No digital 5.1, 12.1, etc... why?

Bought a Sylvania 32" for the bedroom today from Target for a great price. I'm brand new to HDTV, flat panels and stuff, and just got my first LCD TV last weekend, and here's what's currently raising a question...

I have Expanded Basic from Comcast and my new Sharp L52D85U receives all the channels I have always received, plus a few digital channels like 5.1, 5.2, 12.1, 12.2, plus a few more. The Sylvania I got today doesn't receive the 5.1, 5.2, etc. Why? Is there a feature or tuner or something missing from the Sylvania?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way... great board here... much of the data goes over my head, but I'm sure I'll understand more and more with each passing day. I've just got to keep reading. Is there any resources for learning this stuff? Other than constantly posting newbie questions?

In the manual, probably under a heading called out as specifications, take a look and see what type of tuner is listed. If it's just ntsc, and not atsc and qam, then it won't tune digital channels, either through cable or an antenna.

I thought all TVs sold since last autumn sometime (Oct 1 maybe) had to have both tuners. I'm guessing it's because the tuner on the cheaper Sylvania is less sensitive than the one on the more expensive Sharp.

As a general rule, cheap cars don't run as fast as expensive ones.

I believe the rule was to include an ATSC (8VSB) over air tuner. So the sylvania may have one, but not be qam capable.

My expectations are molded by the price I pay, or rather, the price I did not pay. So if I can't get the minor channels on this Sylvania... I'll try the 37" Dynex for just $1.00 more...

FYI

Just because I'm a night owl with nothing better to do, I just checked out Target's site. There are a couple of Sylvania 32" models. One has an integrated DVD player, the other does not. In the specifications they list QAM for the the model without the integrated DVD player, but not for the integrated model. The same holds true for the two 37" models.
