I feel a movie night tonight... (at reduced volume).
Just a quick summary of my projector findings:
When I finally received my RS50 after waiting quite some time I was so excited. The trouble is that IMHO that projector is a DUD for large screens. It only measured 540 lumens for decent but still uncalibrated modes on brightest settings. It has other issues with CMS but the RS50 thread contains all the gory details. In case you think 540 lumens is sufficient, you are right it was just enough, but I know it won't be a couple of months from now when the bulb dims.
After a couple of hours I realized it was not going to work, so I sent it back for an exchange RS40 and saved $2K. I must say that AVS are very good in this respect.
The RS40, which I installed last night, measures 722 lumens for the mode closest to that tested on the RS50. That's 38% brighter. The picture quality looks just as good. I probably need to tweak it a little but now at least I know I can survive a 30% dimming of the bulb and still have a bright enough image. So far I'm impressed.

Hey Moggie,
Glad to hear the brightness is much improved with the new JVC. I'm hoping my X3 will arrive on my door tomorrow, so it's comforting to hear that you are impressed

Cheers,

) whilst sitting in any seat. It would probably cause eye strain after a while because I wouldn't call it bright. In my case I do have cans over the rear bar area. These cans are on a separate GE zone so this can be lit independently -- the idea was that my family could be watching movie from the front seats whilst catch up with a late dinner at the bar. That said, the main reason I didn't put cans in the center of the ceiling was to remove the complexities in keeping a high quality of soundproofing through the ceiling.
