"XIII" on NBC HD - Sun 8th and 15th

Based on the comic or stylized video game of the same name. I don't remember the specific source they are using but I haven't seen either.

If you like you hi-tech government assassins and characters who cannot remember who they are which results in mayhem and/or carnage, this might be for you.

Stars Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff. Part 1 tonight, part 2 next Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up, I'd forgotten it was today. I never read the comic but played through the videogame years ago.

I always wanted to play the game. It looked really interesting specially being that it was late in the PS2 and Xbox.
Let's see if I can watch this...

We shall see if it's watchable. Hope it's nothing like Bourne.

I'm going to watch it.

It was definitely Bourne-lite (even down to some of the music) but all things considered that was far better than it had any right to be for an NBC mini-series. It kept moving nicely and had a decent amount of action scenes.

Val Kilmer is a terrible shot considering he's number 12 and he's probably the first actor I've seen who didn't look cool dual-wielding handguns on screen.

It was originally a Canadian TV miniseries that played last year.

Did you watch it last night? I ask because the audio on KNTV was terrible, constant burbling and popping, I ended up only watching the first 15 mins or so as I couldn't stand it anymore, found an "alternative" source for the show.

This was via both Comcast and DirecTV.

Was probably related to your local station. Audio in my area was fine, although it was only DD 2.0 (stupid local station)

I'm sure it was, I asked Brian as we're in the same market/station.

first hour and 45 minutes was like bourne...

best though is when the prez got hit by a 50 cal. looks like she was shot by a 22LR though...

So it was a cross between "24" and "Bourne" - I really didn't mind because it had a nice pace and kept my attention. Being a Robert Ludlum reader, I've always been a fan of this type of storyline and this was just fresh enough to be fun to follow. I'm looking forward to watching the conclusion next Sunday.

The PQ was very nice and had a film-like quality to it.

I would say it leans more to Bauer than Bourne.

I've seen both episodes and it (might as well have) ended with a "to be continued". Anybody know if the 2nd season is in the works?

Seems to suffer a bit from "teleplay" writing and editing. It may get better and being only a two-parter, I'll probably finish it next week.

I checked the recording and it definitely has some audio problems. Maybe related to the rain storm in the Bay Area? KNTV has had problem during storms before because they use a older type system than the other stations to get network feeds. You'd think it would have been upgraded by now.

Yes, not sure about the rain though, that usually happens when there's a bad storm back east, I think they had they're decoder/encoder settings screwed up, the video was fine. Thanks for confirming though.

Everything on KNTV goes through master control in Burbank, so bad weather in in the Bay Area should have no impact on anything leaving the station.

That's what I was saying. In the past, extreme weather conditions in the New York area, snow, ice storms, etc. is usually the only time NBC signals get screwed up. It's my understanding that that is a symptom of the Ku-band transmission NBC uses versus the C-band the rest of the nets use. In anycase, weather in the bay area or LA has never caused a problem that I can recall.

I'm not sure if the problem was evidenced with the OTA feed as both Comcast and DirecTV get their KNTV-HD signal via fiber.

NBC does have the capability to uplink out of Burbank if the weather gets too bad in NYC, so presumably there's some sort of fiber path to Burbank. Just a wild guess, but KNBC/KNTV/KNSD might be taking that feed directly rather than using the satellite.
