BIGGER IS BETTER! "WIPEOUT" RETURNS FOR SEASON TWO ON ABC

"Episode 210" -- Bigger, better, wilder than ever! ABC's hit series "Wipeout," the No. 1-rated summer series across all networks, returns for Season Two as wide-eyed and energized contestants compete in the world's largest extreme obstacle course, providing the biggest spills and best wipeouts ever seen on television. "Wipeout" returns WEDNESDAY, MAY 27 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Note: This program will repeat Saturday, May 30, from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET.

Amazing new obstacles include Hurtles and Sweeper Gyro, plus a Bridge Too Far. Brace yourself for the all new Wipeout Zone with the Catapult, Gears of Doom and more high stakes challenges. And the fan favorite obstacle, the Big Balls, will also be back, but with a twist -- the Motivator, a massive anvil that sneaks up on contestants, propelling then onto the Big Balls if they hesitate.

Each week, 24 daring new contestants of all ages, shapes and sizes go head to head through four rounds of demanding but hilarious obstacle courses to win the title of "Wipeout Champion" and the $50,000 grand prize. In the end, only one contestant will win, while everyone else will Wipeout!

"Wipeout" is hosted by John Henson (E! Entertainment's "Talk Soup") and John Anderson (ESPN's "SportsCenter"). Jill Wagner is co-host. Executive producers are Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen ("Fear Factor"). Shye Sutherland, Kevin Wehrenberg, Trice Barto and J. Rupert Thompson are co-executive producers. The series is produced by Endemol USA. David Goldberg is the chairman of Endemol North America.

We actually enjoyed this show last season. Some mindless fun and filler for the weak summer schedule.
If you've noticed during the promos, they're now using the famous "WipeOut!" song for the music - I guess they got clearance to use it, finally.

It is HD.

SD on WMAR. HD on WJLA.
(Unfortunately) HD on WEWS in Cleveland.

Part of me just died inside seeing this in HD.

It was HD on WTXL out of Tallahassee (was watching OTA; the station runs a weather subchannel); no problems detected with PQ or AQ. Still the same ROFLMAO show it was last summer, only better with the new stunts.

Did "Cheap Date" ever manage to take Jill out to dinner?

It was HD in Miami. Great show but the obstacles are a lot harder this year.

Thank god banana-hammock guy got knocked out; that was just plain disturbing. Fun, mindless show.

Watched a few minutes and turned the channel.

You've seen one crotch-shot in HD, you've seen them all.

I honestly wonder how many people have gotten injured during this show. I mean seriously, some of those obstacles have paralysis written all over them.

That one woman who fell on her face and proceeded to bend over backwards could have easily broken her neck or back.

YES my entire family shrieked when the Happy girl did her Circue tryout bendover.....I'll never be able to order breadsticks @ Olive garden again!

Does anyone know is the lawsuit filed by the Tokyo Broadcasting System against ABC claiming infringement is still going on?

The Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia were also in SD on WMAR. Didn't check anything else.

...or at the very least chip/lose a tooth or get a black eye.

The Goode Family was in SD, but Surviving Suburbia and Wipeout were HD. Must have been a local issue.

The Goode Family was in 4:3 but the ABC HD logo came up.

It started out in SD here, but switched to HD about 10 minutes in or so, must have been a local issue. I never watched the show last season, but figured I'd give it a shot now that it's HD, loved it!

I'll check out the repeat on Saturday. (GMA is in HD on WMAR this morning.)

Had just the opposite happen on WZZM-Grand Rapids, started out HD, ended in SD... very atypical of the usual Master Control Ops Modus operandi

It's not a ROFLMAO show but it had its points where I laughed at the stuff - and from me, that's saying a lot. I think I tune in more for the commentary of John, John and Jill than anything else.

The contestants think they're 'all that' and it's fun to see them get their comeuppance on the courses.

Hey, Cheap Date! You just won $50K - don't be so cheap on your date with Jill!
I'm curious to see the ratings info - it goes up against the first hour of SYTYCD on Fox.
I think I laughed harder at my kid (7 year old) laughing at it. He was literraly ROTFL. I kept having to pause it so he could catch his breath.

I think I like Ninja Warrior better, but it's on G-screen-polution-city-4, and not HD at that.

Did he actually win the 50k or was it that he won that round so he gets to complete in the finale vs. the other 12 contestants for the 50k. I think the latter, but I do not know much about the show. At the beginning i think the host says the winner tonight will get a chance to compete for 50k.

Other than that it seemed like a complete ripoff of MXC style.

He won it. The host at the beginning says something like the winners of the first and second rounds will get to compete for 50k in the 3rd round (which is the last thing that only 4 people get to).

No, they always award the $50,000 to the winner of that night's competition. Just listen to Jill at the end - she always tells the winner they won WipeOut and the $50,000.

There are always four rounds in the competition -

Qualifier (the one that includes the Big Balls) - field reduced from 24 to 12 (fastest times thru course advance)

2nd round (sweeper) - field reduced from 12 to 6, last person standing gets a $1,000 bonus

3rd round - field reduced from 6 to 4 (first 4 to complete advance)

WipeOut finale round - fastest time thru the course wins the $50,000 grand prize

The show was great (maybe even better than last year with the newer, more difficult and painful obstacles), but...

SD on Comcast Chicago

(even though it indicated ABC HD on every return from commercial. The guide did not indicate HD though)

With several regions having this problem, is it still likely to be a local switching issue?
