Is it bad to view things with bars on the sides for long periods of time?

I have been playing a lot of Playstation 2 on my Panasonic PZ85 lately, and pretty much all games leave margins on the side of the screen due to lack of true widescreen support.

Will this ever hurt my display? I play some of them for hours at a time and I just worry about the fact that it isn't occupying the whole screen.

Sorry if it's a silly question, but just thought I'd check in with the experts =).

Thanks much
Tim G

Also, I forgot to mention, I did do an initial break in (on top of that the TV is at least 10 months old now) of at least 100 hours with the color rotation / break in type disc.

As long as PS2 time is a relatively small portion of what you use the TV for, I wouldn't worry about it. You also might want to stretch the image so that it fills the screen.

Thanks for the reply sir! I have tried stretching the image but it either stretches too far over the edges of the screen or not enough, it seems like the closest I can get is a 2 - 3 inch black gap on each side. On the other end of the spectrum when it's stretched it's missing about the same amount of screen which makes it unplayable.

Also, just to note, it is a Panasonic TH50-PZ85U or whatnot, I know it's a 50 inch 85u...

i think it may be possible to set the black bars to be grey.
that will reduse the possibility for retention.
i dont know if you have to go into the hotelmenu, but if you try to read the thread for your tv, you may find more info on this.
