Moxi 3012 DVR Q&A and Discussion Thread - Page 12

Does anybody know if Charter has plans to expand the Moxi 3012 to other areas outside of St. Louis?

I agree the overall speed is slow, but I am having a terrible time with my remote actually getting thru to the unit. I changed batteries, no help. Sometimes I can get into a good run and communicate but other times I get no response at all. I tried moving around, pointing at the ceiling, sitting directly in front of the unit, lights on, lights off, and I can not determine anything that helps all the time. I am ready to throw something at something else.

Ok, I actually got the Universal Remote WR7 to work with the Moxi by simply "learning" the buttons from the Moxi remote provided by Charter. The "111" code doesn't work. The response to the unit is amazingly better than the Moxi remote. I sincerely believe there is something wrong with the Charter Moxi remote. I can now get a 100% response from my remote to the unit regardless of angle, lighting, distance, or any other factor. That, along with the recent software update, has made by viewing much better than before. By far, the purchase of the WR7 was the best $20 bucks I've spent lately.

Yes, it is the remotes. I have an older 9012 MOXI. My dog ate my old remote (insert joke here). I went and got a new remote that works with both MOXI's. Once I programmed it for the 9012 model the performance on my MOXI was terrible. The only thing that had changed was the remote. It would take three or four tries before I could get a fast forward to stop. About a week ago my MOXI died and I got a new one (9012 still) with the old remote. It's back to the performance of the old MOXI with the old remote.

So which remote are you now using that you said is giving you the same performance as the old Moxi? The newer remote with the clear colored keys vs. the old 9012 remote with the black keys?

I would say that the software upgrade last week improved the response of the remote, however it is definitely not on the same response level as the old Moxi 9012.

This is the model of esata hard drive I bought. IT has USB as well as firewire incase you need to use it later for something else. Good speed (7200 rpm) and a large Cache (16MB) It also has a on/off/auto button. The auto is for energy saving so of course you don't want that so just turn to on NOT auto. I got a refurbshed one for $120(they have no refurbished ones right now) but they sell now for $179 for a 1TB. Pricey, but I wanted to make sure I got a good reliable one. It is working splendidly. Of yeah, it came with every type of cable you would need for USB, firewire or esata...no glitches, pixilation, pauses.......If it dies I will let you know.

My friend bought this 1 TB one several months ago and it works great for him.

The one I have now has the solid color buttons with the Charter emblem in blue. The one that I was using is the clear button remote.

So you have the older 9012 MOXI, not the new 3012 MOXI?

Umm....what question was I asking exactly? I was trying to inform people that the new remotes are causing some of the slowness issues.

Sorry I half read the entire exchange and then saw you have a 9012. No need to get angry I use a Harmony remote anyhow. The Moxi remotes have always had slow response.

Continue!

No, you don't need to apologize. My reply was a little...snarky and it wasn't called for. Chalk it up to a bad day. Anyway I'm in both boards because even though I don't have a 3012 yet (hopefully soon) I've been able to both get and give good information in both boards. Once I was able to test both remotes side by side and see the performance difference I wanted to let everyone know.

I know that the remotes for the 9012 and the 3012 are different. I have a 9012 remote left over and was wondering if I took it into my Charter office they would give me a 3012 remote so that me and the misses would have our own?

The new remote for the 3012 (clear buttons) can be programmed to work on either MOXI. When I got my new remote they gave me instruction to recode it for use with the 9012's. It's designed to work out of the box with the 3012's though

I don't think Charter will give you any grief for asking for a new remote. I told them my dog ate mine and there wasn't much left, which was the truth. They just gave me a new one without turning the old on in.

Last night I hooked up my new external Lacie hard drive when I accidently turned off the power to the MOXI. I went ahead and hooked up the eSATA drive and booted............saw the MOxi screen for about 30 seconds and then it went all GREEN and then eventually all blue.....until the clock was correct and the sound came on but no picture. Tried unhooking the drive.....same....sound, but no video. The Moxi is hooked up via HDMI and has worked flawlessly since installed a few weeeks ago. I tried a new HDMI cable..same. Tried unplugginig the MOXI for a few minutes and rebboting w/o drive. same.

So.....I hooked up old RCA composite cables and could see the video and sound. I could see that it actually detected the drive and wanted to format it...OK format then cool. Reboot....back to HDMI....no picture....very odd. Tried different HDMI port on TV....same...
Finally went to component cables and have nice HD but still wonder why I no longer have HDMI capability. Anyone have any ideas?

I didn't have to manually get it to work, either I used a Motorola code from the back or programmed it with the quick way (first way listed) listed in the remote manual.

But I agree, it works much faster than the one they give you, for whatever reason.

Went by and traded in my older remote from the old Moxi and got an extra now for the new Moxi...sweet!

Just noticed last night that I'm able to output standard def channels in widescreen with the HDTV setting set to 720P output only. Prior to that when I tried doing this it cut off the sides and showed the gray bars. I guess this was part of the software upgrade a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone else finding Moxi incrediably slow today? I mean 8-10 second delay to get a channel to change. It has never been this bad. Not a problem with remote (at least red light flashes when hit buttons). This just started today. Anybody else?

Nope. Usually a hard reboot will fix that though.

I tried that but will try again. thanks.

It did seem unusually slow yesterday. Why can't they fix this??? It just baffles me.
Over the past few days my Moxi has seemed a little slower in response time. This comes after what seemed to be a speed increase a couple of weeks back with the software update.

A recent reboot of the Moxi seems to have brought back the improved responsiveness (though still not as good as the old Moxis).
Crazy that the newer Moxis are SLOWER than the older ones. I still have two 5+ year old Moxis...glad I haven't "upgraded" to the newer ones.

Like many others on this thread, I got a Moxi and was blown away by the horrible responsiveness and overall uselessness of the remote control. I had it for one day and I was ready to call and cancel.

Out of desperation I tried the "tissue paper" fix that was discussed on this forum. However, since I didn't have any tissue paper handy, I used a plain, white piece of printer paper. To my surprise, it totally worked!

It's still not the most responsive DVR I've ever had, but it's leagues and bounds better than it used to be. I was going to give Moxi the boot, now I'm going to keep it.

Now, to my next point: anyone know of an iPhone app for the Charter Moxi? U-Verse, Direct TV, Dish, and ComCast all have apps that allow you to schedule recordings, where are you at Charter? Get on it!

How big of a stip of paper did you use, and where did you place it?

I used a full sheet of paper, and taped it on the left side of the box. Currently, it covers the entire left side and most of the middle (including the clock). I'm gonna try trimming it so I can see the clock, hopefully it will still work.

Anybody else ever have the buttons on the Moxi remote start to "stick"? Did the buttons just wear out? It sure makes a slow system suddenly become an incredibly slow system. This happen to anybody else?
ok disregard my last request Obviously I shoud go get a new remote from Chareter but my question now is which one? I have the clear key remote which came with the 3012 which it seems you all say is bad. Will the black key remote work better and does it work with the 3012 or just the 9012? Or shoudl I go out an buy the Universal Remote WR7 ? Your help please. I don't want to go the "tape the paper over the unit" approach unless I have to.
