BTW how late do you think this may go? I'm contemplating leaving work early and could maybe be up there later.

I'm sure it will be going on after 6pm... I'll be there all night

We got the Jeep cram packed with stuff and made it into Chicago about 1am last night. I'll be out and about for most of the next 2 days, so internet access will be sporadic. See you guys Saturday.

Did anyone volunteer a pre-amp or receiver yet?

Especially this time of year!

I'm really bummed, I was getting all excited thinking I may actually be able to go to one of these GTG then I realized it says "SE WI" not "SW WI". Changed drive time from ~1hr (if I stayed with a friend in the twin cities) to ~9hr, not much of a "day" trip

It's pretty lonely for a HT enthusiast in northern Minnesota.

I may be just one state over from Warp but I was just poking around with google maps and found that you're actually 100 miles closer to Milwaukee than I am!

I actually got clearance from the wife to go this week. I called up my buddy in the twin cities and found he's not doing anything this weekend either. I'm still on the fence though as it'd be ~6hr from his place to Warp's then 6hr back in the same day (I'm too cheap to pay for a hotel ). Also mother nature may be protesting. Southeast ND got 14" of snow last night and it's heading toward the twin cities right now. I guess we'll see how the weather plays out but if they get a bunch of snow I don't think I'll be making it

I'll PM you when I know for sure though Warp.

It's only 435 miles for me, or roughly 7.5hrs...

Have a safe trip, Ricci. See you Saturday.

Looks like we might just skate by on this storm front... seems to be heading to the north of us... I'm glad, I don't need another boat load of snow before a GTG, last party took me a day of cleaning to recover from... What a mess...

I really wanted to show up, but I cannot swing this one. In laws comming over, and Sunday have a brunch.

The wife even tried to talk me into going!

This sounds like a blast! Wisconsin is just a little too far from Western Washington. I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts. Dang, I would love to go!

Hey Ricci, just finished up trimming and sanding your box today, will be ready to go for the XXX !!! My 3rd Mal-X won't be here before the GTG, so the use of that box will be no issue of changing out drivers, just loading it up with the LMS. I have to say I'm finally glad to be able to get to listen to one...

I'm pretty sure we have the Pre-Amp or Reciever covered..... at this point.

Can't hurt to have a couple of backups though... Bring 'em if you got 'em.

Hey Warpdrv, just out of curiosity, will there be a scoring method (system) that will be used to grade the subs you will be testing? Will you be looking at the SQ and SPL of the subs to see who does best? Will each member there post their own personal opinion upon each sub test? By the way, even though I'm enjoying the great weather down here in S. Florida, I would love to be there (even with the cold weather) but can't at this moment. Hope everything goes well for you guys and you start posting news the same day the tests are done or soon after.

Hey spanish... My original intentions were never to turn this into an SPL Race. I started all this with my own intentions to find subs that have the best possible attributes of SQ first and after that the score moves on to SPL - with the caveat being the drivers would have to retain that same certain quality of SQ. With that said, I think there are a those contenders that will obviously hit the mark of SPL and those that will stand for SQ.

I think we can all come to pass which drivers lie where they do... And then there are the mystery drivers that some people have heard and some people haven't had the opportunity....

I own a JL F112.... I know in my heart, that there are few subs that will offer the characteristics that this driver does. It has become the sub I now measure all other subs - Output, SQ, but most importantly being proficient throughout the entire range of their capabilities. Upper Bass is one of the most important qualities that I have set as precedence in my search for high end/high output drivers. My TC 2000/Tc 3000 drivers offer the SQ, SPL, impact, but it lacks in that extra very special dept. for me - Its all about the upper bass...

I think this is a great opportunity for people to come together and feel out the qualities that the many drivers available have to offer.... lets just let the chips fall where they may.... SQ first...

Ok so took off work, but I'm heading down to Round Lake, IL to pick up my hat channel and am meeting friends for lunch. I could probably be there by 4ish. Hope everyone is still there!

Warpdrv, like you, I also value SQ first on a subwoofer and then SPL. I'm still looking for that "almost perfect" DIY 15" sub. Like you, I have the TC 3K sub, great up to 60hz, after that, it drops off quite a bit (lacks the upper bass response I'm looking for), has great build quality but requires a lot of power to run it to its full potential. Before the TC 3k sub, I had the CCS SDX sub, a good all around performer for low-upper bass. It has less lower bass performance and better upper bass when compared to the TC 3K sub, build quality is just o.k. and its SQ is good (not great). Both of these subs were/are in a 3.75cf sealed box and powered by 1,300 watts. I finally think I found the "all around performer" sub for my somewhat small box and moderate power, AV 15H/X subs. Great SQ, awesome upper bass response which can be crossover beyond 200hz, very good quality (build in the U.S.A), affordable, and good low bass. I've been talking to simon5 and John at AE and they have provided me with all the information I requested (including graphs comparing it to other competitors such as CCS, Tempest). I believe this is the best 15" DIY driver in the market right now, the only hard decision I have is whether I should get the AV15H or AV15X (probably the AV15H since it's made for smaller enclousures, but still thinking about it). I will wait for all you guys input on this sub (I think you have the AV15X model) before buying it, but I believe you won't be dissapointed by its performance, specially its SQ.

Too bad the Ultra 13 is not showing up. I would have liked to maybe see some more commercial subs to compare against DIY subs. Subs from either ED, Epik (a new model), Hsu ULS-15 and maybe AV123 MFW-15, all popular and best bang for the $ in the commercial side. Oh well, maybe next time.

That's a bummer about Terry not being able to make it. He's a cool guy, plus I'd love to hear that PB13 Ultra. Such is life...

When his Salk HT2's come in, I'll be heading up there to hear both....

That should be a nice time....

^ Yes, it will be. I'll be going with you, by the way. You don't have a choice.
Tomorrow I will be more interested in SQ than anything else. SPL is great, but most of these badboys should get up to 110dB or higher before they quit, no? If so, then the best SQ is the category I am most interested in. I own a TC2000 15" DIY subwoofer, and I love everything except the dropoff above 60hz. A 60Hz crossover to my mains helped a great deal, but I still have a midbass hump that I hope to EQ out with the BFD I just received. Tomorrow will be a great day, especially since it will help me decide whether the upper bass can be fixed with EQ or if I need to replaced the driver with something more smooth throughout the entire FR. Let's hope it's the former, as the TC has great impact.

I know my intentions at the GTG are to compare SQ over SPL. I for one know my little sealed Rythmik wont keep up to the much larger DIY offerings in terms of sheer output plus I in no way want to subject it to any bottoming out or etc to "See how loud it goes". I am not a basshead and dont have the $ for any repair bills. So if anyone has max SPL in mind when my Rythmik is playing, I ask now that you dont even bother and let me handle the volume on the remote, thanks

Sorry for the comments, I just am a bit nervous with my stuff.

See everyone tomorrow!

I wish I could have come to this, but life interferes. I have 4 of the Rythmik 15" in a master/slave arrangement, plus a dual sealed Maelstrom-X. The Rythmiks definitely sound better to me. They also blended the best with my line source speakers. When SPL is an issue, you just add more Rythmiks! I look forward to Brian's future offerings. I also look forward to the results here at your GTG. Sounds like a blast.

Fatawan

4 Rythmiks, I am jealous You are correct, if more output is needed, just add more!

I considered having duals, but for my tastes, one does just fine in my room, luckily.

Tomorrow should be fun.

Take care,
Brandon

Fatawan, what is the room like where you have all the subs?

speaking of Rythmiks.... UPS just showed up... gots me a Prototype Rythmik in my truck as we speak....

Unpacking won't happen until tonight though......

I wish I could load all my subs in a 18 wheel truck and come over. But I am a bit lazy these(enjoy my systems and piloting helis) days and due to my almost always charged work it is not realistic.

NICE! Crunch time is just around the corner...or should I say, it's already begun for you, warp.
