From my best trolling it looks like the Win Vista to Win 7 upgrade path will offer a deal to those purchasing Win Vista OEM after July 1.

I'm fairly certain no one in their right mind will upgrade anything with a stable platform to something new from Microsoft right away -- unless you like reloading operating systems. It would be nice though to have the upgrade in your back pocket for the right time to do the upgrade some months later.

Here's a link to the TechARP post. I appears there is nothing yet official from Microsoft so consider this really likely but not a guarantee.

For us system builders an important question come up - I would think - regarding the eligibility to get the upgrade if you purchase an OEM of, say, Vista Ultimate from NewEgg, Fry's, or Directron with the requisite hardware are you entitled to the upgrade or do you have to meet some other unique touchpoints to avoid being SOL??
