Cool. Request for a ED 19Ov.2 if anyone has one. Too far of a drive for me or I'd offer mine up.
Sounds good. Wish I was as little closer. Maybe someone with an Epik in that area could attend?

You are going to listen to the units on a one to one basis correct? IE just one Mal-x compared to one TC2K etc...?
very cool. Im looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

That is the plan Ricci.... Pretty much the same as our speaker shootouts.
We have in the past worked through a number of different material, just for $hits and giggles and then narrowed it down to a few songs or passages that seemed to press the dynamics of the products in the best manor, and stick with that or those to put all the speakers/subs through their paces, one at a time.

Hi Warp',

Sounds like fun. Too bad it's the same day as the Chicago area GTG zamboniman is hosting where I'll have some speakers at. I was hoping some of you Wisconsinites would make it down. I know funlvr1965 is making the trip down from Madison.

Warp,

After Mark's comments above, I sense a reschedule of the meet coming on!

More silly questions...Are you going to use the same location for each SW and the same signal chain/ amplifier for the DIY types? Will a sealed box be used for each of the DIY sw's?

Hey Mark..... thanks for stopping in.... this date has been only been tentatively set, so it could be a possibility for us to change the date so I or others may make it down to the Chicago Meet....

Appreciate the heads ups... to many dates to remember.

I was typing to Mark when I saw your post after.... they certainly could pose an striking need for a change in dates...

As far as the signal chain, I had planned on utilizing one of the SMS's I have here, to hook up the subs through, but haven't really determined the best way to attack this. I think to be fair it would be best to use the same location for all subs to get the best results, but I guess we'll have to see how things go. I also would have to make an effort to find the best placement in room for best placement response, which wouldn't be all that difficult with the SMS.

All subs that will be involved so far will be sealed except the Ultra13.
Amps for the DIY's will be one or all of mine, I have 2 - QSC 2502's and 1 EP2500....

All my DIY subs have Speakon connectors which makes things pretty quick and easy.

6 outputs from a DCX-2496 and a connection to a laptop would probably be a good route to go as you can mute and un-mute outputs as well as recall different settings.

I would like to see a XXX at this party too.

Nah I'll just mail one to him. Warp be on the look-out for a svelte 118lb package in your mailbox. Then all you have to do is whip up a box. Oh yeah we'll need a bigger amp too...

I'd be interested in attending this. I have a 24" cube with an A15H and pair of 18" PR's that I could bring and some smaller subs as well. Any of the AV woofers or TD woofers or the new 6.5" could be brought. It just depends on what people may want to see. I also have a dbx driverack 260 and a dcx2496 that I could bring if needed.

John Hanitz from Elite Audio would be interested in bringing as much of his small system there as needed. It consists of the tops with dual TD12M's and a BMS compression driver on XT1086 horn, the dual 18 vented subs with the new TD18H+ woofers, and the rack with a pair of the Lab Gruppen PLM 10000Q's with the dolby lake built in.

Well dang, at first I was joking... After what John just posted I'm actually thinking about attending it now. I could bring both a XXX and an LMS Ultra. Heck I could bring an SDX 15 too. Only problem is I'd have to whip up new enclosures for all of them (current XXX and SDX enclosures are BIG, nicely finished and heavy)and then how do I get them all in the vehicle. Hmmm...

What size drivers are the XXX and LMS? I could probably bring multiple 24" cubes tuned to 16-18hz with pair of 18" Pr's. Drop one woofer in each and be able to do a comparison between the drivers.

John your presence would really put this over the top, and any products you feel you would like to bring, would be certainly welcome as well. They look like some impressive builds, I would love to see/hear them... I have read alot about the A15H's, enough to want to hear them and be able to recommend to others. I am about 20 miles north of Milwaukee.

My extra room in my basement isn't huge, but I think we could easily make it work for the masses, its where I have been hosting speaker shootouts...

Ricci, I am not sure what you would need in the way of enclosures, I have at least 2 15" boxes (a 21" cube and a 20" cube external) that are easily available for the SDX. The Cutouts are obviously for TC-drivers, I believe Ilkka did a straight drop in with them. It would be great to have you, albiet a somewhat long commute...

I'm not sure what the cutouts are for either of those drivers, but I can easily pull a Mal-X out of one of my 24" Cubes.
Cutouts for my boxes are 16 3/4 inner baffle and 18 1/2 outer.

Both are 18". The XXX is oversized a bit and has a 19" frame. LMS is a more standard 18.625". Both are 80lbs. That'd be truly awesome John. I'd love a chance to hear some of your products anyway. Let's see what Warp says about all of this and the possible rescheduling. Then maybe we could work something out.

Edit: Beaten to the punch! I'm thinking it would be an 8hr drive one way give or take. I've done worse and I travel all of the time, so not really a big deal to me if it's something that I want to do.

The LMS dimensions i will have to look up. I think that it will fit in a standard Mal-x sized cut-out. The SDX would drop in the TC 2000 cut-out I'm pretty sure too. The XXX will not it is a bit oversized, so I would have to come up with a box for that one.

XXX 18"
Mounting Depth - 14.75"
Mounting Hole Diameter - 17.375"
Overall Diameter - 19"
Bolt Hole Circle - 18.25"
Motor Width - 10.5"
Motor Depth - 5"
Basket Depth - 9.75"
Displacement - 0.30 cu. ft.
Weight - 78 lbs.

L...O...L!!!

Especially this time of year!

I'm really bummed, I was getting all excited thinking I may actually be able to go to one of these GTG then I realized it says "SE WI" not "SW WI". Changed drive time from ~1hr (if I stayed with a friend in the twin cities) to ~9hr, not much of a "day" trip

It's pretty lonely for a HT enthusiast in northern Minnesota.
I would attend if it weren't for the fact that I'm surrounded by villages and the animal kingdom. . .

Regards,

I'm seriously considering it. I've always wanted to go to one of these GTG and this one sounds like it could be pretty epic. I'd love to hear all of these different drivers!

You could invite Chad (Epik) as he is at least somewhat close to your area. Adding his subs to the mix would make for a great "shootout"

Hell I could bring an LMS 5400... but customs might give me a hell of a hassle. Warp, whereabouts are you located in Wisconsin...? I have a DCX 24/96 and a MIC PRO 2200 as well as QSC PLXII 3102 and 3602's.

I don't know if I could get time off work, it would depend on a few things. If it's not too far, I am definately interested.
