Just found this

https://ssl.dvdcrave.com/products/product.jsp?pid=47539

according to dvdcrave it's the extended version, but that's the only site calling it that.
Weird??!!

Interesting. I may take the risk in ordering it, but someone else will probably be able to confirm it in a more timely manner.

EDIT: JB Hi-Fi is also calling it the extended edition. This is looking good so far.

Neat, but I'll stick with my US version rahter than importing it, as that would be 4th time that I have bought this movie.

I am so going to import this!

Amazon.com is showing the running time of this film as 124 minutes and the extended version as 140 minutes.
Yes, the extended version should run approximately 140 minutes.

Doing a little bit of research, I found out that Australia is getting a 2-disc DVD release of the extended version on the same day. Meanwhile, the upcoming Sony UK Blu-ray release appears to merely be the theatrical cut.

Anyway, a search shows many sites listing Sony's Australian release as the extended version. They seem to list the runtime of the theatrical cut, but that is a common mistake. A couple of sites list “Over 15 minutes of additional footage edited back into the movie” as a special feature. It appears to truly be the extended version.

I hope they improve the transfer...

I hope they fix the costuming and the production design. Then the story.
Why in the hell does it look like it came from the early 90s?

I don't mind the action sequences from the 90s, but the costuming and haircuts are just terrible. And wow a bad guy who might be into...(I guess that would be a spoiler). How cutting edge. The worst part is that the score doesn't fit the movie at all.

This movie is saved by Ben Foster, his is without a doubt the best young actor in hollywood right now. He's one of those subtle Johnny Depp types, where you don't really notice them because every performance is so solid.

The Punisher already had some pacing problems, they would need to recut it if they plan on adding in any extra footage. Bah, this movie could have been so much better with just a few tweaks during production.

I agree with much of what you're saying, but it's a film that I find fun to watch after making a concerted effort not to over-analyze. I certainly think that it's a much better movie than Punisher: War Zone.

In my opinion, the additional scenes bring a good amount of cohesion to the story that was gravely lacking in the theatrical cut.

I preordered this a month ago on Amazon.co.uk, and it has yet to ship. Says "Usually dispatched within 5 to 9 days.", so I guess they didn't get many copies in.

If anyone gets this, please post impressions of the transfer.

Amazon doesn't seem aware of this, my estimated dispatch date was yesterday.

A fancy bit of time travelling required there...
There's an advert for it in the new Empire magazine. Date of release given is 9th Feb. Not one store where I am have it early, not even Gamestop, who always receive a plentiful supply of Sony catalogue titles.

How likely is it that the UK and Australia would be getting completely different cuts of the movie on Blu -- and on the same release day, no less?
I had both versions on DVD a while back, and much preferred the tighter theatrical cut of the film - the extended cut was too meandering and had a rather silly 'denouement' regarding one of the characters who has a lot more story put back into the film....

It's entirely possible that the UK release is also the extended release and Sony are doing like they did with Hellboy,(the BD is the Director's cut, but doesn't promote the fact), on Blu-ray.

The UK release may be the extended version, but I remember Welcome to The Jungle (or The Rundown) getting different cuts between Sony's UK and Australian releases. The UK apparently, and perhaps mistakenly, got a significantly edited version of the film.

I'm sure that we'll get confirmation soon enough.

If this is the Punisher: War Zone this is actually the worst movie I ever sat all the way through. The one with Thomas Jane was OK. War Zone is just awful, and I do not mind senseless gratuitous violence, but this was a bad movie. To put this in perspective, I sat all the way through Hudson Hawk as well.

And what? I love this myth that Hudson Hawk is actually a bad film. I've watched it,(sober), with friends a few times and it always brings the house down.

Hudson Hawk was not a bad film, may be we highly anticipated too much for B.Willis after Die Hard in those day.

The first post makes it clear that it's the 2004 version with Thomas Jane. But, yes, I agree that War Zone is terrible.

I thought we were referring to the most recent Punisher. The Thomas Jane one was OK. The most recent one was the one I thought was beyond awful. As to those that like Hudson Hawk, I don't fault you. It was insane, and there is a place for stuff like that. I didn't walk out of it anyway. It's got singin', dancin', and candy code names. Maybe the litmus test should be Howard the Duck (which I didn't walk out of either, but I was like eleven or twelve years old).
