OK, here it goes. I'm not a big poster on this site, but I frequent it often and take a lot of advice found on this site. I went against the grain when I opted to get some Monster M1000 HDMI cables. I know a lot of you have this disdain towards Monster, so before the attacks come, hear me out
I was at Circuit City earlier this week to see if I could find a good deal on some HDMI cables since they were going out of business. Boy was I wrong; no good deals there...as far as I was concerned anyways. But while I was there, I was speaking to a sales rep and he told me about how great Monster products are...blah blah blah. But in speaking to him, he brings up Monster's "Cable for Life" Guarantee. He says if any new technology were to come along and the Monster Cable was not able to handle it, Monster would replace it for free with a cable that can support that new technology. So I asked what any person would ask...like what? He started telling me about 1440p and the possibility to go beyond that. So I started thinking about it, what if I were to get a low cost cable and then have to replace it a couple years down the line? That would suck to have to buy another set of cables right?
But there is the upfront cost to consider.
They had the 2 meter 1000HD (none M) cables "on sale" for $81.59. So just like that, I booked. I wasn't prepared to spend $352, after tax, for 4 HDMI cables. So I'm convinced that I am just going to get a set of cable from monoprice.com. Before I do that, I check to see how much these monster cables are going for on eBay...HOLY MOLY, I found some M1000HD for cheap, compared to MSRP, and scored 4 for $180 shipped. I know, I know, that's still a lot of money. I could have spent $64.30 shipped at monoprice.com based on their cheapest in stock 24AWG 10ft HDMI cables.
So, this brings me to my questions...Did I make a good decision on buying the Monster Cable brand solely based on their "Cable for Life" Guarantee? Do you think the HDMI 1.3a will stay the standard? Was it worth spending 3 times the amount of money to never have to worry about replacing my cables ever again?
And buy the way, the picture and sound look and sound **better playing a blu-ray movie (Dark Night) from my PS3 on my Sammy LN52A750 running through an Onkyo TX-SR805 to my Monitor Audio Silver RS surround sound speakers.
**I could be tricking myself into thinking "better" because I just spent $180 on cables. So in all fairness, I recognize that I could be seeing/hearing what I want to see/hear to justify spending what I spent
