I rarely use mine either, but before I stick in a disc, I rinse it out with soap. Every time I pick up a rental, the disc is soiled in popcorn grease, fingerprints and dust. Eventually it all gathers on the laser head. If this is the case, I personally wouldn't be afraid to take it apart to simply clean out the lens.
