A Trip Back in Time

Greetings All,
I am going to take a step back in time here and hope that someone with knowledge of the Entre is on the path I am about to walk down.

In regards to the Kenwood Entre has anyone found it possible through the years to use an external HDD with the Entre?

If this is not possible do we have information regarding the max size of an Internal HDD for the entre?

If I can not use a external HDD I'd realy love to stuff a 1tb drive into the entre. I use this unit to control 2 DV-5050M mega changers in my home theatre, I have recently put both of these changers in for preventitive maintenence and decided to have both laser P/U units replaced while they were in the shop.(to be sure I could have them replaced before I couldnt find the parts any longer, and suddenly needed to do it)

Both units have been returned to my home theatre and are actualy working far better than they did when they were brand new, I in no way regret the extra $260 bucks to replace the lasers. I now wish to get the Entre updated to something that may carry me into the next few years and beyond as it has worked flawlessly for me since I purchased it back in02 and I can see no reason to fix what isnt broken. But as we know the original 20g hdd is simply no where close to sufficient especially in todays home theatre set ups.

Thanks Much in advance for any and all information in regards to this I look forward to all the tech info I know is readily available here.

Don't own one, but hopefully these two threads may have the info you seek.

If it uses the FAT32 file system it'll most likely have a 128GB cap. It will recognize larger drives only if you make a >128GB partition on them, the rest will be unusable. Still, 120GB is much better than 20GB.

No idea about external drives.

Thanks much Guys,
I have read all the posts thus far on the forums here in reference to the Entre and have found no mention of any HDD larger than 120gb being used so im thinking it is a fat 32 file system and will go according to that and only install a 120gb to replace the original 20gb.

I have yet to read anything on using an external HDD but it is something I will test out as the Entre can load portable music players by way of usb, it seems it would be possible to get a external hdd to be recognized. I will let you know how the tests turn out on that side of it.

If it can recognize portable music players it should recognize standalone drives too.

But (of course there must be a but), the USB connection on that is most likely 1.1, which tops out at 12Mbps (1.5MB/s), with realistic figures being 400-900KB/sec. So if it does recognize an external drive, expect media with bitrates higher than 3mbps to give you trouble (skipped frames).

Also with FAT32 you cant have files bigger then 4gb, file system blah blah blah
