Looking for an amp...or two or four...

Need to power 3 JTR Triple 8's, and 4 Slanted 8's in dedicated HT. The Sub is taken care of.

So far the options are:

Emotiva XPA series

Face Titanium series

QSC DCA series

D-Sonic Magnum 2500-7

I have heard good and bad about all of them. I just want to make sure there's nothing else i'm over looking before i pull the trigger on one of them. Any thoughts, comments, or ball kicking would be much appreciated.

I originally had posted links to all but i dont meet post req. yet... That will change very soon.

I'd also add to the list Emotiva's MPS-2 and Outlaw's Model 7700 if you want a single chassis setup solution.

I have the Emotiva UPA-7 and am very happy with the quality of build and sound. With a 30 day no questions return policy from Emotiva and Outlaw, its hard to beat the prices of either.

I looked at the digital power amps but decided on the classic A/B amp. I guess I'm traditional when it comes to powering speakers. YMMV of course.

Good luck on your search. Post often and tell us what you find.

You may want to post questions to the Emotiva thread to Emo X series amps to get ideas and suggestions for your needs.

You may want to post information about your speaker specs. Makes it easier than searching the web to get that info.

I have plenty of room for multiple amps so chassis size is not an issue. I do

appreciate the recommendation for the MPS-2, i think thats the one that got

me turned on to Emotiva. I do like the 30 day policy, Face has that as well i

believe. I just dont want to end up with 14 amps and a bunch of RMA's to fill

out . Speaker specs are as follows:

Frequency +/-3db
80-20khz

Sensitivity*
95db

Useable Output **
123db

Recommended Amplification
up to 600 watts

Impedance
4 ohm

Dimensions
28"x12"x12"

Weight
58lbs

Construction
15mm Birch (24mm baffle)
Exterior Finish
Line-X coating
Connectors
Dual Speakon
Warranty
1 year Manufacturer defect

*1 watt (2v) at 1 meter in full space
**Obtainable output with maximum recommended amplification

I'm gonna go check out the X series thread you linked. The search continues!

Your speakers aren't too hard to drive so I would guess mono blocks won't be required. Listening habits would be what determines how much power you require, but as we all know, more is better.

For me the one amp solution is all I could consider, both because of room size and available power without having to rewire the LR. I may trade up to the MPS-2 somewhere down the road if I switch speakers but they are easy to drive 8 ohm loads, the surrounds are 4 ohm Emotiva ERD-1, just orderer, I should get them next week sometime.

Another place you may want to check out is the Emotiva Lounge. You'll find mostly fans of Emotiva, but I guess I'm one as well. I like what works and mine works quite well. Heres the link. Register and ask all the questions you like:

EDIT:

Oh, and heres the thread on Outlaw amps:

Not sure how much money you are willing spend, your choices seem to have it all over the map, I have a D-Sonic 2000-5, the IcePower sounds downright perfect to me and I also prefer the cool efficient nature of the this amp its hardly even warm to the touch, and best of all no fan noise. I also have a Rotel 1095, and although it sounds just fine to me, that thing gets so hot in my cabinet. that amp is being replaced in a week with a Wyred4Sound Class D amp like the D-sonic.

I am a huge advocate for Class D, but I also own Pro-Amps which sound very very good and offer tons of power for anyones needs, but I hate the fan noise.

You should have a read in this thread, which covers that whole thought process as to why don't more people use pro amps. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1112626

Yamaha makes a great pro amp and in normal home use the fans don't even come on...

The lower powered class D amps have less fan noise. I don't think the average home user needs 500wpc or more. Not that they won't buy em, but how many speakers can actually utilize that much power?

Can anyone recommend a multi channel class D amp with 'reasonable' power levels? Like 200wpc x5 or x7. I haven't seen any traipsing around ebay.

The amp budget is $4000 per the CFO. Thanks for the link Warp i'll check it

out. Knuckle i believe Dennis at D-sonic will more-or-less make you what ever it

is your looking for, i.e. 200w x 3, 150w x 4 in a 7 channel amp. At least thats

what i gathered from the info on his site. Couple other things i forgot to

mention is that all the equipment is in another room of its own, so noise is no

biggie. My ssp or pre/pro whatever you wanna call it is the Integra DTC 9.8.

Knucklehead90, check out the Wyred 4 Sound multichannel Class D amps. They can configure one pretty much any way you'd want it and for a great price. They have a thread here on AVS Forum in the Amps section.

For less money D-Sonic will offer the same thing as Wyred4Sound, whether or not there is a sonic difference will remain to be seen. I will know soon enough, but I love my D-Sonic, and I can only imagine the Wyred will be just as good or better.....

If money is no object, I prefer to have all my power bundled up into a nice neet package then all those pro amps stacked up, running seperately, and also lets not forget the occasional ground loop hums or the worst yet... having to deal with switching all the amps on through a 12v trigger, which they don't have. These are just things to think about, not that they can't be overcome, they can but just a bit more effort is required.

Hey Mike, where abouts are you in Wisconsin.... I'm just north of Milwaukee and have a Subwoofer shootout coming up at the end of the month if your interested in checking some things out...

Warp im near Milwaukee as well. Im in North Prairie its near East Troy/ Alpine Valley. Warp what do you power with your pro amps? Subs only? You a music or HT guy? If HT could you list your setup? A sub shootout you say...hehehee today is the end of the month, unless you mean Feb.?

HAHA Mercury!! That was the amp that was used during my audition of the

Triple 8's. Im not sure which model it was all i could make out was the

"citation" on the front of it. It sounded great, but like you say it's hard to find

one. Is there anything you could compare the "citation" to sonically? I did

notice a bit of hiss during the quiet moments in the movie, but this could have

been several things, not necessarily the amp.
