Grafik Eye Installation

Thread Starter
I'm looking to install a Grafik Eye (3000 Series). Has anyone had any experience installing this. Is the install and set-up pretty straight forward? Any suggestions??
Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't be tough at all. Having a double Gang box in a retro situation is the most difficult part. Lutron has a great website and a 1-800 number if you do run into any snags.

They are real easy to install. Come with ENGLISH instructions and unit itself is labeled. Use a deep box is my only addition.

I installed a 4 zone 3000 series. I second the comment about a deep box. Lutron recommended a "mason" box. They carry them at my Home Depot. They are metal, the sides come off and they can be ganged.

You need a high volumetric FOUR gang box (two gang for the 3102, three gang for the 3103 and four gang for the 3104-3106). Raco Adjust-a-box is one such beast. I suggest a plastic, rather than metal, gang box but metal can be used.

Technically, a 3106 cannot be installed in a four gang box due to NEC requirements (you'll "overload" the box).

In new construction here's the better method:

Provide plastic, high volumetric, four gang box at standard switch height for Lutron Grafik Eye. Provide one 20 Amp feed from main panel directly to four gang junction box located 6†above floor. Run all switch legs from lights into junction box. Pigtail all commons and grounds together in the junction box. From junction box to four gang box (at switch height) provide one hot leg, one neutral, one ground, and one conductor for each switch leg). This places all pig tails and wire nuts in the junction box and not in the four gang box for the Grafik Eye. This avoids overloading the box as per NEC requirements.

Dennis' way worked like a charm and was quite easy once I read it a few times over. very slick indeed.

Great! That doesn't sound too bad.
Thanks for all the great input.
I think I'll use Dennis' suggestion

Folks,

I am about to install one as well -- as soon as I find a good deal on
a 3000 series. Anyone have a clue where I could find some good prices?

I did it as Dennis suggests. Using two boxes is the only way to go.
