Samsung PN42A450 Discontinued

Seems like this TV is gone now, no best buys have it, CC is gone, and it's not really sold anywhere else.

Anyone know of a replacement for this?

I know a lot of people would say go panasonic, but I really want a Samsung tv and probably won't go any other way.

I really wanted to get a plasma too (mostly console gaming, movie watching) so didn't want to go lcd either.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Doesn't Samsung make other 42" Plasma models? If not, and you don't want a Panasonic, your only other choice is probably LG, or go LCD.

Perhaps if you did not have selective reading like many others you would have noticed that the OP wants to stick with the Samsung.

There are other 42 inch Samsung models that can be bought. Look around and you will find them.

The 42" 720p Samsung models have really poor black levels and IR. With the price of the 42px80u being so cheap it's a no brainer.

Not a good deal. You can get the 50" for that price.

I assume you want a samsung because of it's color accuracy? Because that's pretty much all it has over the panasonic. So your only alternatives are samsung LCD or LG plasma, which I've read have very good color controls.

I thought about maybe going with the samsung a550 lcd.

I'll go to best buy and look at the panasonic, but from what I remember when I looked at the floor displays the samsungs had the better picture.

Panasonic has also discontinued the 42PX80U and 50PX80U. The new models replacing them will be out first week of March.

You cannot judge the quality of a TV by looking at floor displays at a store. They're typically not adjusted correctly, and some TVs may have a better signal going to it than others nearby. Best Buy for instance has an ongoing agenda to sell Samsung products, and they have been known to make other brands look poor so they can steer people to the Samsung TVs. And a bright store environment makes some TVs (like LCDs) appear to have a better image, but in a home environment a good plasma will almost always look better than even the best LCD TV.

How do you expect me to judge then? I realize the setups aren't always optimized to give you the best ideal, but I can't exactly buy two tvs and decide which I want.

you can play with the settings in store, since all the sets have the identical lighting conditions the one that pops out the most to you is the right display to walk out with.

good luck!

I'm gonna wait a bit now, and see what Panasonic's new line offers and what Samsung comes up with.

Sears, which had the Panasonic TH-42PX80U and TH-50PX80U at fantastic prices earlier this week, has now totally unlisted then from their website.

Best Buy still has them as an outlet item, but now has the new Panasonic TC-P42X1 and TC-P50X1 actually available in some of their stores, but at an increase in price.
