It's true the harmony can't talk directly to your RF transceiver, but all you need is an IR-543 box and the harmony will work fine. The only caveat is that you have to be line-of-sight with that box since it's IR. From there, it sends commands via your power lines just like your RF transceiver module. So just make a new device for it. I don't have a dedicated activity set up for mine, but you could if you wanted. I do have X10 commands in several other activities and they work great.

At that point I would just suggest just switching to an Lutron IR light dimmer rather then attaching an additional box.

Let me get this straight. Of the options below, you'd go for #2?

Option 1: Plug in a $15 box about the size of a deck of cards that will allow you to control every device in your home automation system from your couch.

Option 2: Scrap your existing home automation system. Buy a $40 switch that you have to aim your remote at to control (probably pointing it behind your head, making activities very tricky). Find your fuse box and shut off the power to the switch, and wire in the new switch.

#1 seems a lot better to me.

mdavej, thanks for the link. I knew i couldn't hope for a straight game mode discrete code, and I also knew they wiped sequences out from the 1100... but luckily I got a very good piece of news from irdoc. So, I can actually program "sequences" but only at the start of an activity, right? That's enough for me! I will make something like: "Play in Game Mode" and maybe "Just Play"... in order the get everything set according to my needs. I guess that might take some time... I mean, to automatically go through the menu all the time... but it's something i should have done by hand anyway so, it's ok to me.

Thanks for the tips... probably I'll be back when I'll get the jewel on my hands!

cya

Ps: Sorry folks... can I ask you something? How do you evaluate my English? I'm Italian and I'm pretty curious to know if my speech sounds... somehow strange, or hopefully not. Thanks!

Setting up newly purchased Harmony 1100, and have run into couple of roadblocks. First, is there any way to control which devices are included in an activity? The setup wizard insists on adding my Media Center PC to my "Listen to Digital Music" activity, even though it is not part of my setup for this (I only need my Onkyo receiver for this). The "Devices in Use" window under the Remove tab has N/A listed and won't let me remove the PC.

Second, I have an HDMI switch with a remote in my system, and I can't seem to find a way of adding this as a device.

Thanks for any help!

1. basically it doesn't realize your onkyo can play digital music, so you should add something like an 'iPod' as a device (located under 'digital media server') and then when you create the activity manually (i.e. add activity, manual, listen to music, listen to digital music) you will be able to select the iPod and not the PC

2. HDMI switches are under AVR receiver, AV switch

So I have had the 1100 for a few days and everything was working great with no issues. I now have a big problem and I have completed many of the suggestions here and pretty much now at my wits end.

The issue is in my Apple TV as well as my PS3. The issue is in the XBR of the PS3 when I am scrolling left or right or up or down it will just go crazy and move all the way to the opposite end of the scroll bar. I guess you would call it the double hit issue, but this is far worse than that. The same issue occurs in the ATV when scrolling through movies, tv shows etc. I scroll to the next movie and it goes two over sometimes three or four. I have updated the repeats to 0 as well as increased the delay and tried various combinations. The funny thing is sometimes it works great other times its completely insane and seems to repeat the RF signal over and over. I don't have any of these issues on my Onkyo 886 (volume up or down) nor on the SA8300 while using the keypad to scroll through the guide. I am using the extender and have updated both it and the remote with the latest settings and after each of my troubleshooting sessions. Its almost as if the keypad itself is getting stuck as you can see the icon showing a command being sent, but the light staying present longer in certain cases. Most of the time the light is instantaneous and is just there a split second, but when having the issue, the RF icon doesn't disappear for at least a second perhaps two.

Again, I love the remote and when it works, its fantastic, but it's almost embarrassing when it doesn't.

Any suggestions, or is this a call to Logitech?

For dimming lights (X10 via IR-reciever), is it possible to send a "long" command? For instance like holding the dim-button for 6 seconds? Would be nice to get the correct dim-level when starting activities.

ummm I'm not sure exactly what command and/or setting it is but I do know there is some type of single, double hit and hold setting. This sounds like your problem when holding the button down, it is re-issuing the command over & over...

I dont think you can do it within the starting an activity other then setting it to on/off but it should allow for you to create and add a custom buttom to any screen within an activity. For example, the left menu bar within every activity I have configured the 3 buttons to be the lights On, Off & Favorites (being favorite setting of lights).

I would call support.

the 1100 is less than a year old, so you're under warranty
post #402 of 2025
may be some one can "help" me. Whenever i press the help button on the Harmony 1100 the screen freezes and i have to take the battery out and then everything is fine. Now when i say this happens everytime i mean every time. I did downloaded the firmware from the harmony web site again just in case but no change. a couple of things 1. the help button is really for my wife, and 2. you used to be able to recalibrate the 1000, some one at harmony cs suggested i recalibrate, i dont belive that is available. any helpat all is appreciated. thanks in adavnce.
there is a way to recalibrate the 1100 as well...but I honestly don't know how.

it sounds like you're hitting the help button, but it's not working properly...

recalibrating the screen would just be a way to make sure where you press = where the screen recognizes you pressed...I don't think that will help
post #404 of 2025
I just did this for 1100. Do this by first getting into safe mode (pull the battery out,
then press and hold the off key, then reinsert the battery; keep holding the off button until the unit comes up in safe mode. The screen will state so. Once in safe mode, repeat the process again. This time it will come up in recalibrate mode. It will ask you to press the screen in several places ... just follow directions on the screen. The most difficult part is to keep the battery from falling out while your holding the off key down.

Good Luck.

Hey guys just wanted some feed back I have MX 3000 remote now I'm thinking of selling it and using the money for a Harmony 1100 and a new Denon 3808 CI receiver. I was trying to get a remote that is easy to program. So my question do guys find the remote easy to program your self unlike the 3000 and how is the battery life on the remote. I appreciate the feedback.
mad easy
30-45 minutes for a hard setup

Could the issue be with proximity to the RF module and the fact I have hat channel in my walls (used to hang my drywall)?. The equipment is in a rack behind me in sort of ante room. When i move closer to the rack, but not line of sight (so I am still using RF) the issue mostly goes away. The still perplexing thing is no matter where I sit, I dont have issues with the pre amp nor the cable box.

The little light showing a communication is going out. It lasts longer in some instances than others. Is the remote getting feedback from the RF module? If not, why would the little light signifying a RF signal going out last longer in some instances with the exact same keystroke?

Again, when it works, fantastic, but scrolling the PS3 and the Apple TV is sort of hit or miss.

^^^
Sounds odd, the RF signal is very strong in my house and I can control everything in my HT room (as I learned by accident) even if I hit a button on the remote while on a completly different floor of the house.

Tom, is your theater walls built with hat channel? I need to find the time to call Logitech today, but work is crazy plus we have 4 month old twin girls that takes up a good bit of the evening.
4 month old twins? Are you running a baby monitor, if so that could definitely interfere with your signal.... BTW congrats

Thanks! They are quite a blessing. Actually that was my first point of elimination and testing and had the monitor cutoff and shut down. It made no affect on the issue and still persisted.

I absolutely love the remote, the layout, etc, but the scrolling "gone mad" issue is killing it for me. I hope to get it resolved as there is no way to be line of sight unless I get up and go to the back of the room and into the little ante room where the rack is....that kind of defeats and RF remote.
yeah, baby monitors and the old extenders work on the same/similar frequency
the blaster for the 900 operates on the ecnet protocol in the 2.4ghz range

100% not a baby monitor issue. Does the 1100 talk directly to the PS3 adapater via RF or does the PS3 adapter if out of line of sight need to have the blaster communicate with it? Seems like a basic question, but i have read some conflicting information on that point.
No the 1100 sends an RF signal to the Extender which converts it to IR signal that is sent to the PS3 adapter, the ps3 adapter converts it to blutooth to send to the actual ps3. So the answer is that it first goes to the extender and from there to the PS3 adapter.

With that said, I have my extender & ps3 adapter right next to each other on the back of my rack. It is close enough to each other that it doesnt actually need the wired transmitter running from the extender to the ps3 adapter
post #415 of 2025
the ps3 adapter is made to work with any harmony remote...therefore it only accepts ir, not rf

so if you want to control the ps3 adapter out of sight, you can place the ir blaster tip on the ps3 adapter or use a 3.5mm stereo cable (male to male), along with a 3.5mm stereo female to 2.5mm mono male adapter and connect the extender directly to the ps3 adapter

spent an hour with level 1 support yesterday and basically treated me like an idiot and had me repeat every step i had worked through the last week. I tried to explain i had already tried evertyhing they suggested, but insisted i do it again. Hopefully when someone from Level II support calls, they will have some tricks to get this working. Getting a little frustrating knowing how many people out there are using the same components with no issue.

I'm a long-time H1000 user who has struggled with the runaway volume keys problem, mostly on my Denon AVR-4806 receiver controlled through the RF extender. (Although back in the days before I fired Comcast in favor of D*, I used to run across the same problem with channel changing on a Motorola box from time to time.) My 1000 is now dying a slow death . . . flickering screen, myriad reboots . . . which I believe is related to the thing reaching the end of its useful life. Earlier than I would have expected or wanted, but it is what it is.

I came back to this thread to see if the runaway keys problem had been absolutely, positively solved for the 1100. If it hasn't, I'll think more seriously about another device. My general impression from the thread is "yes, it's gone--even for those using the RF extender, where most of the problems with the 1000 have centered." But then I read tghodge's report on his PS3 and Apple TV, which sure sound like the same problem. I would greatly appreciate any reports you might have, particularly those who have Denon AVRs and are using the H1100. (I have a PS3 but can probably live without controlling it with the H1100.)

I have used the new Denon 4310 as well as many of the newer Onkyo receivers with the 1100 and have never once had runaway volume issues.
Its possible my issue is related to my wall construction, but I cant be the only one that used hat channel to hang my drywall. I am only 10 feet or so from my mid atlantic rack, but its in a little ante room, so the signal has to go through the back wall (double drywall hing on metal hat channel). I hope level 2 support calls tonight/tomorrow, but right now the issue is very real for me. Perhaps I have a bad extender or a bad remote? Who knows, but I must say its pretty darn frustrating and this is my 4th harmony remote.

New 1100 owner... so far so good except one thing.

I've got this hooked up (or soon to be) to:
Mitsu HC6500 Projector
Denon AVR-4308ci
Denon DVD-2500BTCI Blu-ray
Xbox 360
Motorola Fios STB

via IR extender

I can not get the Denon Blu-Ray player to register ANY commands either by IR or RF.

Any ideas?

Also, should I just run one of my extender IR wires in the ceiling to my projector with a mini-plug extension cable?
