Which PQ is better, LCD or rear projection unit?

Eh, get a good DLP and don't worry about it. In sizes that large, if you are concerned about cost then LCD and plasma aren't the way to go.

A properly calibrated DLP will meet or exceed almost every LCD or PDP in PQ. The downsides are viewing angle, size and potential geometry issues and more and more availability. I am a big fan of the Sammy LED light engined a750 series and would highly recommend the HL67A750 and the prices are incredible, just don't wait long as Samsung is out of the RPTV game. I much prefer them to the Mits (I have always been a Mits CRT RPTV fan but not their current DLPs) but if you wait OR need something bigger than 67" then Mits is the only game in town, but even then properly calibrated they can be very close to the best of the flat panel options.

No. Samsung is apparently leaving the business of DLP RPTV and Mitsubishi is going with laser backlighting. (Look up the associated threads on their LaserView product. Very expensive so far and limited to maybe non-existent availability presently, last I heard...)

(I much prefer DLP to LCD viewing angles myself and of course the larger screen...)

I have no specific knowledge about the Toshiba. I think some people would still stand by CRT rear projection for its black levels and dynamic range, though my own familiarity with CRT is limited to direct view displays...

I was watching this tv in torch mode at bb. I love the pic even more than the 61 inch led dont know why but some people on the forum claim the bulb looks better than the led.

anyway I bought an lcd 52a630 and used the calibration thread to set it up and got it close to the plasma's I saw today at bb but not like the elite.

the dlp has a cinematic look and is great but loses a lot off axis. the reason I went lcd rather than a new dlp (I had the 50 inch samsung form 3 generations ago) is that I wanted the option of haning on the wall if i want and it is going into a room where there is a bay window facing it which used to fade the dlp during the day.

For the price the dlp is a steal because you need a large screen.
