Better Pre/Pro : Onkyo 805 or 806?

Will be used strictly as a pre/pro with separate amp... and used as a zone2 (but sound quality is not a big deal).

Which unit is a better pre/pro - mostly used for Home Theater.

thx!

805. It's worth the extra power, as long as you have the proper space to cool it. Better DACs, way more power.

power does not matter... again PRE/PRO ONLY usage

Well for Pre/Pro only usage, the newer pre/pro is ALWAYS the better Pre/Pro.

Only thing you lose with 806 is you get Audyssey MultiEQ instead of MultiEQ XT. You gain Dynamic EQ and Volume.

If you want full receiver, that's where the 805/806 debate comes in.

Just get the 806.

Sorry, long night for me....finals in 2 weeks...

But the 805 does have much better DACs (Burr Brown PCM1796), which are important if you're bitstreaming to the AVR...the $5,000 Yamaha RX-Z11 has the same DACs. Also better Audyssey ...

But for AVR, 805 is overall a better choice...IMO

Even if you dont bitstream to the receiver, and use LPCM, the same DAC's gets used.
