Where can you get Gyro meat locally?

Most people get it locally. Of course that depends on where you live.

After a 3 week trip to Greece a few years back for some reason I can't stand to eat gyro meat anymore. Or lamb for that matter. I used to like it.

Greece is the wrong place to get it, try Germany. catered more towards americans and really delicious. Donor Kebab!!!

Oh man, Whole Foods Rock! I just pigged out on their smoked bbq bar last week. I'll have to search out the Gyro while I'm here visiting.

I remember a couple years ago I bought a box of the stuff in the supermarket. It wasn't half bad. And this was in Canada, so if it's in Canada it should be everywhere in the U.S.

call the company that makes it, call 1-800-621-0099 and ask where its sold in your area.

I buy my gyro meat from GFS (Gordon Food Service). They are a food service that primarily caters to restaurants and institutions, but they have retail markets that are open to the public. Here's the store locator: http://gfs.know-where.com/gfs/

They have a large selection of gyro meat: Chicken, Athenian, Chicago, Olympic, etc. They also have a very good tzatziki sauce.

Try a local butcher shop. You would be surprised what you can get there. It will be better quality for sure and is usually at a better price then the supermarket.

People have gotten so used to going to large chains for everything that they have forgotten about the ways our parents and grandparents bought things before large corporations stepped in.

Now I’m almost tempted to spend a £4.00 pounds on Kebab tonight.

If anyone has found it, can you let me know where in the store, what section? and if it was a package kit, just the meat, frozen?

I'm in southern jersey near philly. I've been to acme, shoprite, wegmans, aldi, whole foods, and trader joe and havent found gyro kits, gyro meat, or even tzatziki sauce. I'm even considering buying online, but it would prob be $20 for 1lb with shipping, seems kinda steep

their cheapest package is 1lb (22 slices), for $8 + approx $10 shipping for 2day.

I assume this stuff can freeze ok so I could get a bigger package

Add the price of the pita, sauce, etc, its prob a little over $4/gyro. $3/gyro if you got a bigger package. Seems pricey, but prob half the price of what you would get from a restaurant. They probably get their meat from the same place.

well the place I looked at allows you to do 2day. They say they will only guarantee overnight, but say the ice should last 48hrs. so about $60 for 5lb so it would be about $2.50/gyro for just the meat They also sell uncooked loaf, about $50 for 5lb

Even if it was $80 for 5lb, thats about $4/gyro. You add the cost for the pita, and sauce, its prob around $5. The last place I saw that sells cooked gyros was some pizza place and it was about $7. so I guess the price isnt THAT bad. Its too bad no stores have this stuff

They ship from around chicago I think, makes sense, I think that is where they originated (in the US).

I was just thinking of costco as I have a membership there and its the only place I can think of that I havent looked.

Its still pretty cold around here. If their claim that the ice packs lasts 48hours then I think I should be ok. I think all fedex packages fly to memphis overnight, then out to their destination, so if I ship two day, it will prob spend the most time in the midwest or here, both cold places.

I dont feel like buying 5 pounds, who knows how it tastes. I'll prob just place an order for 1lb.

I assume that you are being sarcastic because I bought a Gyro kit at an Aldi in Baltimore City a couple of weeks ago. When I went back they were gone, but like Sideshow Bob, they'll be back. When I see them again, I will buy more than one.

There are a lot of Somali's around here and shops that sell Camel meat, I would bet they sell "Gyro meat."

I love that stuff, just don't tell me what it's made out of.

I got some at Sprouts market in my area, not sure if they're regional or national.

My local grocery store used to sell 1 pound packages, but they didn't sell enough to keep it, so now I have to buy the kits.
