Gear:

Sony KDL-46XBR4
Onkyo TX-SR876
Sony Playstation 3
APC H15 Power Conditioner
Aperion 5B Bookshelves (L-R)
Aperion 5C Center
Aperion 4B Surrounds
Aperion 12D Sub
Logitech Harmony One

Pics:

Excuse the lighting...snapped them quickly before work this morning. My whole place is almost all concrete, so running cables is a little wonky. The last picture is my attempt to remedy the solution, and still have a somewhat clean appearance. It works for me.

I spent quite a bit of time on here researching and reading opinions of things before making my decisions. I really can't thank this group enough for the work they put into this community. I'm a "one big home theater upgrade every 7 or 8 years" guy, so I don't think I'll be upgrading as much as you guys, but I thought you'd like to see what your efforts on here have produced for a relative rookie to all of this.

Thanks again to everyone!

Nice looking setup and fantastic view out the window. Is that a cable or Sat DVR under the APC? If so, you might check the heat output and perhaps swith them i.e. put the APC on bottom. I have a Sat DVR that gets very hot so I don't have anything on top of it. Actually, I even placed a laptop cooling pad (turned upside down) on top of the DVR to help keep it cool.

Nice set-up. Have you had a chance to listen to music, or watch blu-rays on your new purchase? Yeah, the upgrade bug. I think I may be done now-who knows? The Aperions have not disappointed me yet with music/movies. Probably will be my last speaker purchase. You may upgrade though down the road, if you get a bigger listening area. I highly recommend the new 6 series. Enjoy your new Home Theatre. When you watch the spider man movies you probably think you are right in the middle of the action-all the buildings around you.

The view gets even better to the right of what you see. Soldier Field, Lake Michigan...definitely happy with the location.

I have Comcast (UGH) cable, as there was no place for a dish anywhere. The H15 is only about half the depth of the DVR box, so there's plenty of room for the heat to escape, and it wouldn't sit the other way around anyway, honestly. Had that set up that way for a couple of weeks, and no issues to speak of. I have a small fan running in the back, so it dissipates much of the heat anyway.

Yup...played a little music when I first got everything, and watched Kung Fu Panda last night. I thought I was gonna jump out of my chair when fist hit table in the first couple of minutes. This setup is definitely sick. Will still be a bit before I have it tuned completely, but that's half the fun.

Thanks, guys!

South Loop is correct...I'm at 14th and State.

Roger, Just curious, what speakers were you using before the upgrade?

Thanks, guys!

Try all channel Stereo on a couple of songs with that Onkyo and Aperion setup....And get back with me. Nothing like a pair of Aperion 5B's, 4B's, 5C and Sub blasting all channel stereo right into the sweet spot! Flawless!

Awesome set up, nice gear.

That apartment/room has a lot of potential. I'd ditch the green couch though, that thing is hideous

A Bose Acoustimass setup. I don't apologize for it, though. Bose is excellent at marketing, so for those who lived in ignorance before now, it's tough not to think that they're high-quality. You don't know what you don't know...ya know?

The only way I would feel ashamed is if I knew what I knew now, and STILL thought it was great. There's no comparison, though.

LOL...it's ridiculously comfortable, so it's tough to get rid of. And the cat likes it. I've had that couch/chair for about 12 years. But I, like most, prioritize tech gear over furniture when making the budget. Eventually, though, I definitely will.

I'm with ya, man. The clarity and headroom is pretty astounding on such small speakers.

Roger, do you happen to have a cat? I noticed what appears to be cat toys in pic #3 > red and blue yarn balls?

Ha! Very astute. You can also see her little jungle gym thing in the top right of pic #1, too.

that room must echo like crazy??????

Looks very nice. Maybe some stands for the rears and a sonosuede HT pack couldnt hurt. Very clean and simple. Im all about that. Great choice in gear.

LOL...wondered if anyone would catch that. I didn't until after I snapped the pic. It's actually a hilarious book. Definitely a coffee table book that everyone gets the urge to pick up, which is kinda the point.

Surprisingly, it doesn't. When there's no furniture in it, it definitely does, but once you get stuff in there, the room deadens pretty well. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but it's true.

I haven't found rear stands that I like, particularly ones that raise the speakers up to "above ear" level. I saw someone on here that used weighted Rubbermaid containers with regular stands, so I may do that. That stands that Aperion sells for the 4Bs are pretty low-rated, so I'm gonna see if they replace them and what with.

I really want to do some sound treatments, but A) I can't drill into the walls, and B) the more I read about acoustically treating a room, the more it confuses me. It sounds surprisingly good without it, so I'm hesitant to mess with it much.

I really like the set up alot!

Nice setup. What make are those bookshelf stands?
Nice setup! When I looked in that building the first thing I thought about was how would I hide/ organize the cables. Nice solution.

Very nice set up, looks like you have one hell of a view every morning.

I appreciate it. Stands are the i29's that you can get from Aperion's site.

5B's just screw right onto the top of them. They're heavier and sturdier than I expected, and have cable management built right in. I like 'em.

Thanks, brother. I'm not one for really caring about looks as much as sound, but I knew if I was going to be posting here, I had to do SOMETHING. LOL

Nice job on your setup I like the clean look, good job on hiding the wires. I'm sure you have some binoculars too for your view out the window! haha.

Thanks to everyone for their compliments. Considering some of the amazing setups people have here, I'm truly flattered.

Very nice setup Roger! I really like everything about it.. you have managed a very clean and classy look. Those Aperion's look fantastic in the piano finish

If you ever consider room treatments i would suggest look into Gik acoustics.. they have some really affordable products and im planning to go that route myself soon.
Awesome Roger.. We have almost identical setup instead I have the S12 sub and the 422's as surrounds.

Nice indeed.

Really appreciate it. It's tough to describe how great they look in person. Pictures do them no justice.
