains to be seen. Going with the Australian version myself.

I owned a dvd, just out,the picture was superb with grains or noise free, also the sound was excellent, very aggressive ,splitting surround sound. The movie was short when related to CR.Also,This BD will be commig tomorrow, with highly expectation for more better vision and DTS-HD MA sound.

Just picked up looking forward to watch tonight

I was in New York this week and bought it, I felt this was an enjoyable movie at the theatres. Of course, my friends and I have always enjoyed the Transporter movies, so as long as the plot isnt completely awful, I can find enjoyment in almost any action movie.

I also bought a "replica" Omega watch which Craig wore in the movie for $20. The quality is actually not bad, at all. And people at work compliment it all day, heh.

This movie has a few foreign-language dialogue scenes. Are the Blu-ray's subtitles in the picture or in the lower letterbox bar?

I'm sure ,the subtitles will be in the image area for CIH user. The reasons;1.from Fox in 2.4:1 ratio 2.as a dvd as I already watch,it was in the picture area, not in the lower black bar.If it was released by Sony as BD,The subtitles will be include in the lower black bar.

Those subtitles for the scenes you mention are in the image area in a small yellow font, just like the film in theaters and are *in addition* to "regular" English subtitles when the subtitle option is selected (so sometimes you have both sets of subtitles crowding but not overlapping each other on the bottom of the image). I did not check to see if the change when using a different language option.

Few Grabs from the UK disc (I did not grab them, so cannot vouch for what looks like some JPG compression)
