I Don't Want To See Your Can (lighting)

There are so many excellent light fixtures that don't require ceiling can holes in your ceiling. We get asked about this daily. I thought maybe I'd ask you guys for pics.

This thread is a winner.

OTOH, I wouldn't mind seeing non-can light fixtures.

My first thought was to wonder why Ted was so familiar with what Art's can looked like, but I decided not to go there...

Anyway, on topic, I've attached a picture of my theater that (barely) shows some of the lighting I'm using. I have a black fabric ceiling and put in two rows of black track lighting on the ceiling.

I've espoused the use of track lighting in several threads because I think it is great for a theater. I didn't have to cut holes in my DD/GG ceiling, and I didn't have to build fancy boxes around the lights. The black-on-black blends into the ceiling and I love having a narrow-beam, directable light source so that I can have light at the seating area but not wash out the screen.

Kevin, that's really great. If you ever have an opportunity to get a shot of those lights in better lighting, I'll send you a Twinkie. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you.

As far as Art's can, the Hometheater Enthusiasts of Michigan (HEMI) group is very close...

I'll play,

This was a brain fart I had on how to shine a little light on my marquee. It is two 4 ft LED strip lights from IKEA mounted in a strip of molding that I notched to hold the strip at an angle.

Of course there are the fifty 11 watt theater marquee bulbs underneath:

under-construction:

LED rope light under the bar:

and turn them all on:

Guess I need to take a pic with the cans off to make Ted Happy.

Some one ought to post their star ceiling. . . .

For track lighting, not my theater to post, but DKaps has the best example that I can think of:

I've always been impressed with this company's selection of 400 styles of paint-able ceramic wall sconces. Some AVS builder painted this deco looking sconce with Behr metallic gold and silver paint at it was great looking. Can't remember who.
