I believe it sets it to whatever setting gets the output to a specific dB...what I found with audyssey is that it sets so much other stuff, EQ settings for highs/sub and what not that its useful to run and then adjust the sub level to what ever you prefer...for example, I turned my sub way up after running audyssey because I really really really enjoy feeling explosions...

In the end, it doesn't really matter if MCACC set the sub level to -7.5 or -3 or - 20, its making other adjustments and you can tweek the sub lvl to your liking after the fact.

That being said, I'm a newb so /flameon

Is -7.5 to low?

Is this thing on the F12? Mine will be here next week.

the backplate of the amp has a phase switch for 0 or 180 degrees...that should be set to 0, it also has a receiver type switch, either digital or prologic, you probably want digital unless you have a really really really old receiver, it has a cross over dial which you'd want turned all the way to the highest frequency, that way your receiver can control what is sent to the sub and it has a gain knob, that you can set wherever really and the receiver will adjust accordingly when you run the auto setup software, however, when I was using my F12 I had it at about 4.5 on the gain.

The MCACC is the auto setup software that comes with his receiver, my Onkyo uses Audyssey to do the same thing. Hope this helps.

Hey guys. Quick question. Is the F12 worth another $100 over Pioneer SW-8? I listen to all kinds of music including hip hop, play video games like bf3, and watch Blu Ray movies. I LOVE bass.

Also, can you recomend me a nice modern reciever for ~$200? How is the Harmon Kardon AVR1600?

Onkyo TX-SR508 7.1-Channel 3-D Ready Home Theater Receiver. Get it at accessories4less. I really like it.

The F12 is one of the best bang for your bucks subwoofer.

I have the Denon AVR 590 and I would highly recommend it.

My F12 will be here on Monday. I have the most recent Onkyo receiver that came with my S8400 HTiB package.

I hope there is manual for me to read on how to set this up.

Thanks!

Is there any science with down firing subwoofer vs front firing subwoofer like this one?

Is one better than the other?

What is the hole thing? Is that for air to come out or for the sound to come out?

My Bic F12 is shipping tomorrow, with delivery scheduled for Thursday. Amazon actually let me down recently on the receiver and center channel orders I placed.

I've been a Prime member for a few years, and never had an order not leave on time. These two items simply would not leave the warehouse in Louisville. Weather was good there, but about to get bad here. I can't imagine their policy is to hold packages at the warehouse when weather is bad elsewhere. It would make more sense to get it on the truck and on the road, thus making more room in the warehouse for new incoming trucks. Whatever...

Panasonic VIERA TC-P50S30
Onkyo TX-NR509
Baby Advents
Polk Audio CS10
Boston Acoustics CR6

Got to spend a bit more time using my sub now that I have it properly setup, and all I can say is that this sub is amazing! For what it costs, you simply cannot beat it.

I actually have my two v1220s and my F12 playing at the moment, I need an omni mic to tell what is really going on, but from my seating position it feels more powerful...my clothes move more

UPS arrived way earlier than normal. Good for me, I guess.

The difference is INCREDIBLE. I truly was missing out on so much prior to hooking up the F12. Now to fine tune everything, and get the surround speakers mounted.

Anyone have issues with there f12 amp? I had mine blow a fuse, so i swapped it with a new one. Then it burnt up 2 mosfet chips onboard. Im waiting on some replacements from ebay to solder in and see if i can revive this thing. If not, im going to swap in a LMS-R and get a pro audio amp. Been playing with winisd and it should be intense. But, if i can revive this thing for just a little longer, then ill be GTG.

You mean you've swapped the F12 amp for something else? You've had it longer than 5 years? It's warrantied for 5 years, you could have sent it back for a replacement, no charge, now I don't think so! Solder in some chips... are you nuts or am I reading this wrong?

Does anyone think the BIC America F12 is too much for a regular sized bedroom?

I have a regular sized bedroom converted into a HT and I'm considering the F12 but I'm wondering if it's going to be big/too powerful for a smaller room.

Anyone have any ideas or should I look into something smaller like the Polk PSW10?
Polk PSW10 is not worth dragging home. A better sub can always be turned down.

although I would normaly agree with this, in this situation it probably be sufficient for a bedroom.

Muddy bass is muddy bass regardless of location.

What are the dimensions of this "regular sized" bedroom?

I'd say about 13x11 or in that range.

Someone made a good point about just being able to turn down the volume on the F12 but if I'm never going to be able to use it fully, I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra $100.

I've heard the Polk at a local store. Never owned it. It's pretty much garbage. I owned the F12 and for home theater it is a great budget sub. Not so much for music. The only way I would use it for music is with towers and a low crossover. When I paired it with smaller sats and a higher crossover it turned boomy.

Now using a Hsu STF-2.

I don't think the F12 will overpower that space. My room is 14x12 and I am very pleased with the BIC.

Your first question was if the F12 is too much for a regular sized bedroom. Answer: no. Whether it is $100 better than the PSW10 is a different question, and likely one only you can answer, considering the intended use. If this were my primary HT room, I'd spend the extra $100 for a better sub.

I don't think hearing a sub in a store can give you a true represantation. Who knows what crappy settings it had feeding it.

Having said that, I owned 2 of them and I also owned 2 F12. Not in my wildest dream would I choose the PSW10 over the F12 for many many reasons which includes what you've mentioned, but for the money, it's intended use and smaller footprint, I don't think it would be that bad.

That answers my question.

Now...pricing. $188 is the current price for the F12 on Amazon. Is this about what it averages or does it ever drop much lower? I'm trying to keep around a 1k budget but it looks I'm going to go over.

If you read any of the threads in this forum where the PSW10 is even mentioned, universal opinion is not to waste the money on it. The so called "great" reviews on Amazon and newegg are from novices who have never heard a truly "good" sub. Regardless of the setup, I stand by my original statement. That Polk sub is garbage.

Anyhow, I think you will be happy with the BIC.

I was kinda of on a budget and when all was said and done, I wish now I would have started with a a 2.1 system and added over the months! I don't know if your starting from scracth, but if you are, I would put all my money into the Sub and the AVR. The Denon 1912 or the Onkyo 709 would be two on my list. As far as the Sub, I would look to HSU, Epik or Outlaw! If you can get a good sub and the receiver and then squeak in two front speakers, and dig up a couple of speakers for your surrounds, you will be stylin!
