Digital Channel Listings

Thread Starter
I did a search and followed a few posts, but I couldn't find something... could just be that my search strings sucked...

I just got a new HDTV and am perusing the digital channels such as
xxx.xx or yyy-yy (with a dash or dot), and I am curious how you get a listing of what is on those channels. I have Comcast Digital cable service and their listings don't cover the channels that I'm looking at

... so I end up hitting channel up a buttload just to manually scan through these channels.

Forgive me if this is a repost... followed by helping me out with a link?

You can also check these websites, to see what channels are available in your area:

TV Fool

as well as this one:

Antenna Web

Those two sites are mostly for helping aim your antenna, as well info on selecting the correct antenna to make sure you are receiving everything available. It lists:

(1) What channels are available

(2) What direction the channels are from your location (compass settings)

(3) How far away they are from your location

Usually inaccurate.

I think the OP may be asking about program listings as opposed to a list of receivable stations in which case he could go here:

Those are for OTA. He's on cable.

Booleys, check the thread for your area in the "Local HDTV Info & Reception" forum here to see if anyone has posted a list of "clear QAM" channels for your cable provider in your area recently. If not, ask if anyone knows.

Most of those channels are probably HD versions of your local broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, etc.), but they're on different channels (QAM channel numbers) than you would expect from the OTA channel number or the re-mapped channel number you see on a cable box.

If the OP is asking about XXX.XX or YYY-YY those are OTA, not cable.

Unless it's QAM cable.

Enter your area code and select your cable company.

Basically, there is no public, authoritative, continually updated source for the mapping cable system QAM channels to the networks presented on them. Generally, that mapping is communicated to host devices (televisions, DVRs) from the cable head-end, directly, if the host device is capable of receiving such communications. If your host device is not capable, then you'll just have to keep track of those things yourself, using unofficial, often-inaccurate sources online as you wish.
