Thanks I appreciate it and as for plumbing counselor you surely do not need my vote because I already nominated you that a few weeks/months ago!

Thank you sir but in person the small mosaics below the 6"x6" tiles was a PAIN! Not necessarily to install or grout but to try to get the caulk gun in the crevice between them and the top of the shower surround was horrible so in person it doesnt look AS good as in person.

Thanks Scott but a man's throne should ALWAYS be the MOST important project in the house, besides I do ALL my best thinking/planning in there

HOLY CRAP I know paranormal activity 2 comes out tonight but I believe I just saw a ghost!!! Dennis is that you?????????????????

Where in the world have you been? I thought we lost you to the black hole. I wrote you off as one of the ones that got so far on their project then vanished off this site never to be heard from again. Welcome back my friend and how are things? Any more work/progress or anything that closely (or not) resembles something of the sort???

Oh to answer your question this is the second time I have worked with them. I used them on the back counter behind my bar but for some reason (I just noticed this) I never posted any pics of the back counter area. They are fairly simple to work with and just as easy as anything else to grout. The only tricky part (and it isnt bad at all) is making sure that each any every little square is level and spaced evenly. They come on those mesh backed things but they move around like crazy. I used spacers on all sides of them then tapped them all down. Its very tedious but in my opinion if one or two here or there arent "exactly" level with the one next to them then it just gives the whole job "character" so long as its not a frequently used counter top because that could really make setting a drink down tricky. All in all they are like any other tile to work with and I really like the look of them because I think they add a nice transition and break up what otherwise would be a rather boring tile job.

Welcome back!!

Haha very good idea. Actually nobody has used it with the exception of my wife (once I think) and myself. Sure glad I spent all that cash to renovate it

Welcome back!!

LOL... I stop in every so often in the summer but just don't post, We purchased a summer cabin on the lake this year so that has taken up my entire summer...no complaints just saying...but now that it is ending and the cabin was winterized this past weekend it is back to work on the basement. I really haven't done anything since last March so nothing to update but if you want to learn about boats, docks and seawalls let me know...lol.
I still have the mosaics I have for the backsplash so was just curious how eeasy they were to install since I need to get that done.

You built a boat, a dock, and a seawall and didn't tell us about it?

No no no...I bought a used boat (first ever boat purchase...what a hassle), bought a dock (had it installed) and had a company put up a seawall. LOL

Between the educating, looking, deciding and install it took up my summer so I was not able to do any bar or theater related stuff.

Ha! Very funny. Ya know the two happiest days of a boat owners life is the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it. I have had some experience with watercraft (never officially owned one per se) and had an owner of a several hundred thousand dollar house boat tell me that the amount of money you spend on your boat is directly proportional to the hole in the water it makes, and you continually throw money into the hole never to be seen again.

I hear it is the same with airplanes, race cars, and supermodels.

Oh so true. I had the "great" idea of purchasing a boat about 3 years ago and from day 1 it was nothing but an expense up until (and including) the day I sold it. Now to be honest I REALLY have missed not having it but I truly believe that is because my wallet has recovered and the painful memory of the expenses has faded ever so slightly.

On a side note I have some progress (maybe even with pics) to report. I have begun (ever be it slowly) to frame the other side of the basement in preparation for version 2. I am debating on starting a new thread (which I DONT want to do) or continuing on from here. I am leaning on starting from here because in all honesty its still kind of the same project......lol. Anyway like I said framing is partially done and I am trying to dig deep to regain focus on the task at hand which is getting version 2 done before my son goes off to college........hes in 8th grade.........laugh now but it MAY take me that long.

You do realize that if you start another thread, we will expect you to keep BOTH of them updated, right?

That is a good point and I will have to take that into consideration when deciding on continuing on from here or starting fresh.

I do have a "planning" question for anyone watching still. When planning on wiring runs prior to drywall/insulation install I am trying to plan and make sure I dont forget anything on vers 2 that I may have on vers 1. So far I have planned on (of course) all speaker runs including multiple rg6 runs for future subwoofer placement, hdmi from rack to pj, hdmi from pj to seats (laptop hookup) not sure what I will need for sound for the laptop since the hdmi will be run to the pj, Next up cat5 cable.......I wont need any for my xbox as its wireless but I will run one from my router for my blu-ray player and one (maybe) for my directv box. Do I need one from pj to rack for any reason??? Basically a run down from any and everyone on what to run to help prevent issues later. I am running pvc from pj to rack BUT it wont be a straight run so it will still be tricky to run later but not impossible therefore I want to run now as much as I can. Thanks in advance

Well I guess based on all the responses (or lack thereof) I will need to start a new thread for the other half of the basement as it appears no one is watching this one anymore......of course that is me assuming anyone will watch the new thread.......LOL

I will follow, lead, or get out of the way no matter where you decide to detail your new construction endeavor. BTW did you not many moons ago ask the same question about a new thread?

It is your build thread, but there really needs to be something in the title about having lost your mind or being crazy/insane.

So the "IuSteve's I've lost my mind, certified insane, have decided to build another one" build thread as a combination of just about everything works well.

or

Why re-do when you can build new v2.0 build thread.

or

If you can't get it right the first time build it again build thread.

I think we determined that you SHOULD indeed start a new thread just to make it easier for you and us to keep it all straight. So what are you waiting for? Get ta Crack a lackin' on this new build thread already.

My suggestion is to draw a picture. Label where all the speakers, projector, AV equipment, lights, etc. will go and use that to determine what needs to be run where. If you post it up you'll be able to get better feedback about what is missing.

Even though I don't have a PJ, I'll try to contribute as much as I can. First of all, I would suggest going with with Cat5e or Cat6 for future considerations. As far as the Xbox, since you are already planning to run ethernet to your equipment rack, you might as well run some extra. Wired is always better than wireless, even though you already bought the wireless adapter for the xbox. I ran 4 ethernet cables to my equipment rack (blu-ray, xbox, eventual HTPC, and who knows what for the 4th one). I also ran two behind my wall mounted TV. The next TV will probably have ethernet in, plus you never know what gets mounted behind the TV in the future.

I also have multiple RG6 coax cables running to each location (some for antenna, some for cable), even though I'll only use a couple right now.

Check out post #20 in my thread for a complete rundown of my connections, along with pics. I also did a lot of legacy connections. I hope this helps.

Thanks for your input here. I have the new xbox 360 slim that is wifi capable so hard wiring is probably not going to happen unless I find that once its in the basement away from my router (upstairs) it gets a weak signal then we will have an issue. I will probably just run 3 cat5's from the router to the rack, 1 from the pj to rack and that should be plenty dont you think? Am I correct the reason for having cat5 ran to bd players, and such is mainly for updates? If so I can just manually switch at the back of the rack if thats the case.

Actually, as more and more devices become internet connected, it's not just for updates anymore. Many new blu-ray players have netflix & pandora built in, so if you are using those features, they need to have ethernet 24/7. Worst case, if you run out, you can just put a small 5-port gigabit switch in your equipment rack and that will give you a few more connections. This is essentially what I did, but I did it on the other side of the wall from my equipment so I wouldn't have to stuff a switch into my equipment stand.

Totally agree. I gave in and ran a wire down to the theater a couple of weeks ago. I added a 5 port switch and wireless extender. They are both being used and the switch was full the first night with lan feed, HD-DVD, BluRay, wireless extender and XBOX. Still need to connect the Wii, so I will either need to go back to wireless on the XBOX or go to an 8 port switch. The XBOX has the best Netflix connection, which is why I currently have it hard wired.

Thanks for the input but correct me if I am wrong, the new xbox slim (built in wifi) can stream netflix wirelessly?

Yes it can, but I felt I was getting a little better image with the wired connection. Could have been my imagination, but I had the port available. Yes, the wireless worked well.

Awesome thanks. I will run a couple cat5's to the rack, one for the xbox just in case and a 2nd for whatever else and then plan on a port if need be.

I just joined the Netflix family and have been enjoying the streaming though the Wii wirelessly. I'm curious though since the Xbox can or has the ability to do Hidef what the quality of the streaming is . The Wii is SD and the streaming through the Wii is watchable, but nothing stellar. We are planning on getting a PS3 for the kids Christmas so I'm curious to see if it is any better or if it is just a function of the steaming and compression of the video.
