I think you'll find you can plug it in, you must already have a spot for it, run your receivers calibration and then just tweaks. Don't mean to sound dickish Jim but I think sometimes people get a little carried away with setting these up, it's not that difficult. JMHO, no offence to anyone.

Geez Sound Master BIC, I'm sorry my question bothered you. Why would you ASSume my receiver has Auto calibration? I thought there may be some tip for this particular sub.

The documentation that comes with the F12 is probably the most comprehensive that I've ever seen come with any sub. Depending on which setup option you use just set the switch to either DD5/6/7.1 for coax or "DolbyII" for L+R speaker wiring. For DD the xover is bypassed but most turn it all the way up anyway. The volume usually works best between 2 and 3. This sub is more sensitive than many others and needs to be set unusually low and work your way up form there. Also I found the rear port needs to be about a foot away from a back wall. Propping a pillow behind it seem to help reduce some of the boominess. Good luck with your new toy!

Thanks RobLee. If I set the sub's decibel level with my receiver, I still set volume on sub to 2 or 3?
Set your AVR sub level to 0db and start by setting the sub's knob to around 9 o'clock. Do your calibration or listening test, adjusting your speaker levels on the AVR. If the sub level is within bounds of the other speakers (most feel +/-10db is workable) then leave the sub set. If it is drastically different from the other speaker settings then set it back to 0 and adjust the sub's knob slightly. As I mentioned earlier, many find this sub's volume knob to be overly sensitive and most find that 9-10 o'clock is usually about right. Of course, it can end up anywhere from near min to near max depending on the sensitivity of your other components.

-----------------
Correction: "set it back to 0 and adjust the sub's knob slightly" THEN START OVER AGAIN.

At the same time I like it clear, fortunately my system, 4 good-sized towers, a 135 wpc Yami and of course the F12, it is both loud and clear.
My music collection, while quite extensive, has nothing in it that has bass cello or tympani so I can't say how those things sound, maybe I'll get something and try it out.
Those that know RUSH know they are not a thumping bass type band but Geddy's bass plucking was clear and concise while Neil's kicks were solid and clear along with the bigger Toms. If you're a RUSH fan Beyond the Lighted Stage is a must have!

Got the dvd off e-bat 13 bucks. Sounds like a good investment

Sorry you took it that way, it was sort of tongue in cheek, not serious, didn't 'bother me,' at all. The ASSume may have been uncalled for though!
I always figure when I see someone with so many posts they must be pretty knowledgeable, that's all. I also figured, almost all semi modern receivers have some sort of auto calibration, my OLD Sony even had it.

I just received my F12 from Amazon. I opened up box and found that 2 of the 4 cover's pegs were broken off in the sub. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, did you have to send the whole sub back or just the cover? Thanks.

IF it's like Amazon's standard damaged item return process you can file for a replacement immediately and they will overnight a replacement to you. They will give you 30 days to return the original (at their expense) or they will charge you for it.

You will have to file a claim with photos of the damage but a replacement should be within one or two days I believe.

Hi

I just bought f12 and hooked up with my pioneer 1020 k using LFE out and Set receiver type to 5.1 in sub and set crossover freq to 80 hz in receiver.

With this setup I get good bass with this setup when source is playing in 5.1.

When I play in stereo mode, I am not getting bass in sub. So I guess it is playing in 2.0

So what I did is

i. Connected left and right wires from receiver to sub and connected output from sub to left and right speakers
ii. Then set receiver type to prologic in Sub
ii. Set crossover to 80 hz in Sub

My question is will this setup be alright for all modes to pick up bass below 80 hz?

In 'Stereo' mode only sound is sent to the Front left and right speakers

An easier way to get back to the original set up and to get bass in stereo mode is the select 'Plus' in the receiver

Guess I shoulda listened (already have one and am looking to purchase a second).

Looks like Amazon's price has jumped up to $260, argh.

Where is the new cheap place to get one, guys? It looks like Beach Audio is out and the cheapest place I could find one is from Provantage, but that is where I got my last one and they shipping it so poorly, the front grill was slightly broken. Anyone?

On the other hand, what about getting this instead from beach audio:

http://www.beachaudio.com/Bic-Americ...-p-424773.html

Bic Rtr Rtr-12s 12" 200-watt Rtr Series Front-firing Subwoofer (rtr12s)

Less than $175 shipped and it looks to have slightly better specs (higher wattage, deeper Hz range?). What do you all think?

Anyone think this sub or even the Acoustech H-100 would work well in my situation. HK receiver with Klipsch Quintet III speakers for 100% home theater, no music. I am more concerned with the bass not bleeding into the voices than just raw thump power. Which BIC subwoofer would work best for my small 10' x 10' x 8' (ceilings) TV room??? I can't really see spending a lot more money for what I've spent on the other speakers and receiver for such as small room.

Thanks,
Robert

This would be MORE than enough for your small space. Did you read any of the past pages?

I don't know Posh, did you read any reviews on that RED rtr? From what I've read, sub matching is critical, even more so that the other speakers in a system... If I remember the numbers correct, the F12 goes down to 25hz-200hz, the rtr says 30hz-180hz, certainly not a match! Then add a side firing port as apposed to rear firing on the F12...

Thanks.

I had forgotten about good ole BLT, which I had seen mentioned here before. Order placed. Should ship in early Dec I guess.

I can't wait to test out my new receiver's (Denon 4311ci) reported ability to EQ two subs... :-)

Thanks again.

Do any of the F12 resellers ship to Canada?
Amazon doesn't seem to for warranty reasons.
Just ordered mine today from parts-express for $215 minus $5 promotional code SAVE52010 so it came to $210 with free shipping. Got it to replace the Dayton SUB-120 I been using and I have ordered a lot from parts-express and their customer service is top notch in my book for anyone who doesn't want to wait and willing to pay an extra $30 over BLT price. Was worth it to me and I got to use BillMeLater so you don't pay upfront.

Based on this thread I made the jump and picked the thing up for $210 shipped on Parts Express. It will be replacing my old Sony SA-WM20 (8in, 50-watt unit) sub woofer. I bought the Sony sub when I was 16 and even then really only planned the thing to fill in for a year or so until I could replace it with something better. Turns out that while everything else got upgraded, that little Sony sub just sat there at the top of my list of things to upgrade. Living in a house now and having my sub in the living room and not my bedroom made this a good time for an upgrade! I'm looking forward to getting this thing hooked up, and am crossing my fingers that there is going to be a pretty big difference.

As a follow-up, after talking to BIC, they told me they'd send me a new grille. I get the new grille, and it won't fit. The pegs on grille are much thinner than the original, so the grille just falls right off sub. I call BIC again, and they tell me the thicker grilles are not available anymore, and to send the sub back to Amazon. My replacement should be here Wed. What a PITA.

What was your process to return it? Is Amazon sending you a new one before you send the broken one out?

I got the new one today, and everything looks good. I'll fire it up tonight.

I went thru the return process online because I could not find a phone # anywhere on Amazon's website. They sent out a replacement right away, and they give you 30 days to return the original. If they don't receive the sub within 30 days, they bill your credit card. They sent me an E-mail the same day with a pre-paid UPS shipping label to print out. Very simple.

I've always been very pleased with Amazon's quick and easy return policy.

Does anyone know how these 2 would compare? Is it worth spending the 30 extra bucks for the F12. It's pretty slim pickings here in Canada when it comes to subs

The first link you posted is the F12 and at $290 that's not too bad. If you figure in delivery and possible cross border fees and duty and taxes that might be charged if it's delivered from the US that could easily be $90 or more. I don't know if TechDepot will add any fee's or not, never ordered from them. If you're in the GTA you could pick it up.
