'Wipeout' on ABC HD - Page 3

Oh yeah....4 rounds. Don't know why I was thinking only 3....

We liked the "big balls" but after seeing the hurdles (HURT-les), we are in love!!! Did nobody else crack up with all those folks bouncing up and down on those things?! ( and a couple under them as well!).

I thought the hurdles are a great addition this year. If I wasn't feeding my newborn I probably woulda been crying while laughing.

I like the Eliminator round better this year. That Catapult is wicked!

The show started out in SD but then the HD feed came on at 8:01pm.

The rerun today (Saturday) was in HD. It was glorious!

It didn't hit me until very recently, that Jill played "Larrin" on Startgate Atlantis.. first episode was "Travelers" showing in syndication now.

I had sent an email to the Engineering team at the WLS-7 Chicago, asking about technical issues which might have caused them to air it in 4:3 SD (and whether this problem might be fixed for the rebroadcast). They wrote back saying "the network sends it to us in 4:3."

Then, on rebroadcast, whaddayaknow? It was a in spectacular 16:9 HD!

I hadn't noticed it before (since only the Wipeout Bowl was HD), but there's quite a lot going on in the background there at the ranch. We can see construction of some kind during the qualifier (in addition to the ranch itself), and a lot more of the set around the Wipeout Zone (including what appear to be the gas pipes for lighting, fire, etc.)

We of course don't need to be told how much more of an immersive experience HD CAN be, but after suffering through SD last week, it made the rebroadcast all the more sweet.. er.. painful!

When does this show air, is it on tonight?

Wednesday nights at 8/7C.

Sorry if I've asked this before, or others have answered, but is the US version also shot in Argentina?

Not this Wednesday on DC's WJLA, they are airing "Battleground Virginia: The Candidates" - they were "due" for a pre-emption. This station pre-empts more network programming than the other stations combined and then some.

Repeats on Saturday.

This year, the obstacle courses are about ten times harder. I'm surprised more people aren't getting hurt.

I liked last years courses better. The spinner in last Tuesday's episode was stupid.

Only one really gave up, probably out of sheer exhaustion. The other lady injured her ankle as she came off the initial water slide and had to be rescued by the safety crew.

I liked the new first course. I really like the "Hurtels", wish they would use them all the time. And the foam covered "swing" is better than most of the final obstacles that they've tried.

But the "plank in the face" is just ruthless. I'd prefer something else in it's place.

Missed sucker punch this past weekend. Also, no mud pits - the rain forecast for that taping probably had them back off on it.

The woman who gave up around the 10 minute mark probably kicked herself later when she learned the wining time was 17 minutes plus.

Wipeout has fans in the broadcast booth at ESPN!

During the CWS game between Texas and Arizona State last night (June 16), play-by-play guy Sean McDonough admitted he was happy to see the show return. He even tried calling host John Anderson about it, but admitted the message he left on John's answering machine was unintelligible because he was laughing so hard.

They even mused about having a 'Celebrity' edition of the show (featuring, maybe, his colleagues Orel Hersheiser and Steve Phillips - Orel politely declined).

I've been wondering if there's a time penalty for falling in on the obstacle course...so many (like the wall punch especially) look like they'd be 3-4x faster just to dive in and swim by.

Also, in the final, what is the time penalty for bypassing the spinning wheel things? They always just say you can bypass them with a "time penalty" but not what it is.

My kid loves this show, but so much of it annoys me and seems cheap. For example, using the aforementioned spinning wheels in the final challenge. You could time your jump right, but the wheels tend to stop for a moment when the contestant lands on them, causing the contestant to fall. It seems cheap to me because the contestant did time it right, but the motor apparently isn't strong enough to keep it spinning at a constant rate of motion.

I think the final penalty is 2 minutes. If you know what the time to beat it you could literally swim past the 2 obstacles to get to the last one. Of course that would probably be pretty tiring.

We all continue to love the show (right?), but I suppose it's just not something that requires comment every week? Having said that, allow me to comment...

I don't remember any episode where the finalists ran the final course in times that were SO close.

Additionally, it would appear that Jill is finding more and more amorous admirers making it on the show. Sometimes, guys just need certain motivation...
