I've been watching Rear Projection DLP set prices since early December 08 when talk began of 2008 being the last year to see new models... Now that CES 2009 has come and gone we know Samsung will not be introducing any new DLP models in 2009, leaving Mitsubishi as the sole manufacture of Rear projection televisions moving forward 2009 and beyond.
Without getting into specific pricing in terms of retailer name and make and model (since that would be outside the scope of this forum), in general do you think the clear out has begun? In the last week I've seen several on-line vendors drop pricing on DLP sets from the normal 15-20% below MSRP up to 20-30% off MSRP. On some of these sets that's $600+ markdown on some of the larger sets... Do you think this is the result of the CES 2009 announcement or just typical pre-Superbowl sales?
I've seen more than a few comments in threads in this forum regarding 'I'm waiting for closeout pricing'. I have to wonder with only Mitsubishi and Samsung in the game (with only a few models to pick from) it seems the supply and demand is balanced on these sets.... It's possible those deep discounts will never come.
