Samsung LA32A550 display problem

Thread Starter
Hey there,

I spoilt myself and I bought a 32 inch Samsung LA32A550 Series 5. I was happy like anything as this has been one of my dreams come true. To further my happiness I bought a new pc too. The last PC I had bought was around 9 years back, so this was a big upgrade for me.

Now my nightmare starts:
After plugging in everything and ready I was hoping that I will open up a world of fast games, HD movies and stuff, but NO. The display was even bad from my 9 years old PC.

Heres the configuration for the LCD and PC I have used.

LCD:
Samsung 32 inch LA32A550 LCD Full HD 1080p

Computer:
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 9400GT
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 775 socket with 12MB Cache
RAM: 4GB
HDD: 500 WD

All sounds perfect, but I have attached a couple of images to let you see my suffering. I have installed and re-installed the VGA drivers, the motherboard drivers. I have been to avsforum.com for calibration settings and stuff like that. The display appears as there are no vga drivers installed. I have also connected A DVD Players and a Satellite Reciever which work perfect and are simply great. The only problem is the PC mode. Is it LCD problem? Is this a VGA problem? or is this a Motherboard problem? What should I do now?

Your help will as usuall be praised

Regards,

DJ

Those look like screenshots, so they don't actually show the problem, I think. You need to actually take a picture of the screen with a camera.

First of all, what kind of cable are you using to connect your PC to the TV? A VGA cable or an HDMI cable?

If you're using a VGA cable, if you're seeing halos/shadows around objects, I'd suspect your VGA cable, likewise on the color. I couldn't even tell what the 2nd picture was supposed to show.

Do you have a DVI->HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable you can use instead?

If you're already using an HDMI cable, you have to either turn down the sharpness or name the input PC (I don't know the steps to do it on your set though, so you'll have to check the manual).

I have the same problem and it seem not be related to calibration. When i'm using VGA, everything goes normal, but with HDMI i see a lot of sharpness on the image, the gradient effect expected in some images is not ok, things like these. My model is LA32A550P3R.

I'm waiting for your response guys.

Thanks in advance,

Yuri.

Although the first comment is correct in that you are showing a screen shot not the image, I will bet you that you are outputting a 4:3 image in the wrong resolution that is trying get corrected to a 1080P mode.

You might have to go into the display driver and set it up to 1920x1080 resolution. Go to Control Panel/Displays/Settings/Advanced/Adapter/List All Modes. If you do not have a 1920x1080 resolution available, I would see if there is an updated driver from nVidia.

Without outputting the native resolution, 4:3 PC (like XGA) video will look pretty poor (assuming this is your problem).

I think you are right about cliq's problem... but i'm using the correct resolution and something similiar about colors occurs. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

yep as others have already said some of this already but ill cover everything you need to do to get the sharpest picture

1. Get a DVI to HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable

2. Connect that cable to the HDMI port labeled HDMI/DVI on the BACK of the TV (this will be the on with the 2 red/white analog audio jacks)

3. Set your video card to 1920 x 1080 60hz on the TV's output

4. set that HDMI input's Label in the TV's menu to PC, this enables a special mode that ONLY works on the HDMI port labeled HDMI/DVI!!

5. go into the TV menus and find the screen setting and change it to just scan, this disables overscan on the input

6. play with picture controls and sharpness till it looks how you want it and enjoy!

Edit: just realized this was a necro, hopefully it helps someone in the future

Did it sloved youre problem guys? I have the same issues and nothing helped me so far. Are the connection problems of the HDMI to HDMI unsolvable?

when you run 1080p hdmi you should turn sharpness all the way down or nearly off as it only adds artifacts. also turn of edge enhancer and things like that. you shouldnt need anything like that turned on as its a clear digital signal.

also turn the aspect ratio to ''screen fit'' or ''just scan'' if applicable so it runs pixel for pixel without any scaling.

im running a la55c750 and am having major problems with pic quality.

also make sure the nvidia control panel isnt playing with picture settings.
