Ok so after many months of lurking and question asking I have decided to finally start my own build thread. Unlike most on AVS mine will be VERY modest due mainly to budget constraints (aka The Wife
) This will be a complete DIY project by yours truly. Minimal knowledge of what I am doing may slow me down at times but that wont keep me from powering forward. Now let me start by saying that there will be NO.....GG,DD,hat channel,or any other type of sound isolation as that simply isnt important to me. I wouldnt know the difference between good or great sound if it came with a label. Plus the basement is open to the upstairs with no door. I say all this so that I am not questioned and/or ridiculed for not using any of the above mentioned products. Basically this is a generic attempt at a theater/bar to entertain and have fun. Our main use will be TV, Video games and then movies.
Now I stumbled upon AVS while searching for "bar plans" on the internet. As my original intentions were to just add a bar in the back corner of our half finsihed basement. I was searching for plans and landed on HeyNows thread first and simply fell in love with the bar, so I thought ok I am set here is an idea of what to do but upon further searches and LOTS of sleepless nights I found MANY other beautiful spaces on here and I was hooked. The rest is history as my intentions of building a bar and hanging a big ol' plasma on the wall are now trashed (like my wallet) and were on to projectors and theater seating....where will it ever end??
I need to thank all of you that have contributed ideas and responded to my numerous (and annoying) PMs. And to all those that have inspired me like HeyNow,LSWHO,HawkeyeJosh,Netko350Z,Satelliteguy and MANY others that I could just keep on naming I am sure. Without you guys and your spectacular builds and ideas I would be lost (even more so than I am now)
Ok to the room. I have already begun on the room, I started in late December working here and there on it and would say I am 1/3 of the way done.....maybe!! I forgot to take pics of the room setup prior to gutting all the memorabilia and furnishings out of it so go easy on me for that and I dont have fancy CAD drawings or computer mock ups either. I am the guy that gets an idea in his head and tries to apply that idea to the project not to paper. The room is an open basement (half) that is 25'8" across and 16'2" wide on the bar side and 17'5" on the theater side. It has an annoying support beam that was already drywalled in the middle to break up the two sides. I have wonderful
drop ceilings with a height of 7'2" that I will have to live with. I have purchased some of my components recently and the others will be soon to follow.
AV receiver-Denon 988
Front Speakers-Energy C-300s
Sides & Rears-Energy C-100s
Center-Energy XL-C1 (for now)
Xbox 360
Directv HD receiver
Projector-Panny PT-AX200U (to be added soon)
Sub-PA-120 (to be added soon)
Blu-Ray-?? (to be added soon)
Screen-Fixed frame (to be added soon)120" maybe bigger
That is all I can think of for now but I am sure theres more I will add when I remember. Pictures will be added soon and updates as often as I can remember to take pics and upload them from the camera. That takes me to another thing I suck at....PICTURE TAKING
I can guarantee that there will be pics but no guarantee of the quality of the said pics. Please enjoy, say hello, critique but be gentle as I am a rookie at most of this. My only construction history is a mammoth deck I built just this last summer around our above ground pool. That was fun since its round but its nothing like building a bar/theater. Anyway I will add new pics of the progress already made periodically until I catch up to real time then it will be as progress is made. Thanks for looking!
