So I take it you're saying the insulation on conventional speaker wire will

....probably!

Go to your local stereo gear store or often computer stores, TigerDirect, will carry good cables for audio, you need a single cable, look for subwoofer cables. Don't worry about looking for shielded, RCA, preout or coaxial, just get a subwoofer cable, just a bunch of audio lingo. You don't need to spend much. Lots online as well. As someone said, avoid BestBuy or big box stores, 1000% markup! Walmart may even have some at a good price, never looked though.
It's called pre-out, that's just the way it is, sometimes labeled as sub out on the receiver.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the links SM BIC!

Do you think the Blue Jean cable is worth all the extra money?

nope! 50% of the folks here will disagree with me though. Thats the way it always is in forums. Just put that link in as an example, you could spend a WHOLE LOT more than that on a single cable. Google it, many articles about big $ vs little $ cables and wires.
There is a small, unadvertised store close to me, hard to find, he buys stuff from electronics stores/companies going out of business or old stock, .05 cents on the dollar he says, resells it at less than half retail, sometimes 90% off retail, item depending. Try and find one of these in you neck of the woods. Google.

I guess this is where I'm supposed to apologize for taking the time to answer your questions and trying to help you. It is called "pre-out" because it comes OUT of the PRE-amp portion of your receiver, and therefore is a low-voltage signal which has a particular waveform - regardless of whether it is digital or audio. Such low-voltage signals require care during transmission as they are subject not only to waveform degradation but also very susceptible to crosstalk. Therefore it is common practice to use coaxial, shielded cable to carry such signals. If you want to use speaker wire then go ahead. I'm sure you'll be happy with the results.

c'mon...sold out everywhere? Is there a reputable online dealer besides PE?
Amazon is showing in stock at the moment. However, the price is more than other stores.
Still in stock at Amazon...if you've "gotta have it and have it now". I think if I were going to >$250 for the F12, I'd go ahead and get the PL200.
Not worth paying $80 more to have it now. Think I'll wait. Is shopblt reputable?
I had a reputable experience with them.
Thanks, looks like I'll pre order with them otherwise I was going to get a Dayton 120. I need something to replace my Angstrom 8

I bought an F12 from them back in July. I was a little leery, particularly about their shipping notification policies since earlier in this thread several people had complained about their subwoofer suddenly showing up on their doorsteps while they were at work and totally off the tracking dates. I expressed those concerns in an email to BLT and was pleasantly surprised how quickly someone responded personally. Answered all my questions, walked me through some of the different ordering policies I had never seen before (providing scans of my credit card and ID, etc.) and followed up to see if I was satisfied with the process.

My subwoofer arrived within a week on the exact day specified in the tracking info. So I was a happy camper about the whole process and am very pleased with the F12 as the backbone of my Home Theater. Had almost ordered from Amazon, which at the time was similar in price, just because I was familiar with doing business with them. But I'm glad now I saved the extra $10 or so and went with BLT. Hey every dollar counts, right?

There's a great plug in for Firefox called Invisible Hand. It basically does a search for products/prices for you. Say you are looking at the F12 on Amazon, a bar will appear at the top of the browser that will tell you you've found the cheapest price available OR it will say "this item is X% cheaper at [...]. It will also allow you to see all of the other retailers with that product and let you click to go directly to the site you want to see. It doesn't take into account rebates or shipping but it will give you a rundown of many (i've seen as many as 20 retailers for some products) sites offering that product and their respective prices.

I don't work for Mozilla and I'm not trying to sell anything, I'm just a guy that buys a lot of computer and a/v gear online and this saves me hours.

Just got in line for a F12 from BLT.com. Hopefully it will be here in a couple or 3 weeks (with shipping). My old M&K has been dead for 3 weeks now and I am really missing the bass in my HT and gaming.
You can also search on Google for the cheapest price. Previously called "Froogle" it is now integrated into the search options on the left nav bar in the search results. The best part is that it provides the unit price, shipping, and total, in a column format, along with reputation indicators. HUGELY helpful. I always check it first before I buy anything online.

As a total aside, I'm hooked on the Red Laser app for my iphone. It scans product bar codes with the phone's camera and within about 3 seconds provides a listing of prices for the scanned product at stores local to your location as well as online. Great for the "Do I buy it here or wait and buy online?" question.

I'm considering buying a new Klipsch Synergy Sub-12 that is currently on sale. All reviews seem to be favorable, though none of them appear to be from audiophiles. But all reviewers mention excellent music performance and an absence of boominess - two factors that I found a bit disappointing with my F12. The thing is that my F12 is less than six months old (still in the six months no interest window) and the Klipsch would be my fourth sub.

I haven't found much mention of the Klipsch here on AVS. Generally I do not like the sound of their regular speakers. But if I give it a try I wonder if anyone would be interested in a second hand F12? I live in SW OH.

Not sure what I'll do with the F12... still have two more payments on it, but I got the same 6-mo SAC deal on the Klipsch, which makes this a little easier. I'm also toying with reconnecting my older 10" downfiring sub in the opposite corner and see how well the two get along.

Just ordered my 2nd F-12 from BLT, it's a wait but worth it. The only reason for it was to even out my room. The front towers were sitting lower than the other 4 towers, which are sitting on passive subs. I figured I'll have 2 F-12's sitting next to my entertainment center with the towers on top, should sound and look pretty sweet. I'll post a pic when done.

Aren't you concerned with the vibration from the F12 the towers may fall right off?

Haha, I hope not. I was planning on putting my left speaker on the sub when I get mine. So, I was glad to see others talk about doing this. Vibration had been a concern, but I figure that it's worth a shot.

I live in a condo, so I can't be cranking the bass anyway.
I had the left speaker sitting on top of the F12 and had no problems.
Just to be sure, I have a thin sheet of foam rubber between the two.
Also have a CD player sitting atop that speaker.

WOW, you guys obviously don't crank it like I do for the amount of time, sometimes 3 or 4 hours straight, very loud! 135x7 watt receiver running 5 very efficient speakers + the f12, really shakes the place, can hear it at both my neighbours front doors and deep in my back yard. Anyway, placed a full cup on top of the F12 and it made it's way to the edge in just a few songs. The weight of a speaker with rubber under it should be OK I guess. Good luck, let us know.

For those of you that bought from BLT, will they leave the sub if you're not home? When they get the subs in, do they E-mail you with a specific shipping/arrival date? Thanks.
Even though I selected (and paid extra for "signature required") they (blt) still left it on the porch. I figured that way I was covered on many levels. Their correspondence regarding the whole purchasing process, estimated delivery date, and shipping / tracking information was excellent, in my opinion. Relaxing, considering I was not familiar with them. (I even called them before hand, which added comfort.)

Now in stock through Amazon. Joe Bob says check it out.

Would this sub work OK in my home theater room? It would need to go directly behind our couch. There's about 3' between couch and rear wall. Would that be too close to our ears? Would it be too overpowering? Thanks.

It will only be too close loudness wise if you turn the levels too high.
Placing a sub very close to your listening position is not the best location though. It may sound very dull, and quiet there. Placing it near the wall, and better yet in the corner will improve results.

This sub is a very good sub for the money!

Thanks. I forgot to mention it will also be close to the corner. I can put it right up to the corner(where the rear wall meets side wall) if need be.

You need to leave some space behind it, for several reasons. There are wires and controls on the back, and it needs some air flow to cool the backplate. Most importantly, half of the sound comes out of the rear port, so it should be 6-12 inches form the wall. Since it is in a corner, you can turn it sideways, so the side of the box is against the wall and the rear is facing the corner. That way you can move it closer to or further away from the corner to see what sounds best.
