Maybe they're waiting for their stimulus check.

Old news! Already being discussed in the Mits Laservue Owners and "Is-it-Overpriced?" threads.

No really it is quite important news.

Why?

Because it might be the first signal that Mitsubishi is exiting the rear projection buisness.

The laser owners thread will not focus on that eventuality because most of those people are concerned with how their set looks and functions.

The Is it overpriced thread may deal with cost but its main focus won't be the survival of rear projection itself.

What do we know? No more Samsung DLP. No specifics on Misubishi rear projection sets possibly coming out this year--will Mitsubishi FOR SURE produce anymore bulb based sets this year?

No 73-inch LASER sets.

65-inch Laser set production halted.

Now given that Vizio has left the plasma market--the ALMIGHTY Kuro won't be produced anymore and now Laser production halted--

Maybe people should face the REAL QUESTION that so many here at this forum want to avoid--

Just like Kuro lovers wished to AVOID in the death of Pioneer

And SXRD lovers wished to avoid when Sony left the rear projection buisness:

Is the DEATH OF REAR PROJECTION now facing us?

Is it Laservue or Lemonvue?

Not just rear projection, but everything other than LCD or front projection, it looks like. Looks like the niche we'll be left with is front projection for performance and LCD for the masses?

Kuro was the best of plasma and for many reasons I've never been keen on plasma for it's weaknesses. The inferior performance of LCD was never enough to offset my ambivalence about the flat panel form factor. I love RPTV and still think a properly functioning SXRD is without peer for thousands of dollars less. SED is nothing more than vaporware.

Hard to believe there's NO company who can maintain production in small enough volumes to make it worth their while to fill in the gap left by all the big boys leaving RPTV. I'll cross my fingers and hope for a 73" LaserVue while I still dream of the 70XBR5 SXRD.
