BIC America F12 sub anyone ? - Page 80

I watched the F12 prices for about 6 months before I pulled the trigger. I even waited through the holidays hoping for a year-end sale. No such luck. The lowest I saw it go was $180 with free shipping on Amazon. Sears had it listed for $150, but shipping put it closer to $200 out of pocket. I ended up purchasing at the current price on Amazon when I got a gift card.

I'm fully aware of the opinion on the PSW10. I don't read reviews from sites that sell what is being reviewed. I'm saying that to say it's "garbage" when you have not owned one is moot.

I had Bic F12 and as great as they are for the money, others will call it "garbage" compare to their $500 sub.

If the op can swing for the F12, then it's a no brainer as I have owned both. The F12 as a bigger driver, more output and will dig lower.

I've decided on the F12. As mention previously, I can always control the volume on it if needed.

I'd rather pay a little more and be happy rather than regret it and have to upgrade later.

I have the F12 and I also have a Outlaw LFM-1EX and I would not say the F12 is garbage! Sometimes it will surprise you, just needs to be adjusted properly ! High volume however is where you lose it!

lol, I'm not saying they are garbage. I was just illustrating a point. Like I wouldn't comment on the LFM-1EX as I never owned one. When I had my F12s, I was told they were garbage though.

The only reason I don't have them anymore is because a few months back, somebody came over to buy a receiver I had for sale and when I demoed the receiver with Terminator Salvation, the guy was so impressed with the F12s that he offered me ,on the spot, more than what I paid for them

Yea im nuts lol, mostly an excuse for more power lol. I actually replaced the fuse with a larger one (2A instead of the 1.6A), and i think thats why it burnt up rather then just popping. So i wasnt going to scam bic out of a new amp.

I did end up dropping a bit on components to i guess rebuild the bic lol. A new sub and a pr should give me pretty good extension down into the teens so im happy with the modeling.

Wasnt my idea of how i wanted to make it work, but i dont have alot of tools for wood working and didnt want to spend a arm and a leg on a custom box.

I have my crossover at 180 hz. Is this OK?

I have done the auduessey tuning and all my spearkers do sound balanced.

Having the sub's crossover dial set to 180 is correct.

At what crossover(s) did Audyssey set your other speakers? And are they set to Large or Small?

for a room that's approx 18x18, mostly movie/music usage, which is better: F-12's or Venturi V1020?

For the little extra cash get the F-12

Set one x-over or the other. The auduessey should have a setting for it. If you set it there, then it will take control to distro the upper signals to the other speakers. If you do this, then crank your bic xover all the way up. This will let any signal (provided its under the max setting), go into the sub amp. The reciver xover is prob alot better then the bic plate amp so id trust that.

How quiet can this thing play? I have a shared wall with an apartment neighbor and wouldn't want too much sound leaking through it.

As quiet as you want it to. You can turn it down low enough so that it's barely doing anything. I've got a townhouse and I've got it adjusted so it isn't very loud during normal watching, but when I put a movie on I can just crank the dial a little and get it to shake the walls.

Alright thanks. Would the absolute lowest volume on the bic sub still overpower the bass output from bookshelves at a low-medium listening level?

Just picked up an F12 for $166 shipped.

Its going in a second small living room, and should even out the system there nicely. Going to see how it performs compared to my HT room sub that is 13x the cost.

I jumped on Amazon's price of $188 for the F12 last week to finish off my new setup and man-o-man does this thing kick. Thanks to everyone in this thread (and others) that said what a solid sub this is.

If you put it to the lowest volume you won't hear anything. My wife doesn't like a lot of bass (even during movies) so I turn it down significantly when we're watching something together. It's easy enough to make it more or less disappear if you want to.

Whoa. The sub shipped Monday and I'm getting it today already.

It's no Submersive, but lets see how it does in a small room for non audiophiles on top of a Subdude.

For the price, it's the best sub you can buy.

I just installed this in a small living room for a second system, and it sounds great. Does it compare to my $2,200 Seaton Submersive? Hell no. The F12 is a perfect budget buy for someone looking to fill a small / mid size room with good bass. It is a much better value than my flagship sub, but don't expect it to even come close in performance. It does compare to big brand name subs around the $299-399 price range however.

would this sub be an upgrade compared to an energy esw-8hg sub? looking for a replacement. hoping this delivers good clean sound not just a lot of bass

A highly-rated 12" sub versus an entry-level 8" sub? Yes, I would consider it a huge upgrade.

i've been looking to upgrade my 15(ish) year old paradigm PS1200. would this be a noticeable upgrade or should i consider something else? i don't want to spend much more than $350 on a sub, but $188 would be great if this would be a decent upgrade.

received the sub today.

i connected it and ran audyssey

first i set the volume on back of the sub to 3.5
audyssey set the sub at -12 and around 15 feet or so distance.

so i lowered the volume to 3. i reran audyssey again to try and get as close to 0 as i can.

audyssey then set the sub to -12 (again?!?) and distance was like 24 feet

not sure if anythings wrong but it stayed at -12. should i lower the sub volume to 2.5? that seems pretty low or maybe i just got a defective sub. i hate rerunning audyssey if its just gonna stay at -12
