I've noticed the same buy Last of the Mohican's really looked bad. As soon as I disabled the Dynamic Iris, the picture was fantastic and far brighter / higher contrast.

Coming up on 2900 bulb hours. Just got new pair of eyeglasses after having lost them sea kayaking in Wellfleet this summer and am absolutely reminded what an uber kickass projector the Lumis really is. Very stoked about the bulb lasting this long, but will take some measurements this week to see what kind of footlamberts are happening currently, but subjectively it's still rockin' on a 10.5' wide studiotek 1.3 with 170w bulb setting.

Wow! You must have that sucker on all the time! I'm nowhere close to that many hours on my C3X1080...

Ian, you should try turning your projector on every now and then and stop fiddling with all that high end audio gear

Yes, I probably use this too much as the weapon of choice for sports and TV as well as a cracklike addiction to PS3 Gran Turismo. My son is now at the age where he's putting some hours on the PS3 after I set up a Gran Turismo GT driving force wheel driving simulator steering wheel table in the front row. There's nothing like the sound of an F430 screaming down a straightaway in your home at 90dB! Although my office is in the back of the theater, I don't normally watch in the daytime although I do fall asleep more than I care to admit in the evening with it left on. Have also set up a laptop table in the front row so I can work while watching which these days is almost always.

Any chance you could post some pics of the GT5 on the PJ?

SIM Lumis - a love poem

Ever since SIM update my firmware and machine,
the picture looks great, the picture looks keen !
It's the best projector that I've ever had,
if it ever dies I'll sure be sad !!
Sharp as a tack, the colors look good,
when videophiles see it, it gives them wood..........
I don't want to piss in anyone's tea,
but the Lumis looks so great - screw 3D !!

Happy Holidays everyone !!

Happy new year poet boy....

Happy New Year to you too, and everyone here at AVS Forum !!

Nice poem, Craig!

I guess this means you're not trading in your Lumis for one of those new JVCs.... :-)

Nope. I'm waiting for an LED projector that can exceed the Lumis in all performance areas with no bulb. Until then I'm completey happy to coast along with the Lumis.

I must say too, the the D. Iris is once again transparent on pretty much every movie ( except The Blind Side - ha ) !

Does anyone here know the latest version number for the Lumis firmware?

SIM2 service department says it corrects for errors 71, 72,and 73 (if they manifest)...namely scaler crashing... remote control and 232 not responding... No improvements to picture performance.
What does scaler crashing look like or how do those error codes manifest?

I don't think I've had such issues. One time it did power down after what seemingly was an hdcp or resolution syncing problem. But that's only once in the few hundred times it powered up.

In the case of the scaler, it locks up...freezes. The other codes relate to the RS232 and/or remote not responding to commands. It's rare, but the software updates correct for these if you experience them.

Come on give it up....what did that look like tonight?

I have an excellent JVC RS25 that Jeff Meier just worked his magic with last week. Blurays it goes without saying....but I love it as well for sports on a large High Power. ESPN of all companies, since so often their telecasts are a mess and crawling with noise, just put on the finest sports telecast I have ever seen with my system or in my life for that matter, tonight with the BCS championship. At least on Charter Cable for me in Burbank CA..

They were doing 3D and I guess just did everything to the hilt. These had to be the best of the best cameras in the business and uplink equipment. The show was stunning.

Anyone here, especially Free with his High Power, see the game tonight with their Lumis? Can you please describe what it was like with the quality of equipment they were using? I know a Lumis smokes an RS25 and my image was off the charts fabulous.

Thanks

I saw the game with a Sim2 C3X 1080 and it looked incredible.

I agrree, but depending on how you employ the term "smokes" it can actually be the other way around......i.e. "The RS25 gets on its knees and smokes the Lumis".

^^^ come on CM....you of all people too....did you see this telecast with your Lumis if you still are using one? What did it look like with the higher end projectors on this forum...specifically Lumis owners. If I had the money, from everything I have read, at the size I need that would be my projector of choice.

It appeared certain we were getting best of the best, state of the art gear for that telecast with the cameras they were using.

Sorry Ron, Its an illness I have. I feel an uncontrollable urge to take the cheap shot whenever I see one.

In answer to your question, no I didn't see that particular broadcast. I know a couple of people at ESPN and they have mentioned that they have been experimenting with data rates and some new compression that is used before broadcast compression.
Laughing. CM puts things like no one else can!!
I watched it on my Lumis and as always the picture was great. No shocker there for me. As long as the source is good my Lumis has always delivered.

on the other way I would recommend a new calibration. Firmwareupdate will also affect the videoprocessing. Settings based on the older firmware are often not okay with the new firmware

But doing the settings and the calibration new with the LUMIS running on the latest firmware, you will win in a better picture

Would updating from 3.14.00 have any vp picture improvements? Let sleeping firmware lie otherwise
post #1678 of 1953
any of you guys took some measurements of their Lumis ?
ftl, ansi and on off contrast ? not easy to do i concede

running a well tweaked D80E myself in scope format.
thanks
ANSI of over 1k has been measured and reported
2k Lumens
My own in room on/off (thanks Jeff/umr) 31661
post #1680 of 1953
the impressiveness is the simultaneity of these
and the massive ansi ( wrongly neglected by other technologies because it's less sexy to the masses...)
