You guys got me nervous so I ebayed another A30 from 2nd Turn. Got it today and it works fine. It came without a remote or power cord and the case is a little dinged up but well worth it at $37 delivered. Complete units auction for about $50-60 depending on the number of bids. There was only one other bid on mine.
I actually sold my two A2s right before the Warner announcement. I suspected the end was near for HD DVD. I still have my XA2. When it dies, no time soon I hope, there are tons of players for sale on FleaBay, Craigslist...
I don't have any true "spares" as they're all in use. Instead I just have HD-DVD players everywhere, probably more than I need.
A3 for the family room TV
A3 for a bedroom
Onkyo 805 in the basement for the home theater
X-BOX drive for the gaming TV
HD-DVD drive for the HTPC
HD-DVD drive the the PC in the den
When Toshiba bailed out, I only owned a single A3 - it was one of the late October 2007 specials for $99. I bought all of the other players for very cheap, and only did it so I'd be sure to have at least one functional player for a long time to come.
XA2 in theater
A3 in bedroom
BH200 in guest room
A3 on loan to a friend (will get it back in a couple weeks)
A1 as backup
And if the Eagles ever release "Live from Melbourne" on BD, I'll probably take an A3 back from a customer who I talked into buying it in November of '07. That was a little embarrassing ... and I'll probably just swap the least expensive Panasonic BD unit for him. Costly ... but it's my duty.
