What Reciever Is The Best and What Shud I Buy ??? - Page 4

seriously, this guy is quite the charmer. why SHUD anybody even want to respond anymore?
Seems the poster is taking a lot of flack for disliking Denon. Seems that's his right, and he should not be subjected to attacks because of it - AND it serves no purpose to attack the poster. If you think he's a troll, report the thread.

You should know how pointless personal attacks are. The thread becomes a bunch of kids bickering rather than adults discussing.

Or do people actually LIKE flame wars? I know I don't - not one bit.

I believe it is his approach, not his dislikes. Look at his post history.

it has NOTHING to do with Denon or any other brand preference. It's the attitude. Who cares if he doesn't want to buy a Denon?

Wow, have you actually read any of this thread or his other posts?
Well, if you like flame wars, making posts attacking someone for their attitude is a good way to start them up
post #97 of 181
MichaelJ,
I've read his posts in other threads and the guys here are correct. He has had made only one positive comment and then he followed it with an insult because the guy had some Denon equipment. I won't get into any flame wars.

So, let's take this opportunity to hijack the thread then - since it's already been asked, are there any negatives to the Marantz 5003? I'm in the same hunt, and haven't really considered the Marantz line seriously until I saw that refurb price.
I've had Marantz receivers for years and the SR5003 is next in line for me very soon.

There have to be, what, a dozen threads running right now asking the same questions just with different names. In reality, there is little to no difference in sound quality between any of these receivers. Make a list of the features that are important to you, then look for a list of receivers that offer those features, regardless of brand and model. Buy the one that you can get the best deal on. Enjoy and don't look back. Receivers are a lot like software, there are bugs in all of them. One usually finds what they are looking for, if you get my drift. Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer and yes, even Sony are all good choices. Throw a dart and have fun.

Gotcha - I get all that - I've had Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer and currently an HK 635. My question was more "Now that Marantz is in my price range of sorts, I can't recall hearing anything negative about them - anyone have any gripes?" Combination of my laziness and my desire to hijack the thread from the OP.

(Digging through the Marantz threads now...)

Man, I wish I had known this I wouldn't have wasted all that time auditioning the different brands and models I did. If everyone took your advice there would be only a couple of threads on this site. A lot of the threads you are talking about seem to be from people who maybe are just getting into this hobby and are seeking advice from others who have been here for a while. Look at all the new people and their post counts. Soon as they get the hang of it they will use the search option, but until then IMO I don't think you can just throw all the receivers in a bag shake em up and pull out one you'll like.

That was my point. If you go looking for gripes on Marantz you will most certainly find them. Just as you would with the other brands as well. Its just the nature of the beast. Especially when it comes to HDMI. If the Marantz has the features you want, you like it, and can afford it, don't look for gripes, buy it.

I resent your sarcasm and it was uncalled for. Regarding the portion of your post above:

I do. As long as the ones in the bag all have the same features. And I suspect that the majority of the posters on this site agree, with newb's excepted.

You have 1700+ post on this site and you still believe that all receivers with same features all sound alike. Even the ones that are using the ICE amps. This hobby that we BOTH love stays as active and popular as it is because of the knowledge that can be shared whether we are newbies or not. The both of us will always have something to learn from this site as the technology is always changing as is the manufacturers. I apologize if you feel offended by my sarcasm, likewise I don't feel anyone here can make a blanket statement that ALL AVR's will sound the same. Thats the same as saying all speakers will sound alike if they have the same amount of drivers or tweeters. I don't have golden ears and I don't need a DBT to be able to say I can hear the difference between the different brands of AVR's with the same features.
No!!...no the all amps sound the same again!

Seriously, we should ask the mods to create a stickied thread like they did over in the CD forum so the debate can be isolated

Believe me, I understand what you're saying. Which brings it back to my point - there is no clear 'winner' in this (any) category/price range. So a quick and easy way to differentiate between them is to figure out where they're lacking. If the norm is 4 HDMI inputs and XXX has 2, that's notable. If they normally run +20 deg C and one runs +35 deg C, that's notable. OSD, frequent PITA updates, known incompatibilities with components, etc.

Bottom line - any 'dealbreakers'... no biggie though - from what I've read here/elsewhere, there really aren't any that I've found.

I appreciate the comments atdamico.

Dont go for a projector VM. Seriously your apt is to small for that, Where are you gonna put a 10' screen???where are you gonna put the projector.....I think the throw needs to be something like 15' to get a decent picture.

love your choice of speakers though, however in your apt they may end up looking like scaffolding.

Blackberry devices are used in business across the world, not just in Hollywood, my friend. The beauty of one is the full keyboard, which allows you to type full words. I guess the difference is that I use mine for business, and you clearly don't.

Please enlighten us, since you are living it up in the "hills", how old are you and what do you do?
Video Master....just curious, how old are you? And, what do you do for a living?

No flame intended, just really curious.

That's fine but exactly what are you looking for in your quest.

I have a question as I'm a newbie to the whole home theater hobby scene. Just got a Kuro due to the sale prices and need a receiver, someone earlier in the thread mentioned something about HDMI "repeater". I don't understand this concept, could someone explain it? Thanks.
