The Harmony 1100 Owner's Thread... - Page 33

I'm looking for a remote for my inlaws. All their gear is built into cupboards. They have a Pioneer plasma, Denon dvd, Denon reciever, Denon cd player (5 disk), Foxtell, HD set top box and another 2 channel amp to power speakers in another area of the house.

They control this set up with a very cheap, basic touch screen remote (not sure of the name) that uses little red "things" stuck on each component with another red "thing" that is visible outside of the built in furniture. This remote drives them mad because as soon as the batteries get even a little bit worn down the remote wont work and they have to get up and stand next to the gear to get it to work (plus the batteries are not rechargable).

Would the Harmony work in this situation or would they need to replace all the little red "things" and the box they are connected to?

I'm a complete NOOB when it come to remotes. I have my old trusty MX500 at home, but think an activity based remote would be a god send for my in laws, especially if it works properly!

Cheers

Nick

You are describing an IR receiver and flasher set up. Yes this should work with the 1100 or any other IR remote. The 1100 is also RF but requires a propietary RF extender which then converts the signal back to IR with emitters attached to the devices as you describe. You would only need this if you did not have a line of site to the equipment or the IR receiver which you mention. So you will be good to go.

Thanks for the advice oman.

I have searched guys, many times over. I've tried all the suggestions. I've tried setting my imac in 32 bit mode. I've turned off the firewall. And I've manually configured it in my network. I cannot get my Mac to connect with the Harmony Remote.

I also run VMware so I was hoping to connect that way but once again it just doesn't see the device.

Now I was able to do the set up via Windows on my wife's computer, but I can't believe that I can't pull this off on my Mac. Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Good afternoon all,

Before reading through this thread, I would like to say that I just ordered a new 1100 for an incredible price, and should get here on Monday (June 7th).

Are there any hints, or things I should/need to do before I dive into setting the remote up? Thanks much for any input.

My current set-up is...

Samsung HDTV
LG Blu-Ray DVD
Onkyo TX NR-807 Receiver
Pace cable box

Again, thanks for any comments, hints, etc...!

Yeah, don't try using a Mac for set up. Their software can't detect the device. Use Windows. Write down all your model numbers of your equipment so you can set it up properly. And then enjoy!

I had two pages of activities so far (12 activities) and everything worked fine but today I added seven more activities. I updated the remote and now the activities icons on pages 3 and 4 are in the wrong locations. Please have a look at the attached pictures. I tried to re-create some activities, as well as to re-update the remote several times, but to no avail. Any idea what is going on and how could this problem be fixed? Thank you.

Have you tried reordering your activities?

Yes, I did that, too, and I also updated the firmware. I also tried both on my Mac and PC. No change. I am getting desperate!...

I deleted the last seven activities and the icons for the first 12 looked okay. But when I add the 13th activity, it appears on the middle of the third page, instead of at the top. Why is this happening?...

If I contact support they will charge me US $29, correct? I am not happy about that!

in cases like this I can't see how they wouldn't refund you. If you're within a year, and it's not a problem possible to be solved without support, they refund the cost to you as far as I know
post #973 of 2025
their support is really good - i've never been charged and i've had out of warranty remotes replaced for free twice.

just be polite.

i have a question - i'm having trouble controlling the on screen menu in my pioneer 141 with the 1100.

i go to devices and can pull up the menu and use the 'move up' and 'move down' buttons, but the 'select' button doesn't do anything.

anyone know how to get to the next level of the menu?

Received my 1100 late yesterday afternoon. Let her charge up for 5 hours, then spent 20-30 minutes updating and setting up.. and bam. Works perfectly Love this remote. Wish I would have gotten one a year ago. lol

Today I'm diving into favorite channels etc.. thanks to everyone in this thread for questions/answers. Made things much easier.
I hope you enjoy the new remote, I am very pleased with mine. Initially I had a couple of issues but I was able to resolve them on my own and it has been flawless ever since. I use a cell phone holder which would normally goes in a car to hold my 1100 in my HT seats cupholder and it makes for easy placement and use of the remote. If interested here is a link on Amazon, great product for the cost. Good luck.

Wannabe Actuary, I actually wrote an e-mail to Logitech about the problem with the icons a few days ago and below is the response I received. It seems this is a known issue at Logitech.

"Dear Michael,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Universal Remote.

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with your Harmony Remote. We are aware of this issue and our engineers know about the issue you are experiencing. At this moment there is not exact time on when it will be fixed or when the next update will be released. We will inform you when this issue has been fixed.

For further information (FAQs, Forums, User Manuals, etc.) on customizing your Harmony remote,

1. Log into your Harmony software.
2. Click the “More Help” button in the Tip Center.

We hope that we were able to assist you in resolving this issue, however if you are still experiencing any difficulties with your Harmony Remote, please contact us again.

Regards,

Sanjay V
Harmony Technical Support"

I will post back as soon as Logitech has a solution to this problem.

I have an 1100 that I am using with a Time Warner HD cable/dvr. Everytime I go to the guide to scroll up or down...the guide races up or down 30 or 40 channels eventho' I have barely tapped on the touchscreen. All else is okay.

Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.

if you're using a scientific atlanta explorer 8XXXHD model, try adjusting the delays to:

power on: 1500
inter-key: 100
inter-device: 500

then go to devices > pvr > troubleshoot > [pvr] responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally > 3

update your remote and see if that helps.
The 1100 is VERY primitive and WAY overpriced IMO.

Think about the power, design, OS, interface and hardware offered with the iPad for a moment. Forget the actual fact the iPad doesnt "do" what the 1100 does in terms of set up etc, but the fact of the matter is I have seen "apps" more diverse than harmony, and the iPad trumps the 1100 in terms of design, hardware, software etc etc etc. So why is the 1100 almost the same price?!

In Canada the ipad is $549 and the 1100 is $449 (without RF extender). Can you believe that? IMO the 1100 should be priced at about $150-$200 max!

Anyway, im just posting this because in order for Logitech to capture future business and faith they need to come out with better value. Perhaps they can just make a Harmony app?

Harmony needs to get with it and start offering some serious value. At this point my blackberry has more power, options and ability.

First, thanks to everyone for posting great tips and troubleshooting tips for this remote. I recently purchased an 1100 to replace my current One, but still within my return period in case I find any fatal flaws...

Question on "Watch DVD"-type activities: I have set up two for both my HD DVD (Toshiba XA2) and Blu-ray (Oppo 83) players. Under the "circle" subscreen during the programming, the main (center) display area has default options for "Next Disc, Disc 1, Disc 2,...Disc 6". I don't see any way to change these to anything else. See the pic below for my screenshot:

These choices seem pretty worthless since both of these players are NOT multi-disc players. Note that the pic above is specifically from the "Watch Blu-ray" activity; the "Watch HD DVD" activity is the same. After updating the remote, the seven buttons do show up, but are greyed out since they had not been assigned by me.

To troubleshoot, I assigned the "Next Disc" button as the BDP angle button. After another quick update, that button was the only one of the seven that was now active, but the button label still read "Next Disc". See the below pic for the change:

Again, mostly worthless for trying to assign these buttons as anything useful.

So - am I missing something here regarding the default multi-disc commands for a single-disc player???

I am running the latest software (7.7.0), and have updated the firmware to 7.6. My computer is running Win7 Pro. I just ran thru the firmware update again this morning, and got the "Firmware Update Successful" message on the 1100's display.

Don't get me wrong about the above gripe - I think the 1100 is a nice remote overall, though it'll take getting used to not having hard transport buttons like the One. And since I already own the RF extender that I bought some time ago with an 890 Pro (both still NIB), the 1100 would allow me to remotely locate my AV gear in an adjacent storage room, whenever that project might happen...

HEY, LOGITECH!!
Here's a nifty idea: When programming the four subscreen layouts, it seems like most people (like myself) want to have the left and right sidebars be the same for all four subscreens for a particular Activity. How about adding a toggle button for making this an option so we don't have to edit all four sets of sidebars to be the same? See pic below as an example:

Just my two cents...
mak99,
I don't think you're missing anything...my BR player is also a single disc, but I never even bothered to touch the disc subscreen. I made the default subscreen for the activity the 'transport' screen (with play/pause, etc...)...

I'm with you on the sidebars...within each of my activities has the same side bar commands on every subscreen...it was annoying, but it was only once that you have to go through the (more than necessary) setup
post #982 of 2025
W/A - thanks for the reply. Like you, I have the transport subscreen as the default for my Watch BD/HD DVD activities. It would just have been nice if this other subscreen was a bit more customizable.

And if you still have some influence over at Logitech, feel free to pass along my suggestion on the default subscreen checkboxes!

BTW, what ever became of the issue of the high-pitched noise when the 1100 was charging in the docking station? My unit seems to do this, though it appears to stop when the battery might be fully charged.

BTW x2, what other forum (besides AVS) would you suggest for the 1100? This thread doesn't seem too active at the moment...
how have u guys overcome the problem on the 1100 to view the HD TimeWarnerCable box guide but the guide zooms by 30-40 channels even though you only depress the key up or down 1 push ?

Hey guys,
I was wondering can i use an ir repeater with the 1100 to control my devices behind an a/v cabinet ? Or do i have to use the rf extender by Logitech ? I was wondering because i know the 1100 is an ir remote.

thanks in advance for your response.
Disregard my question about the ir repeater. I answered my very own question. Please excuse my stupidity i am running on 3 hrs of sleep due to
my water heater bursting at 4am this morning.

yeah, they basically want you to use the "Star" screen for your extra commands

my influence is gone at Logitech....the one contact I had that had a say was let go a while ago...my beta testing contact repeatedly gets told that we're just to beta test the hardware...we're not meant to provide feedback on the software....which is dumb, since they go hand in hand

other forums...sorry, I don't really have any suggestions there.
W/A - thanks again.

BTW, if I win the lotto and start up my own remote control company, you and squareyes would be hearing from me..

Hi,

I just wanted to make you aware of my experience and what would happen once you create more than 12 activities. You might end up like so:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post18736677

I contacted Logitech and they informed me that their engineering department was aware of the issue but there would be no solution in sight:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post18760383

Therefore, you will be fine if you need fewer than 12 activities but, in a case like mine (I definitely need more), the Harmony 1100 does not perform properly. It has been a month now since I contacted Logitech but nothing happened. I paid CAD $450 for, for the time being, a sub-par universal remote that is now beyond the return period.

Yep, I saw your posting on this - sorry that you are not getting satisfaction from Logitech on a fix. Right now I only have six activities, and will be very surprised if I even max out at twelve in the future. Of course, who knows what gear we might add in the future (Xbox, Media Server, etc) to this main system...

BUT - I do appreciate you pointing this glitch out again...thanks!

I'm pretty excited. I just picked up one of these!
