I want to play a blu-ray player on my Infocus X1 projector which only accepts component. What would be the best way to output blu-ray to component and what would be the best resoution I can get out of it?

1080i if your projector can display it.
HDMI will give you 1080P.
Component maxes out at 1080i.

So can I directly get component output from the blu-ray player? or do i have to use some sort of a hdmi to component converter? thanks.

There may be an exception, but most players should have the downgraded connections available as an option. On my Sony, I have HDMI, component & even S-video/RCA.

Infocus X1 only accepts up to 1080i anyway. All the Blu Ray players I've seen have component video out so you should be fine.

Make sure you have this adapter.

My buddy used to have this projector so I know it works fine with component video at 1080i.

Note that you will NOT get DVD upscaling over component.
