I have the same situation and was wondering the same thing

For a platform to be used as an effective bass trap it must be to both side walls and the rear wall.

Im kind of newbie to all of this so please forgive my rookie question but how did you get such a clean edge on your vertical GOM fabric covers on your soffit? does anyone know of a link that shows all the installation tricks of using GOM.

Why is that?


Also, what is the relationship between the floor register opening and the frequencies damped? Is a single 10"x4" register sufficient for most bass frequencies or would a 8"x2' register work significantly better?

If the platform extends the width of the room and goes to the rear wall, the platform is positioned to be within the areas where modal frequencies are peaking (low velocity/high pressure). With proper design of the seating platform, 4x24, 4x36 floor registers (bar diffusors) can be used. By properly designed I mean the following has been accounted for in the construction of the platform:

1. Fiberglass insulation has been installed in the cavities of the platform;
2. The areas (very near the wall) under the platform have been framed with sufficient volume to do some good.

Dennis I am taking your advice and building my platform wall to wall and all the way to the back wall.

I will have enough opening along the back and was thinking about putting registers along the side walls as well. Do you think that this would be a benefit to the room?

I was also thinking about opening the front of the platform as well if this would help.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I'd like to know how I could put some leftover R19 unfaced pink insulation bats to good use as bass traps. I have 2' of depth behind my screen wall, so size and looks aren't necessarily an issue. If I did something floor to ceiling in both corners, I would have 4 tri-corners trapped. My room dimensions are roughly 19'x14.5'x8'. If I left the insulation in it's plastic bag (about 20" in diam, 4' tall) and positioned in the corner, would it effectively trap bass ?

That's exactly what I did in my theater, which was based off of one of the audio experts recommendation (can't remember which one at the moment).
