The Harmony 1100 Owner's Thread... - Page 35

atreyue, I believe it is because of the type of device the Harmony software undestands you are programming that it is limiting your options. I would try to see if a similar device is in the database under a different category, perhaps a dvd player by a similar manufacturer. If not you can create a new device and teach it all the commands you want from the original remote. It may be more time consuming but it may be your best option.
Thanks for your reply.

All the pages you would expect to see appear on the remote and work. The tabs for them also appear in the software (including one that is a picture of a CD). My problem is that none of these other tabs besides hard buttons are selectable, so I cannot edit them. My cursor also changes to its loading/thinking status anywhere on the screen that isn't clickable the entire time I'm in the activity.
Ya, I figured it was the software where you were being limited. Again I would go with learning a new device and programming.

I initially had an issue with one of my devices. Certain commands wern't appearing at all on the remote after updating. Ultimately I had to re-add the device as an amplifier vs. a switcher. Not the same problem you are having, but just shows how they are still having bugs with this version of the software which was new for the 1100 and the 900.
I uninstalled the software and reinstalled, and the problem went away. An annoying waste of a day trying to find other ways to troubleshoot, but at least it's gone. Thanks again for your help.

So I just purchased the 1100 and extender

I am setting up this weekend 3 tvs 1 blu ray and 3 cable boxes -- the blu ray and 3 cable boxes (att) will be behind the wall - 2 of the tvs are the same

suggestions on where to start - I have been reading everything - this is the first Harmony or similar remote i have used

i want to be watching all three tvs at once on game days but only one at times also

Thanks

thanks i will see what can be done with the timings, as for the LCD I hae a samsung as well. what can be done if it is the lcd?

Not sure if this will work, but this is what I would try:
  1. Add all the devices (TVs, cable boxes, etc.) to your set up
  2. Manually add a "Watch TV" activity with your primary cable box/DVR and TV
  3. Step through the input selections for your equipment
  4. On the "Review" screen, choose "Yes, but I want to add more control..."
  5. From the "Devices Not In Use," add TV2 and TV3 and cable boxes 2 and 3
  6. Step back through the input selections
  7. On the "Please Review the Actions..." screen, "Add action for:" TV2 and TV3 to turn on (and the cable boxes if they are not always on)
.

Now, the remote is primarily going to control the main TV/cable box. So I would customize the side bar buttons with a few necessary functions for each of those TVs/cable boxes (eg, channel +/-), and maybe a button to switch the input on your receiver so that you can switch the sound to TV2/TV3 (if you're running your system like that).

Potential problems:
  • If your TVs are all the same brand, they might all have the same IR codes as well. If there's a way to set them to accept unique IR codes, you'll need to do that, which may require making the 1100 learn the codes instead of pulling them in automatically.
  • Same thing for the cable boxes. I know you can set Directv boxes up so that they don't run on the same IR codes, but if you can't do that, you'll end up controlling all 3 cable boxes every time you change the channel.

I am on my second 880 which I really like.
This second one lasted longer than the first.
I noticed some of the buttons I need to press longer or repeatedly to get a response out of it. Thinking a firmware update would help as its been probably two years since I updated it, I did a software & firmware update over the week end- but did not help.

SO - should I replace with a refurb 880 (& where is the best price?) or move to the 1100?
I have yet to see a screen shot of the display showing the numeric key pad and how many channel Icons can I get on one screen?

Thx

Just found this forum -- looks like TONS of good information that might come in handy.

I'm looking to buy an 1100 pretty soon (if I can find one in stock somewhere) but have a couple of questions.

All photos I see of the 1100 show a maximum of 6 icons on the screen. Is this the maximum on a single screen? Are there n-number of screens where multiple icons can be placed, accessing them through paging-down/paging-up? Is there an overall maximum number of icons a user can program into the unit? Last question (for this post, at least)... is adding icons pretty easy through the PC interface?

Any and all responses will be appreciated...

Six icons per screen, four screens max (24 icons) per Activity. If you need more icons, just create additional "Watch TV" activities.

I personally have two Activities - Watch HDTV (general stuff) and Watch HDTV Sports (all HD sports channels).

Just be careful if you have over twelve Activities, some weird things happen to the on-screen layouts. This has been discussed in this thread, many many pages ago. I added a bunch of Activities for a second system in the house (pushing me to 15 or 16 Activities total, IIRC), and the remote got screwed up bad with completely missing icons, the HELP key with a red banner, etc. Luckily everything went back ot normal after I deleted those recently-added Activities.

Numeric keypad - can't help you with a picture as we're away from the house this weekend, but it's the typical 4x3 matrix of buttons: 1 thru 0, with the PLUS and E in the bottom corners.

EDIT: I had used the 880 for years, then upgraded to the One on Day 1 release. Going to the 1100 a few months back was quite the change, but for the main AV system downstairs it is absolutely perfect. The RF blaster is perfect for controlling the IR dimmer switch we have installed, and the crazy customization will make any tweaker happy beyond belief. GO find a good deal and one and never look back!

I have a question for the 1100 owners who are using a projector. I will be buying a
Microsmith HLP Hot Link Pro because my receiver is is at an angle the remote will not reach it. I have a mitsubishi projector mounted on the ceiling about 4 feet behind my head. I want to set it up so I can press a button and the ps3, receiver, and my projector all turn on at once. Will this be possible?
I just picked up the 1100 from Best Buy. They price matched newegg.com for $299 so i'm pretty happy. I also got the bt adapter for the ps3. Does anyone know if they make a cup holder mount for ht seats?

Does your projector receive IR or RF commands? If RF, it shouldn't be a problem.
Remax, I use this cup holder mount for the 1100
http://www.amazon.com/Bracketron-UCH...8271375&sr=8-1

It fits perfectly with just enough space and a little breathing room to take in and out. The clamping portion which will hold the remote slides out, so if you want to grab the remote you can easily do so without removing it. Nice thick cushioning so danger of hurting the remote either.

Pics for your viewing.

BTW if the bounce of IR signal from your screen doesn't reach your projector (it likely will), then you will need to extend one of the Hot Links IR emitters to it.

*tl, the rf from the 1100 is only useful with RF extender which goes with the 1100. RF products mainly don't interact with products outside of their own design. The exception that I know of would be Z-wave products.
Ah, that makes sense. I don't use RF, so thanks for the clarification.

Thanks, just ordered it.

Sometimes my remote turns my pj on and other times it won't unless I point it right at it. I will keep messing with my stuff and see if I can get it working a little better.

Have you bought the Hot Link Pro yet? If you have you can extend one of the IR emitters with some CAT5 cable if you don't mind cutting and splicing and you perhaps have a way to hide the wire.

Your other option is to pick up an RF extender (they can be had pretty cheap from ebay)
One example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Logitech-RF-Exte...item335602db67

Simply program the 1100 to send RF to the projector and you can position the RF extender where it can easily blast the projector or place it on top of the projector with an emitter attached.

I just ordered the Hot Link from Amazon today so it should arrive Saturday or Monday. Thankfully before I finished my room I ran an hdmi, component, cat5, and a cat6 cable to the projector so I hope I can use the cat5 to blast the projector with ir. So I just cut the emitter and splice my cat5 in? I guess I will see once it comes in, but i'm having a hard time figuring out how to splice it. Are the emitter wires set up the same way as a cat 5 cable or is it different?

Hi guy's

Couple questions. When I use the hard buttons on the 1100 to control the volume or the channel up down keys the screen sometimes does not come on, the back lights work but the touch screen stays off... Is this normal? This happens when the control is lying down.

Also, I programed the round back key and the triangle option key for the PS3 to use it on the touch screen, but I can't get it to work. The hard return key works but the round key doesn't do anything when I press it on the screen. What am I going wrong?

Cheers,

Yes Remax, simply cut the emitter with enough wire length to easily attach the cat5 wire to. The emitter cable is probably similar to headphone cable. I would use a twisted pair for each side, so 2 of the twisted wires in the cat5 cable to each emitter wire. Good luck.

What are you using to control the ps3. I have the IR2BT and all of the onscreen commands work. You need to be certain that the device you are using has the proper commands learned to it.

I am using the Logitech Harmony 1100 with the logitech PS3 remote adapter. The O X icons on the touch screen are not working with the PS3 when i press on them(they don't do anything). Everything else works like a charm.
Seems strange ILKER. If you recently purchased the 2 units I would say to give support a shout and hopefully it's a simple fix. If not maybe try re-adding the device without deleting the 1st one. Sometimes there is more than one type of device in the database but since this is logitech's product I'm not sure.

Also go thru devices to see if the on screen commands work thru there, if they do then they are mapped incorrectly in the activity and you would to adjust button settings in the activity.

Thanks for the tip. It's not coming until Monday so I will mess with it then. I got the cup holder mount in and it works perfect. Thanks again for that.

Glad you like it. It works well for me to. I re-purpose mine when going on road trips to hold my droid phone for music and gps, so I get double the use.
I'm looking to get a 1100 because of my Nevo SL's lockup/repeating IR problem that I've been dealing with for years.

I've looked threw the manual and I want to know if you can have the clock icon on the bottom(or anywhere else) of the screen for every page? This basic feature is something I use everyday with my current remote.
Mak99 -

So then there is a virtual numeric screen ?
And how does one access it? Is there a hard button short cut?

Oh, not clear on the One - are you saying you like the One over the 880?
For me I like the 880 as it has more screen space and hard buttons on the left and right side.
sethm1,

When your in an activity that uses a numeric keypad, i.e. watch cable, there will be a soft button on the bottom left of the screen that will display 123. When you press that button it will bring you into the numeric keypad. Likewise, you go back to the cable DVR screen by hitting the upper left button which displays a play symbol.
^^ Exactly as oman describes. The four corners of the screen have the buttons for the four different subscreens. For each activity, you can make one of the four subscreens the default one that displays automatically.

For our setup, any "Watch DVD"-type activity (Blu-ray, HD DVD) has the transport subscreen be the default. For "Watch HDTV" activity, I have the favorite channel icons as the default subscreen.

And for really crazy customization, those eight (4x2) sidebar buttons can be programmed differently for each subscreen of an Activity, if desired.

The pic below (from a few months ago) shows a typical layout. Ignore the main section of the screen - this was when I was just starting the programming. I will upload my current screen layouts sometime this weekend so you can see the transport screen, numeric keypad screen, etc.

Hope this helps!

Overall, I preferred the One over the 880. Better screen resolution, separation between the keys, better shaped. Much easier to find the play/pause toggle switch on the One without looking. I do wish the One had the option to display six Activity buttons (3x2) and not just three (3x1). IIRC, the 880 let you choose between the two formats.
